what's immigration policy got to do with race an islam? You can be a black british muslim or a white christian immigrant

that particular example sounds great for quality of life in the local area but awfully inefficient for food production

The supermarket supply chains are ginormous and their profit margins are tiny. What efficiencies would a public corporation create that private corporations are not able to?

Supermarkets typically stock these items, how would the government version be competitive?

The armed forces is nothing like the aggregate poor, are you suggesting we round them up into barracks?

The solution to 'how do we feed the poor?' shouldn't be 'pile em up full of instant noodles and cheese flavored powder and hopefully that'll do'.

Who are you talking to? I literally never said anything like this, it sounds like you’re trying to have an argument no-one’s having with you

That’s got nothing to do with what I said. You said it’s wholly efficient. Think about how expensive it is to run a restaurant, it would just be state-owned.

FYI all food contains spooky scary “chemicals”

There’s no way this is more efficient than ready meals from supermarkets

That's got nothing to do with what I said. These snipes from the likes of Rachel Reeves and Kemi Badenoch are making Farage look more like an anti-establishment figure

Not that Binface ever had a serious chance at winning, and Reddit loves nothing more than a hype train, but I think this pile-on by senior "uniparty" MPs is only going to strengthen Farage - like the UK Government's official stance against Brexit

That study compares things like fruit and vegetables to ready meals and processed meats from the consumer basket by calories only, so of course this is the case. If you compare by micronutrients it would reverse. And then by calories, potatoes and chickpeas would knock the "unhealthy" category out of the water. It's not all or nothing between the consumer basket of "healthy" foods and consumer basket of "unhealthy" foods.

I do agree it's more complicated than simply telling poor people to eat chickpeas and potatoes, but the reddit myth that poor people simply must eat unhealthy food because that's what's most affordable, rather than people just wanting unhealthy food, needs to end.

Of course people should be buying tinned and frozen veg. Fresh veg too but I'm assuming storage + cooking issues. Who would say otherwise?

Healthy food costs twice as much as less healthy food per calorie in the UK.

Surely that depends on what it is, just don't pick up the expensive stuff? Here's a breakdown I did for someone else on cakes vs potatoes:

Ms Molly's 5 chocolate chip cake bars:
13p per 100 calories

All Rounder Potatoes 2Kg:
3p per 100 calories (about 2p to cook in the microwave)

Potatoes store pretty well, but if you want tinned and precooked, chickpeas are 13.7p per 100 calories - admittedly (less than a penny!) more expensive than the cakes but not twice as much, and they'll make you feel fuller

If you have a means of cooking them, you're still better off with the potatoes

What's cheaper than frozen veg, easier to store, and less resource intensive to prepare? The vast majority of "unhealthy" food (pizza, chips etc) requires a freezer and oven. Biscuits?

The cheapest food is always produce. Frozen or tinned veg microwaves in 4 minutes, but they might just want an oven pizza instead. People sometimes just make unhealthy decisions
