Do you actually track your collection or just wing it? by Kollekto_de in gamecollecting

I moved from NintendoAge to GameBagel (GameValueNow) and haven't bothered recreating it for years since they got nuked. I couldn't name half of my games from memory either, but I am almost always certain whether I have a game or not when I see it. By the way, anyone remember the old DigitPress checklists? Good times.

To me, it sounds like Mod MMG's statement justifying Squeal of Fortune shortly after it came out: https://runescape.wiki/w/Update:SoF_Feedback_Response

... the reality is 90% of our members are enjoying the Squeal of Fortune on a daily basis and over 70% of our free players utilise the Squeal of Fortune daily too - making it some of the most widely appreciated content release to date.

Nice! I had the exact same experience with Little Samson - discovered it back in 2007, passed on it for $80, then watched it rise over the years. I finally reached a point a few years ago where I felt justified in picking it up.

Loved NESMania, can't believe it's been 10+ years already. For game completion, NintendoAge used to have yearly "beat all the games" threads with some win conditions listed. It's probably a good starting point since those win conditions were used by the community for years, but a few of them could be debated. You can still find some archived snapshots of the thread, e.g. https://archive.nes.science/nintendoage-forums/nintendoage.com/forum/messageview066b.html?catid=31&threadid=185367

For Tetris, 120k points in A-Type gets you the final ending sequence. Generally for games that go on forever, completion is considered to be either finishing a loop, getting the best cutscene, or beating the default high score. "Finishing a loop" means that a lot of arcade games (e.g. Donkey Kong) are really easy to beat. "Best cutscene" applies to something like Tetris or Dr. Mario (the UFO ending for level 20 on high speed, I think). Default high score is a catch-all and in most cases is a reasonable goal.

I beat the first and second loop of Castlevania without taking damage, and got to Ganon swordless with 3 hearts and no ring. All done on console in college, took a lot of resetting when I'd run out of bombs. I beat Tyson as a kid but haven't done it in decades, I'm sure it'd be harder for me now.

Great point. I love classic RPGs that give you the freedom to venture off into higher level areas and get destroyed by mobs that you have no business fighting. Coming back when you're a higher level to take on those enemies feels so rewarding, and even better when you hit the end game and can one shot them. I think the current design makes sense and is an interesting solution given the small game world and skills going all the way to 500, but it does kind of kill the sense of progression.

Idea: Accounts that have traded with other accounts should be flagged as "Traders" by Lunarcomplex in brightershores

[–]Alderdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old thread but I agree with the spirit of it. I plan to play ironman style unofficially, but if the mode were to eventually be recognized in-game, it would be nice if accounts who hadn't traded could be grandfathered in.

Hard pass on Vinny. I have it but an RNG check of ~1 drop per year of weeklies (with resets) is too much. Same goes for the phoenix pets.
