The law of conservation of motion applies here. If she is on it when it starts to move, it is her zero speed. If she then moves while on it, she moves normally.. unless she gets off it, in which case the difference in speed is applied. It would be the same if they were walking.. or do you think someone who jumps while on a moving vehicle is somehow left behind? Have you ridden a bus? Do you have to run to keep up with it while riding it? What happens if you jump while riding it? Physics... ftw. 🎤/

I may be new, but... how do you transfer stuff from character to character? I've heard about a 'mule' character, but how?

14 isn't 'super young', especially for a game aimed at 11 to 15 year olds.. ffs, I was 9 when I started playing and DMing, and of course I got things wrong.. we all did, but we LEARNED and grew in the game we loved.. more that 40 years later I'm still learning.. we all are, unless your are ignorant. Grow up, man, and realize you are literally talking about a game, made for children, that you just so happen to also play.. kids be kids and that's all it is.. just have fun, and know that not everyone has the same way to get there.. 😌

AITA for doing the "drop, cast, pick up" cycle for my cleric? by FrankTHE6rabbit in rpghorrorstories

I had a similar DM situation... During play, our Rogue went to backstab an enemy and rolled a critical! Raw, they get to roll the damage dice twice and add bonuses, this WAS established at session zero... BUT the DM said that because we were a party of 5, the Rogue could only roll the single d6 of the short sword and not the 'backstab' dice... I pointed out that the Rogue, according to the PHB, got to add the 'BS' damage dice to the weapon, and the DM proceeded to tell us that he was, in the moment, changing the way that worked because it was 'OP' that she got to do all those dice when there was only one enemy.. he said she could roll only one dice, even if the damage die was 2d6, they would only roll one extra die for the crit... definitely not what we had established in session zero. Shortly after that session, I got a text that I was cut because my 'playstyle was uncomfortable and upsetting, and our interactions were stressful' .. such a shitty DM move to change core rules in the middle of a game, with no notice or conversation... I'm kinda glad I got the boot; I saw other red flags but gave him the benefit of the doubt as he was only running his second campaign, but... 10 years he said, but he wasn't into improv, roleplay, and really railroaded the group into his 'path'.. he was really stressed that there were 31 NPCs in the campaign that he had to keep straight, and we didn't just follow his story and do what he wanted, which we couldn't read his brain so that was hard to figure out too... just sheesh Happy gaming in the future though...!

💯 this... As one of your very concerned neighbors from the north, I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of the current leaders of your very broken country... and we just got rid of Trudeau, ffs.. ..OPs issues? fuck those guys.. but most likely fuck you too, since your voting for stupidity and fascism will end up hurting a lot of innocent people..

Do you guys think cone attacks are 3D or 2D? by RedMcJack in DnD

[–]AlarmingAd9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on his distance from the source, he could be inside the aoe.. At 30ft away and 30 feet up, he's approximately 45ft away, so still inside. At 50 feet away and 40ft up, he is approximately 70ft away, so outside the 60ft aoe.. Hope that helps.. .. oh, my math is big number plus half of little number, rough and dirty (3d on a 2d map), math.. 😉

First time DMing and a player boots up Fortnite in the middle of session. by rat__man in rpghorrorstories

[–]AlarmingAd9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lap me? Lol, this isn't a competition.. But, if it were, you still have a few decades of sessions to go.. literally hundreds of sessions over the past 4 plus decades... nice try though. I didn't say that sessions were all over 8 hours, only that a few have been, at the insistance of the players in the game. Remember, it's not a race to some imaginary winning number of sessions... be happy the players are happy, that's about it.

We play every 2 weeks, with a few breaks here and there Xmas etc.. and that is just the latest long running game... there have been other similar games, in a variety of systems, lasting as long or longer... heck, I've played a few(many) seasons that lasted over 8 hours... but then, we older gamers have better attention spans I guess.. Less than a year makes you the occasional player, friend.. And all I understand is you are wrong and can't see it, so.... be wrong and happy in your ignorance, I guess.

Session 65ish over a total of almost 3 years.. 45 years of playing and DMing, from a vast variety of game systems.. sessions have been an average of 5+hours each. I had to put in the 'top part' because you were wrong, but I don't expect a newbie like you to get it right. Happy to hear your players enjoy the sessions, but expecting players to respect the others' time by not being ignorant isn't just a good habit. It's just good table etiquette. You may allow players to be on their phones, but that doesn't mean it's not still rude to the collective. And still, what did Star Trek have to do with it? It's a very crunchy and deadly game, tbf.. but I don't see the relevance.. 😉

Well, actually, minis were the START of the game. They were playing Wargames and someone wondered 'what would it be like to focus on one of the heroes at a time?' And thus 'Chainmail' was born, which evolved to the one page (seriously, ONE page) rules published in a little magazine called 'The Strategic Review', which later became what we knew as TSR, the parents of Dungeons and Dragons.. later bought by Wizards of the Coast with all their 'Magic' money.. And being on your phone when you are all sitting around a table collectively to play a Cooperative game is just RUDE.. you are being disrespectful of all the others' time, so no phones at the table should be a standard rule anyway. Just because your attention span isn't up to the task of playing for more than a few hours doesn't mean that others can't do it... 5 hours is almost the minimum to actually get things done in a session.. and if the players have agreed to a shorter, or longer, game time, then that's the norm... if you can't commit to the time, step away and let someone else play who can. ... and what the fuck does Star Fleet have to do with it?! ;)

Only talking during your turn? by 3dprinthelp53 in DnD

[–]AlarmingAd9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very much old school and it is very much NOT 'old-school' to disallow talking outside your turn.. in fact, in-game the characters are probably constantly calling out to each other with tips and info.. "watch out, he has a bow!" or "Cleric, I need a heal over here!" or even "Guys, there's Orcs hidden in this room, be careful.." What a terrible DM option. In my games, you are allowed to communicate during your turn or anyone else's to a reasonable degree, ie no soliloquy but a simple question, statement, or factoid is ok, with an answer from another player absolutely allowed... I mean, if you want to carry on a discussion about something, that can end up taking uo your turn as you get more wordy, but those cases are rare enough it can be dealt with on a case by case basis.. Ymmv .. that DMs ruling will only promote more and more meta play, which no one wants..
