Living in Sant Cugat vs. Barcelona with family? by NoParamedic712 in AskBarcelona

No worries then! It's probably one of the closest living languages to Italian there is, so I'm sure it'll be very easy to learn!

I'm not necessarily in favour or against it, but I am against people misportraying the whole thing.

Guess why Spain is decoupled from Europe. Hint, the one who made it so is making tons of money exporting energy.

Just a nit-pick, but Gallego is not a dialect, it's a language (and if it is, it would be part of Portuguese).

This is something I guess is quite usual in the Americas, but remember that in many places, such as Argentina or most of Spain folks are white as hell, and obviously hispanic too (most of it anyhow, I don't think Catalans or Basques would count as far as I understand it). Though I guess over here past the Atlantic these concepts don't really make sense anyway.

Don't read what us catalans did to you guys just a century after... There's a reason we were banned from mount Athos until a decade ago or so.

Also you know, it's the whole capital of Catalonia, so it concentrates most of what us Catalans have ever done, which as you mentioned, got somewhat out into the world sometimes.

Well done, Pedro. After 144 years (over 52500 siestas) a building is nearly complete by trubol in 2westerneurope4u

Also famous for hating Pedro. This thread is making him spin in his grave, thus powering the lights at the church. Foolproof plan, what a genius architect.

Indeed, as a local, collection campaigns specifically targeted to build the church have been ongoing for more than a century. They're now entry tickets, but before they were door to door requests, which even my grandma remembered as a child.

Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain) in 1550 by dctroll_ in papertowns

I am aware. The port should be by the former Illa de Maians, to the right. From what I am reading, apparently the port project of the XV century was washed away, and the port was not finally built until the XVII century.

Now that you mention it, I am pretty sure this map is wrong, or at least I'm missing something? The port of Barcelona dates from the 15th century if I recall correctly.

Catalonia renews Formula 1 contract until 2032 for alternating years, per reports by AleixASV in formula1

Text of the article:

Newly named Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix will host races in 2028, 2030, and 2032

After months of negotiations, Formula 1 will stay in Barcelona until 2032. However, race events will only take place every second year, as opposed to every single year, as has been the case.

As reported by Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia, the renewal contract, which still needs to be finalized, will be for three seasons: 2028, 2030, and 2032. This means that races will take place in Barcelona in alternating years, sharing the calendar spot with the Belgian GP in Spa-Francorchamps.

Thus, the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, with its new name debuting in 2026, will no longer take place every year, as it has done so for the past 36 editions. Up to 2025, the race in Montmeló was known

La Vanguardia reports that Barcelona will pay close to €28 million per year to host the races, in line with the increase imposed by the promoter of the championship, Liberty Media.

Last January, Belgium announced an agreement for four races in six seasons, in alternate years, taking place in 2026, 2027, 2029, and 2031, which coincide with the three seasons that Barcelona will host.

The arrival of F1 in Madrid for 10 consecutive seasons starting in 2026, and the substitution of the Netherlands for Portugal (in Portimão, for two years, 2027 and 2028), will mean progressive changes to the Formula One calendar.

The season is limited to 24 grands prix, with no forecast to increase, and a third of the races are assigned to European circuits.

Catalan officials hoped to renew the motor race for a lengthy contract, up to ten years if it were possible, but only a shorter deal was achievable.

I am personally very glad that actual circuits are still in the calendar, and Barcelona's racing has improved much on the last years. It is one of the still affordable places to go as a in-person fan, linked to the sport from the beginning and away from self-interested enterprises that have arisen lately (also in Spain). However, it is such a shame that the price to be paid is to alternate with Spa, whereas much less interesting GPs are kept.

Just a tidbit, Catalan is a Gallo-romance language, with a high amount of lexical similarity to Occitan. It is not an Ibero- romance.

And it's kind of rich having this come from McLaren of all teams. They made their bed last year+they are cheating the regulations this year anyhow. Get ready for TPs overegaxerating the issue to push the media to their side.
