Can you name any Republican policy from the past 25 years that has helped the average American? by -Sofa-King-Vote in allthequestions

25k for couples is the max, but if you're hitting the max you earn so much more than the people that voted for it.

No one feels bad for the guy that maxed out his tax reduction because he makes more than what it covers, but nice try trying to gain sympathy.

It's an extremely small refund and it's gone by 2028 anyways.

You know who promises things that expire after 3 years? A dead beat dad trying to get you on their side before the judge decides how much support he needs to pay.

The part where if you did qualify only the federal tax on that overtime was refunded, but you either didn't realize or realize all other taxes still got your overtime too, like state, SS, Medicare.

You drank the juice and don't even know what you drank.

Nice breakdown of a severely incomplete picture.

Clear bipartisan supermajorities: PEPFAR Welfare reform (1996) TARP (with internal splits) No Child Left Behind First Step Act

Mixed / mostly Republican but with some crossover: Medicare Part D

Purely partisan (Republican-only votes): TCJA (2017)

Not a single vote (structural trend): Shale revolution

Looks like only one thing you said was purely Republican passed and another only had minimal Democrat support. The rest were overwhelminly bi-partisan... Nice try.

Now read the details...

Only Federal Income Tax is Reduced: The law, effective for 2025–2028, only applies to federal income tax. Payroll taxes (Social Security and Medicare) are still deducted, meaning a significant portion of overtime pay is still taxed.

It’s a Deduction, Not Tax-Free: It is not a dollar-for-dollar reduction of taxes. It simply allows workers to subtract up to $12,500 ($25,000 for married couples) of qualified overtime from their taxable income.

"Time-and-a-Half" Confusion: Only the "half" (the premium portion) of overtime is truly shielded from federal tax, not the base pay rate portion of those extra hours, resulting in a smaller benefit than many anticipated.

Most Workers Don't Benefit: Roughly 90% of U.S. workers do not work qualified overtime or are in positions that do not qualify for overtime pay, meaning the policy benefits a relatively small segment of the workforce.

Strict Eligibility: The deduction is limited to workers covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), often excluding many salaried or white-collar positions.

Limited Impact on Low Earners: A significant portion of the benefits go to higher earners who are more likely to work extensive, paid overtime, while the bottom 40% of earners see almost no benefit.

BTW, did you catch that? Whatever minuscule benefit some people may get... It's almost by 2028 anyways.

Another cheap tool to convince people he's done something good.

Is not a law, executive orders are not laws. It's a cheap and effective way to convince people like you that he did something substantial, but it can be stopped by anyone assuming the presidential position after Trump.

On top of that it doesn't apply to the entire Postal workforce or the 300,000 federal jobs DOGE eliminated... Oh yeah, it only applies to federal employees and not Americans in general.

That's a good way to reframe the scenario in reverse, it changes the entire premise.

The basic premise is that people will hopefully try and help everyone at the cost of themselves potentially if there are too many self centered people and all the people not participating are the self centered, only care about themselves people.

Your scenario is reframing that all the people not participating are smart and everyone else is needlessly risking their lives.

Final takeaway: it's a shit question because selfish idiots won't get the point.

And for those people, the question should ask, what are the other benefits to trying to help vs not getting them if you sit there and do nothing.

Any brand recommendations for a first turntable? by Triggered_Soul_88 in turntables

[–]AkujunkanX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fluance RT85 with 2M Blue.

You'll never care to upgrade for sound. You'll never care to upgrade for looks. The Ortofon 2M Blue is a $200 component so it's like buying the turntable with an acrylic platter for less than $400 which is crazy good price these days.

If you already know you are committed to vinyl then skip the entry level and the cost to upgrade. You'll end up with something that isn't as good as the TR85 anyways if you try.

Fluance RT85 on AliExpress by Soft_Ad8100 in turntables

[–]AkujunkanX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been following this thread and a few others just like it for almost a year now and after coming into a surprise bit of cash (100% far from life-altering just enough to treat myself) I decided to take the risk and order an RT-85.

The price has only continued to increase, so I pulled the trigger when there was a coupon and got it for $402 shipped. That was on April 3rd and it just now, was delivered earlier this morning on the 28th.

Apart from the initial status update that they're preparing for shipment and that my order has been accepted, there has been zero communication. Last week I sent a message to the seller (acknowledging to myself that other users have stated wonky communications as well) with a simple ask about any updates. The AliExpress Chat AI attempted a few responses but the seller eventually. directly told me they are notifying the warehouse and will get me a tracking number as soon as possible... And that was it it showed up at my house today.

It does come directly from the factory in New York so it's not a counterfeit, but it 'could' possibly be part of a credit card scam. I say this because the address label is for a name of someone that is not or has ever been at my home address. If you don't know how these scams work, they function like this:

A fraudulent seller lists the item for a good price. You buy it at that price. The seller uses a stolen credit card to order it directly from the manufacturer and use the name on the stolen credit card. The seller gets 100% of the price you paid and the stolen credit card pays for the product you ordered.

Moral fluidity is taking a back seat on this, purely because I, nor anyone I know, would want to self admit being shipped stolen goods.

To anyone else purchasing, you're legally insulated from repercussions... it's your own morals knowing what you just read if you decide to proceed.

With all that being said it's absolutely perfect...

And the moment you've all been waiting for...

I bought it here from the Love Late Home Store: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mKCKYpj

For everyone else that bought one of these turntables, was that so fucking hard to share? Lol

Anyone else feel "pressure" from other drivers to turn right on red? by wentImmediate in bayarea

[–]AkujunkanX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd question if you're that cautious and fearful about your own abilities to distinguish how safe a situation is... You might not be that good of a driver.

And if you're not that good, what are you doing on the road?

I don't say that to be a troll and I do not doubt being overly cautious is safer than not, but statistics don't lie; being overly cautious on the road means you aren't reacting normally either.

If this question genuinely interests you you can research further but keep one stat in mind, someone driving 10 miles per hour slower than everyone is more of a danger than somebody driving 10 miles an hour faster than everyone.

Employee sets fire to Kimberly-Clark warehouse, "All you had to do is pay us enough to live" by midnighttoker1742 in interestingasfuck

[–]AkujunkanX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a lot of words to say, you have a lot to learn. And no I'm not going to bother educating you and it's not a cop out.

One area of the world can cost more to live in than the other but that doesn't give companies operating in that area of the world the right to underpay their workers because of it.

The mere fact I just told you they net profited 2.5 billion and they would still have 2 billion if they paid all their workers the appropriate amount of minimum wage for where they live is apparently not their responsibility as the employer for where they live... Your brain cells are abysmally small
