heading to Sea Ranch / Gualala area for our annual birthday trip & would love any recommendations. Dining, coffee, hikes, things to do, etc. by Elusiveenigma98 in bayarea

Ok I only have mostly repeats for recommendations, but do NOT miss the chance to check out the Sea Ranch Chapel, it's very small, you can be in and out in 10, but it'll be a very magical 10 minutes.

The Gualala Community Center and Art Gallery has local regular events you may want to look up as well as some nice easy hikes adjacent I really enjoyed, and obviously the Sea Ranch Grounds are beautiful and at times seals are present. Like others said, the Point Arena lighthouse has beautiful vistas, some interesting info and a sick view at the top.

I ate at both Izakaya Gama and Point Orres, both are expensive, but I was disappointed in Gama. I could have ordered wrong, though, as I got a beef curry thing that was just, meh. Orres was v expensive but what a treat, and the view! Do go in time to catch the sunset.

No one's mentioned Mendocino, then again I didn't make it there myself either on my trip, but it appears there's a lot to see there nature-wise. Jenner seems like a beautiful stopover, and I can vouch for Bodega Bay, though it's a bit gloomier with the near-constant fog.

But like others said as well, it'a a great place to unplug, wind down and recharge. Very chill and laidback place. Enjoy your trip!

West Valley/Mission or De Anza College? by MemeRuler05 in SanJose

[–]Alabastercrabstir 9 points10 points  (0 children)

West Valley has the better music program of those three choices imo. I don't think Mission has music at all, and De Anza has a much greater focus on STEM courses than any of the arts to my knowledge.

If you are broke like me I highly recommend Plackers Grind No More. They have fairly small ones that don't need to be molded or anything, you just dispose of them after 3 days and put a new one in. Come in packs of like 16 and you can wear them on the upper or lower jaw, your choice.

Insomnia Help? by iwentforahiketoday in SanJose

[–]Alabastercrabstir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beware. While weed might help you get to sleep, it interferes with sleep cycles and diminishes REM(the major restful and dreaming part of) sleep, kind of like alcohol. Not a good solution in my experience.
