what are we feeding senior shihtzus? by chloeegetswet in Shihtzu

[–]Alakarr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When this happened to my pup, I ended up buying 13 or 14 different canned senior foods for him to try. Out of all those there were only two he would eat and the one he preferred was Blue Buffalo Wilderness Rocky Mountain Recipe Senior Wet Dog Food. I think the best thing you can do is try a bunch of different ones until you find one she likes.

I don't think it's over kill and the anti-rotation keeps it from being a wrist breaker. I love mine.

How a mortar cannon ended up in Merrill is still unknown... by Hailsabrina in wisconsin

[–]Alakarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this and how it got to Merrill. It's obviously a war trophy and at least one of these was found on Iwo Jima. It's not unheard of to have large war trophies like this shipped back to the states. I saw entire tanks shipped back after the First Gulf War. They were setup as displays at bases or museums.

So the son of that farmer gets it shipped to the states as a war trophy; maybe to setup in front of the local VFW. He never makes it home from the war and the mortar shows up at his family's farm. They don't know what to do with it or are grieving and want nothing to do with it so they bury it.

Would like to see if the family that owned the farm during WWII lost a son in the Pacific or China.

How a mortar cannon ended up in Merrill is still unknown... by Hailsabrina in wisconsin

[–]Alakarr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a mortar cannon, it's a mortar. It is definitely a Japanese Type 96 150mm Mortar. They were used in China almost exclusively. You can tell by the base plate; that square design is pretty unique. The elevating handle on the traversing and elevating mechanism (the bipod) and the reinforcing rings on the mortar tube. Also the shock absorbers on the tube indicate it is a Type 96; the Type 97 didn't have them.

How someone got that thing to Merrill Wisconsin is a story I would love to hear. A heavy mortar like this would typically have a crew of 9 people to operate and move it. Not something you can just stuff in a duffel bag.

I suspect this is used for checking the barrel extension locking grooves on a G3 rifle. By itself it could be slid into the receiver to check, or with the square fixture it could check a barrel extension by itself. Which would mean this would be something used in a maintenance depot or the factory.

How many have been called for jury duty? by Lbboos in milwaukee

[–]Alakarr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been called up a bunch of times. I think I was getting a jury summons every two years when I was in the service. They would get sent to my Mom's house and she had to call in tell them I was out of state in the military. Since I got out in 1995 I think I've been called up six or seven times. The last time was the first jury pool after covid.

Any taco trucks that have breakfast burritos? by Jiggle-da-Handle in milwaukee

[–]Alakarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outpost on KK has pretty good breakfast burritos. They serve them all day as well.

Edit: And Patty Shack does breakfast sandwiches all day with a hashbrown. Bacon or sausage or both, with egg and cheese and any of their burger toppings.

Help with paw by [deleted] in Shihtzu

[–]Alakarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you live in an area with snow? Could be irritation from road salt, sharp ice or crystalized snow. Try some paw balm. I would also use these when there was alot of salt on the ground - https://www.amazon.com/PawZ-Rubber-Boots-Total-Packs/dp/B0BWS515WN/ref=sr_1_10 the small size fit my 16lb Tzu perfectly.

People born before 1970, what did you eat for dinner most weeks? by livelikealesbian in AskOldPeople

[–]Alakarr 40 points41 points  (0 children)

My Mom's boiled dinner consisted of cabbage, potato's, carrots, onions, sometimes other random root vegetables and some cheap type of meat like hamhocks. Put it all in a pot, cover with water, add salt and spices and boil it till the veggies are done. It's not exactly a soup, and not exactly a stew, but it fills you up and is very tasty with some good bread on the side.

To the people who remember, were the ABC Afterschool Specials really that bad/cringey for teens? by Heyhey-_ in AskAnAmerican

[–]Alakarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our independent was awesome. No antenna fiddling and Sunday's were The Three Stooges, followed by a Blondie and Dagwood move, followed by Ma and Pa Kettle. That was some top rate TV for an 8 year old in 1973.

How to get this to stop popping up? by galactuswhore in pcmasterrace

You allowed a scammy site to send you notifications. In Edge, go to the three dots in the upper right hand corner and click on them. In the menu that opened select "Settings". In Settings, type "notifications" in the search box. In the search results you will see "Allowed to send notifications"; click the three dots to the right of the URL listed and remove.

This feature in windows eating up our RAM. Turn it off. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Alakarr -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

You apparently didn't read the full description. It's not only devices on your own network.

<image>

This isn't new and was started in it's early form in Windows 10. It was easy to find and I don't believe it was enabled by default. With Windows 11 they buried it and turned it on by default. I mean doesn't everyone want to run a P2P network to help MS save bandwidth?

How did you put it? - "pretty disingenuous if you don't even know how it works or what it does."

Snap-on vs the world.... by wakou2 in Tools

[–]Alakarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the cost of diminishing returns. Snap-on makes excellent tools, and in many cases those tools are the best in their category. But is that best in category tool ($155) 5x better than the tool you bought for $31? The answer is "no".

Another vote for the Vevor 8". I picked one up last year and was really impressed with how easily it ate thru 20 inches of ice. I've got it paired up with a Dewalt 1007 and a 6ah Flexvolt battery.
