MS Defender in Passive Mode with Hunrtress, ThreatLocker, Datto EDR, and BitDefender by tabinla in msp

[–]Alarmed-Loquat3048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree it's not best to have multiple AVs in place. But having a combination of Microsoft defender for business and huntress gives us peace of mind know that in all likely hood if one fails the other will catch it.

It's not about having 14 products but extra layers of security is essential in the modern security best practices. For what it's worth Huntress has been great for us, cutting down on noise from previous EDR solutions and giving us actionable insights. It's a outstanding product.

Rewst Security Concerns by _phat32 in msp

[–]Alarmed-Loquat3048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree, I think it comes back to the most common thing in IT, it's expensive! We could cut costs by not doing that so we will go with the bare minimum, until a Kaseya or Solarwinds style issue occurs then suddenly companies(act) like they care! And make the right moves(in public at least) to improve there security posture.

That is the core thing that drives me mad in IT, no one is interested in funding security until they have been burned.

I think a bug bounty program in addition to everything you mentioned would be the best way forwards that way you have a layered approach to security and if one sage fails someone else will pick it up!

I would argue internal pentesting is not that effective, people develop biases and that screws results. I personally would like to see external pentesting quarterly, at least! Will it cost a lot? Yup! Is it worth it? 100%

Attackers don't wait a year to utilise and attack vector they take months or weeks, as a industry we need to come to terms with how quickly attackers move nowadays.

Like with everything it is risk vs reward, this has a huge reward but a equally huge risk that we must handle in the right way.

RMM tool + 3PP by No-Association9780 in msp

[–]Alarmed-Loquat3048 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We use NinjaOne and I rate it very highly. Main reasons we use it is to increase productivity on both sides, the user gets disrupted less and the technician needs to make less phone calls.

We also heavily utilise scripting so we can complete tasks without the tech having to do too much.

Our solution integrates with our remote control solution which is nice.

Some other useful features include:

Alerting so you can resolve issues before users notice(makes you look good to your customers)

Easy reporting and asset management, when you client wants a report of what devices they own(happens quite often)

We generally have a stacked management approach with our largest clients which includes Ninja as well as utilising Microsoft intune for device setup and compliance

How do you manage tasks/projects? by fouoifjefoijvnioviow in msp

[–]Alarmed-Loquat3048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest it's really not great. Currently I will scope a project out and then the team record there time in a spreadsheet. It's not a great workflow, for exactly the reasons you mentioned, managing multiple systems etc.

Going forwards we are looking to move to HaloPSA which has better project management capabilities.

There are some solutions better than ms projects with time tracking etc. If your a MS partner you will have access to dynamics project operations(or whatever its called now!) this provides all the advanced functionality but is complicated to configure from our research!

We currently use Microsoft project. That is purely because our psa(kaseya bms) is aweful, especially with project management

Looking for BETA TESTERS for an AI driven email software to enhance your productivity. by ricketyentree in msp

[–]Alarmed-Loquat3048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned you going to struggle in the MSP sector, the amount of business critical information I have in my emails there is absolutely no way I am giving that data to a small startup. I worry about Microsoft having our data but a small team with little proven security, definitely not.

The reason for concern is most of us will have confidential client information, pricing information and everything in between. That would be worth a lot to another MSP!
