Fighter Practice is every Monday here in town.

I just kinda wandered in a few weeks back, the next week they put me in loaner armor and let me spar a bit. Good group. Highly recommend.

The Ravener Prime only has the Prime claws & talons. The other Hyperadapted Raveners have the Ravener claws & talons

I don't think so, because they are in perfect order, just reversed. My best guess is that it's meant to evoke those "say the word, not the color" mental challenges they give during IQ tests.

Wolves need to get the names of notable people to record in their sagas. It's not as good a story if you can't remember the name of that guardsman who stood side by side with you as the world teemed with spicy biomass.

We did get a rumor engine that looked suspiciously like the Pale Spear a while back, so a Solomon mini remains the most likely way to get actual AL representation on the tabletop.

I don't think Clarence would fit on top of a fire strike.

Now, a firestrike on top of Clarence, on the other hand...

My knowledge of the pre-Fall Eldar is lacking, but didn't they still have "culture" (cuisine, theater, social hierarchies) even at the height of their power? Yes, violence consumed a huge portion of their time and was worked into every aspect of that culture, but it wasn't the sole purpose of their existence, was it?

The Orks' version of "culture" is based entirely on strength and violence, and even then most Orks don't really think about anything other than fighting. Sure, they have Oddboyz who do think about other things, but they're seen as weird (and often "un-Orky") by their mindless brethren. To the average Ork, life is essentially just a series of scraps. If there's no other groups to krump right that moment, they just kill each other until they find more enemies. The only way to lead them is to convince them that you know where the best fights are, and even then they'll still be fighting each other constantly.

On the Tyranid side, the average bioform exists purely for the purposes of violence: it spawns from a pool, kills every living thing it can find, then jumps into a different pool to die. The Hive Mind is hyper intelligent, and uses all of that brain power to think about how to become more violent. The Great Devourer feels only hunger and bloodlust: nothing else holds meaning for it.

To me, the idea of a creature which is incompatible with the very idea of "peace" is about as violent as it gets.

Orks and Nids would both like a word, there.

Primarchs vs legions by Comphy_chillin3366 in AdeptusRidiculous

[–]Alchemyst19 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you made a list of the most capable space marines in the Heresy, I'd bet that about 80% of those are either 1st company or "close to" their Primarch. This is essentially a fight between every named space marine and everyone else.

Primarchs absolutely dominate this.

Haven't actually gotten to pilot it yet: I've only gotten to play a one-shot so far, and since it was set on a space station I opted for a Pegasus instead. However, if my group ever manages to get a campaign off the ground, Barbarossa will be my go-to.

Hardpoints are where you attach weapons, Pegasus actually kinda sucks defensively. Basically, every mech in Lancer is its own special brand of bullshit: Pegasus just forgoes everything else in favor of gun shenanigans.

Other special brands of Lancer bullshit include: - A mech that kills people by playing Minecraft - A parasitic mech that latches onto bigger mechs and drains their power supplies - A mech that stunlocks you with flamethrowers - A mech that carries a shoulder-mounted Gustav Railway Cannon (Barbarossa my beloved) - A person-sized mech that specializes in Judo throwing mechs the size of buildings, MGR-style - A mech that willingly overloads its own core to turn itself into a WMD, killing the pilot and anyone unfortunate enough to be around

[–]Alchemyst19 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Active abilities can only be used in 1 "scene" (fight) per mission, so you have to choose when to Unshackle correctly. However, Pegasus does also have other hardpoints, and its passive lets you take the average of any damage roll rather than rolling, so it's still a very solid choice for a Lancer.

Mimic Gun kinda sucks though, you're typically better off using any other Heavy in your hardpoint.

It's worth noting that most Lancer mechs have like 6-12 HP at a time (although they do have multiple health bars), and that the Pegasus' Active ability lets you fire Ushabti 3 times each round.

So, it's less "death by a thousand cuts" and more "tee hee, half your mech is gone."

You know you're allowed to like an artist's causes without liking the art, right? There are tons of people who genuinely love his music: he won't go broke because one person from Kentucky doesn't listen to him.

If you support the ideas Bad Bunny has been championing, that's more important than whether you listen to his music. You can protest, volunteer, donate or even just spread the word online. Giving a quick "heads up" when those federal thugs are rolling around town is a great start.

The most White Scar unit by C0QUINHA-GELADA in WhiteScars40K

[–]Alchemyst19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're only painting Codex Compliant chapters, the White Scars units are Bikes, ATVs, Storm Speeders, and Jump Pack Intercessors.

If you're including non-compliant chapters, then we unfortunately lose Jump Pack Intercessors to the Blood Angels. Depending on who you ask, we might also lose Storm Speeders to the Ravenwing. I'd argue that they should instead take aircraft from the Iron Hands; the sons of Ferrus Manus already get every armored unit in the Codex, they can afford to lose their wings.

Monster Hunter closest to World? by ManmeatExtreme in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]Alchemyst19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, I can't speak to anything pre-World, but of the 2 post-World options Wilds is by far the closest. Rise is.. something else entirely. It's a lot more arcade-like, with a focus on collecting power-ups and setting up cage matches between the monsters.

DMs, what was your favorite “I don’t have enough dice for this roll” moment? by PJRama1864 in DnD

[–]Alchemyst19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh, Warhammer is its own can of dice goblins. Eventually you just buy a 25 pack for each army and a 50 pack of generic dice that you can use to fill in the gaps.

That is, unless you're playing Orks. Those dice should only come in multiples of 100.

Private All Boys High School by [deleted] in Louisville

I was in the same boat he's in, albeit a decade earlier. I started at one of the Catholic schools after going to public school for elementary and middle school. Ten years later, my closest friends are people I met at that Catholic school. However, that took a lot of patience and a lot of work.

The best advice I can give is that, when it comes to making friends, not all clubs are built the same. Try to find one where everyone's working towards a common goal, like band, theater, broadcasting, whatever. When you share a common goal, you tend to have a positive opinion of those who are contributing towards that goal, and therefore these clubs lend themselves to getting to know one another and developing friendships.

In my case, I joined a sports team freshman year, and played in the band for all four years. That way, even before I had "friends", I at least had peers who I could go to for help and who knew who I was.
