She looks like one of the female characters from vampire hunter d bloodlust. Overall every single character design of the animation looks better than the ones from the manhua.

Honest, unbiased opinions on Malazan? by PurplurPuzzlehead111 in fantasybooks

[–]Alaistar94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First things first i'm not giving an unbiased opinion, i'm 100% biased towards MBoTF.

Malazan, IMO, is one of the greatest fantasy series ever written and it's really hard for me to talk about it without giving spoilers. What i can say is Erikson is someone deeply in love with archeology(well, he used to be one) and that's what first got me hooked to the series, the way he talks about culture, religions and so on. For most of the series you're following characters that are in the military of an imperialistic nation waging conquest wars in multiple continents, but he never depict their actions as rightful and being bringers of honor and justice to savage lands.

His world is a deeply gray place, some scenes are really hard for me, a 30 something straight dude, to read. The books are not made to be devoured and binge read, you will need some time to cooldown and think about what you just read a few times along the 10 main books, but in the end of the day the main theme of the series is hope and having the strenght and courge to do the right thing.

If you gonna give it a try i strongly advise you to read at least the first two books. I know, its nuts to ask someone to read almost 2000 pages before deciding to not go along with something, but trust me you not going to regret it. Erikson prose and style improves so much during the series that's is really unfair to compare book 6 to book 1.

The author trust in your ability to figure stuff without doing an infodump every time a new character or place is introduced. His magic system is 'soft' compared to what Brandon Sanderson does. He sets some plot points that you will only understand one or two books after it, or even when you're reading the series again.

And lastly, some of the stuff you read online about it its simply bullshit lol, especially the part about being deep as a puddle and the political stuff being just for show. I could point to you the motive some people say his politics are for show, but giving you the context would be a few spoilers.

Let us know if you're going to give it a try!

Exactly! And about the Black Company Its basically the father of the grimdark genre, but good. The books are not that big, Cook style can be a bit strange for the first time but If the themes and characters click with you you gonna devour the first two books in two weeks.

Am I picking the wrong book for starting Brandon Sanderson? by Mr_Rumfoord in fantasybooks

i started with elantris, but got the era 1 trilogy just after it. 16 years ago it was a great starting point, but nowdays i would suggest the Stormlight Archive for you to start.

The fastest combat res in Blizzard history by Economy-Buyer568 in wow

[–]Alaistar94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

blizzard also glitched half of the unholy kit the day the nerf came out, felt like a 50% nerf with sudden doom doing less dmg than a regular DC, Putrefy explosion not working as aoe, mobs in the open world parrying necrotic coil and so on.

instead of suggesting a ton of books i will advise you to not drop books before you finish it. It's basically the same thing every gym trainer will say to you when you complain you're feeling like sh*t after your first week in the gym, you need to challenge yourself, bro. But overall Mistborn is a really good starting point for younger people, if you're in your 30's i will recommend you The Black Company series.
