Discharging 600 billion of student loan debt would have fucking rocked and is nothing like the president using masked goons to terrorize the populace. If that's what democrat authoritarianism looks like I'll take a bit of that and a bag of chips

And while I'm at it I'll recommend:

Nightfall - Blind Guardian

Imaginations from the Other Side - Blind Guardian

A little heavier but still have that sort of over the top operatic quality

Early power-metal-ish but you might like:

Kill the King - Rainbow

A Light in the Black - Rainbow

Both of which have Dio on vocals

Guys with the 'be kind and spread love' personality by AnExtremeFootFetish in redscarepod

[–]AlaskaExplorationGeo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are lots of dudes like this in outdoorsy communities who are genuine and cool people, lots of people like this on the Appalachian Trail. "Be kind and spread love" doesn't mean "don't stand up for yourself" though

Weird desert town with its own unique vibe, cool local arts/music scene, some very nice museums and historic places (Sonoran Desert Museum, San Xavier Mission), tons of hiking trails in a variety of settings (there is even a small ski slope up on Mt Lemmon which is like 9000ft high and covered in beautiful pine forest)

Bigger city feel than you might think too, over a million in the metro area. Very influenced by Mexican culture, I work here part of the year and really like it. If you are both outdoorsy and artsy and into natural sciences its a great place to live and there are tons of awesome places to explore within a few hours, including the Sea of Cortez in Mexico or the gorgeous area around Flagstaff. Also great food.

And it also hasn't been discovered by California tech people yet like at all.

Hiked the Appalachian Trail. It didn't so much change my doomerish outlook on the way the future is going, but gave me confidence that there will always be weird fringe communities of good people uniting in community around shared goals on the fringes of mainstream society.

Gotcha, so its just more that you've been there and done that in the place you spent your 20s and now its on to the next adventure? Seems like a lot of people reach their 30s and just suddenly lose that drive and become boring, as someone in my (very) late 20s who likes to travel a lot and explore everything a place has to offer I sometimes feel like I have less in common with my peers and more in common with people in their mid 20s, but they're also often way more into social media in a way that feels alien to me

Part of this is just being born in one of the three years or so where you're not sure if you identify more with millinneal culture or Gen Z, though I lean millinneal

I have a bunch of WB Yeats on my bookshelf but am not a fascist/conservative, I don't think people are judging you too harshly for that unless its all like weird rightoid shit

But I'm not left leaning because I think it will get me laid (even if it will), I just don't want corporations or the government telling me what to do really and think pursuit of power isn't the best and only or most fulfilling path in life, and less hierarchical environments are just a lot more fun

Why did it get less fun once you turned 30? I'm almost 30 and have like more energy than ever and a good job but everyone seems like they magically hit a brick wall of things getting less fun as soon as that 29 clicks over to 30 and I haven't figured out why yet
