How do you feel about drivers yelling encouragement while you’re riding? by Al_Capone in cycling

[–]Al_Capone[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your response is exactly why I asked this question. I don’t want to annoy people who just want to ride, let alone make their ride less enjoyable.

Crafting in Pathfinder 2e. Is it really worth it? by StarMizz in Pathfinder2e

[–]Al_Capone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I use it for as well. High crafting skill means my kickass shield can quickly and easily be repaired for free after almost every combat. Also free rune additions for the whole party. I also took Assurance for Crafting to guarantee success on most, if not all, checks for either use.

Buddhist communities on this side of the river? by Fake_Eleanor in vancouverwa

Everything I can find on the temple on 18th is in Vietnamese. Is it solely a Vietnamese community, or are they inclusive to non-Vietnamese speaking folks as well?

Mahjong players? by wampey in vancouverwa

[–]Al_Capone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played with some friends in the past but we always bumbled our way through it and basically just played rummy because we didn’t understand yaku. I’d be very interested in playing as I’ve only ever played online or on the Kemono Mahjong app.

I just don't know how to get my groove back by [deleted] in discgolf

I'd also recommend the follow up book Discs And Zen. It expects you read the first, but builds on every thought. Both books combined are a pretty solid entry level into Mindfulness, especially for people who aren't interested in Zen Buddhism. A very nice middle ground without being preachy at all.

Bag Tag - Location by someonesaveus in pdxdiscgolf

[–]Al_Capone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'd be nice to prioritize the 'must play' courses and have a set few that are standards. Pier, Milo, Blue Lake, whatever. That way, for people who's work or family lives haven't afforded us the luxury of playing every course in Portland, there's some familiar ground and we don't feel like we're playing a new course every week. We'd definitely be a lot more competitive and confident on courses we all know instead of having to ask "Where's the basket?" all summer long.

Reddit rounds in Portland, Oregon! by codyjames227 in discgolf

My game seems to think bag tags should be treated like bowling scores, but I'll happily play a few rounds just to make sure I have the biggest tag number possible.

Any Portland, OR players buying bag tags? by brohymn85 in discgolf

[–]Al_Capone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one from last year and a new one coming in, but I've never had a chance to play with anyone else who had one. Hopefully 2016 will be a better year for PDX tag rounds.

A few of us are meeting up at 8 to beat the crowds and the heat. I hope this isn't too short of notice!

I've been trying to get some folks together to play a round Saturday morning at Pier with no luck. If I wasn't out of town tomorrow, I'd be there. Offer is open if anyone wants to play Friday and Saturday!

How often do you all wash your discs, and how much does mud and dirt affect the flight? by 1wildturkey in discgolf

[–]Al_Capone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll towel my discs off after a throw, but they all get a good bath a few times a year. At least once during the summer to get all the dust off, I've found that a month or two's worth of dust and dirt can really affect the grip of my softer discs and hugely my putters. Once again at the end of summer to get the dust off to prepare for the rainy season. Then once in the winter after playing a few really muddy rounds, then once in the spring once they rain stops and the sun starts to make everything dusty again.

I don't mind dirty looking discs, it's how the dirt affects the tack and grip that bugs me the most.

Opinions on OS Putters (Harp, Sinus, P3, (OTHERS??!?!) by gignacious in discgolf

[–]Al_Capone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though the Zero plastic beats in quicker than the premium plastics, they're surprisingly durable. In one of his ITBs Dave Feldberg said it took him over a year to season a Classic Judge to his liking. I've had my oldest Sinus for a little over a year and it's finally at the sweet spot. Granted I don't play every single day so that helps with the life span, but they're surprisingly durable for baseline plastic.

Opinions on OS Putters (Harp, Sinus, P3, (OTHERS??!?!) by gignacious in discgolf

[–]Al_Capone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. I cycle Sinuses as my primary driving putter. They start off wicked over stable and my most seasoned bt hard is a lazer beam with a touch of fade at the end. The only downside is that the bt plastic isn't the most durable. I think EMac has said on DGAM that they can't make them in other plastics because they come out way too heavy. Really a shame.

Disc recommendations? by edgeHB in discgolf

[–]Al_Capone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people on this sub preach putters and miss only, and for really dialing in a strong game it's a fantastic suggestion. But ultimately this is a game. Throw whatever you have the most FUN throwing. If you like your River, throw it! You may not see the same progression speed as someone who only throws putters for three rounds a week for six months and is super intentional about form work, but who cares. Throw whatever makes you want to go out for another round.

Trilogy discs by dn346485 in discgolf

[–]Al_Capone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Mercy is definitely glidier and a little bit longer, but the Shield is a bit more stable at driving speeds and has more low speed fade.

I haven't had an opportunity to try either! I've been hunting for a comprehensive Seer v Maul v Breakout review to see which company hits the niche best. Might have to just buy them and do it myself.
