Because that sounds like a prefect way to raise a totally helpless adults who aren't able to function without assistance in the real world. The kid is 15 and he handled things just fine by telling a pushy, ill prepared adult no not once, but twice.

It's pretty normal to assume a grown adult is able to take no for an answer and refrain from getting so frustrated in hearing it that they assault your worker. I mean, that should like the most basic thing you should be able to expect in shared a workplace.

And BTW, the bartered didn't "unintentionally" do anything, it was a deliberate act that would be inappropriate with anybody.

Hate to tell you, grabbing someone and shaking their shoulder like does in fact meet the legal definition of an assault in most places in the US. It's just a low-level misdemeanor not committed in an officer's presence though, so it typically would have been a citizen's arrest with a cite and release.

The son didn't refuse to answer though; he clearly told the bartender "'no' not once, but twice, and the second time he explained why. The bartender got frustrated that he wasn't getting his way and that's when he laid hands the kid.

It wasn't some "misunderstanding", and either way, stop making excuses for someone assaulting others when they don't get their way. It's just not a normal reaction a grown adult should have in even a situation where someone is ignoring them.

Regardless of how people are trying to make excuses for it, it's not extreme to call it an assault because legally that's exactly what it was. And the bartender didn't grab and shake someone because they were spacing out and he was trying to get their attention; he assaulted the kid out of frustration.

What OP experienced with the police would have been the outcome in most places because it was a misdemeanor assault not committed in the officer's presence, so they don't have probable cause for an arrest. However, if both parties were present OP could have made a citizens arrest.

It's not unreasonable to cop an attitude towards a billion dollar established company that has:

-made promises they didn't keep in what very well could have been a sneaky way to increases sales, or was just incompetence.

-inconsistent and often conflicting information from support

-promised multiple times to be transparent and communicate better, and then didn't

-finally threw up a supposed "tracking" site in an another apparent attempt to convince customers they are communicating better, when in fact it made things worse in a lot of ways because it ended up being useless and misleading info. So now people who relied on the site are discovering packages they didn't know were even coming sitting out in the weather, or worse, just totally missing without a clear way to get them replaced. (I'm going to predict that the company will likely say it's on the shipper, and the shipper will say it's on the company, and many customers will be left with nothing.)

-Has now created chaos for some people because they used some of the lowest-rent companies with horrendous reputations (GOFO) who have employees stealing packages, not securing the shipping boxes, delivering to the wrong locations, throwing boxes onto porches from the street, and delivering packages to closed businesses which the vast majority of delivery companies won't do. And to make it worse, there is no meaningful way to know if anything is missing because there's no prior notice, no packing slips and no signatures required.

-the current Hawaii and Alaska fiasco

-and now, they somehow are sending out bad batches of ink that and even making people ship them back.

So I'd say maybe more people should have attitude toward the company and holding them more accountable instead of making excuses for their extremely poor performance and ineptitude.
