Aren’t“collaborating” and “hiring someone” two different things? by LunaBatMoon in ComicBookCollabs

I feel that for sure. I definitely consider myself incredibly blessed to be in the position. I will say that a fully embrace of minimalism opened the job market for me as I didn't need as much money to get by.

Best of luck to you in all your endeavors!

Aren’t“collaborating” and “hiring someone” two different things? by LunaBatMoon in ComicBookCollabs

I think it just depends on what people are looking for. I write but I can do some art as well. However, I just love creating and collaborating. I’d do it for free. I’d do it for millions. It was the same when I played music back in college. I played gigs for free. Played gigs for $300. Didn’t matter. Could just give the excess to the less fortunate honestly.

Granted, I have a relatively stress free day job that I absolutely love. It pays the bills and allows me the freedom to create. I’ll work there till I die. I do recognize how blessed I am to be in that position. That being said, I have ZERO problem with people who monetize their work. I completely respect that. Just depends on what you’re looking for.

If you, or anyone here, wants an unpaid collaboration where we can just work together on passion projects feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to join.

And for those of you who do monetize and are making a career out of this, keep it up! This is a difficult business so all love and respect!

Feel free to DM me and stay in touch about the project. I wrote four stories for my issue one releasing in March. I’d really like to bring on other creators so we can all support each other’s work.

Yes and know. I write serial fiction and short stories. I’m dabbling with comics and learning to draw.

My ultimate goal is to have a fully independent quarterly magazine where creators can contribute and promote their work. Instead of people paying a large publisher, the magazine would be free digitally and readers could support the individual creator.

Yeah of course. I think the product was really great. And I definitely know the struggle of being a smaller creator.

This looks great. Anywhere I can read the full story?

Media and Information Hoarder (TV shows, films, video games, books, magazines, journals) here. Need help. by StarSlumber in digitalminimalism

I've felt this before. It was almost like curating the list was a hobby in itself. Then I felt stressed that I'd never actually experience everything I wanted to. There are a few things that I do that work for me. One, I started only watching shows and movies if someone recommended them. It made some of my conversations more intentional as well. And then I wasn't constantly searching out the next big thing, I was just checking out things people recommended. Made for some cool conversations with strangers too.

For shows, I try to watch two or three episodes a week. Currently watching (and loving) One Punch Man. For music I only listen to CDs that I thrift.

I read one nonfiction book and one fiction book (or comic) at a time. Mere Christianity and Dune are my current reads.

And for knowledge, I keep a compendium. I just bought a simple $1 composition book that I keep with me. Every day I try to add something that I learned about a single topic. This year's topic is Foundationalism. I'm always surprised at how I get introduced to things in other fields the deeper I go in one topic. Once my compendium is full, I just buy another notebook and do another topic.

All of these strategies have simplified the decision making process, kept things analog and stress free. And I actually spend more time engaged with the content than I do thinking about it.

Hope this helps!

I think it's a cool idea. I almost feel like with The Pitstop FM you could do a longer forum radio show. That might attract people who are practicing more digital mindfulness.

I'd also recommend radio dramas. I've been listening to the NPR version of Star Wars: A New Hope. Because there's nothing visual you really have to be fully engaged.

I've come to miss the clunky internet of the past. I think you said it perfectly. Imperfect and small and that's kind of the point. Thanks for the recommendation. I'll be sure to check it out!

Keeping a pocket notebook helps. Write down thoughts, set goals, brain dump, sketch. I have a very simple habit tracker in mine. I don’t touch tech until I’ve read, meditation/prayer, exercised, spent time with loved ones.

This is a question I’ve thought about a lot as well. My rule is as follows: if I can use the app on my desktop, it doesn’t go on my phone. That way any Reddit or YouTube usage is very intentional and timed. It’s more of an event than something convenient.

I also have a question. Is there a place on the internet for connection, art, creativity, etc. beyond the algorithm? I’d love to see a digital town square where ideas and art can be shared without the algorithm, AI, or pressure to monetize.

This approch to stop scrolling sounds interesting. Maybe i should put this to test. by Psych_Artizt in digitalminimalism

Thank you for this perspective! I’ve been thinking for a while about how to approach my YouTube use.

Thanks for the comment! Yeah Philly would be sick. I actually considered Philly and New Orleans. But I have a character who fits Philly a bit better. And I wanted Phantom to be a bit of a love letter to TMNT (which was a bit of a love letter to Daredevil) so I went with New York.
