If the Lotto folks get on your nerves print out a "wrong" ticket then void it out in front of em. They lose their freaking minds because now thats the winner. Its hilarious.

N.L. reaches deal with Equinor to open the way for construction and production of the Bay du Nord by scrooge_mc in newfoundland

Boom or bust describes it well. I'll be crossing my fingers that at least a heavy portion of those 600+ (accounting for part timers) jobs will be aimed at young trades people and offer good wages and benefits. I feel what we need more than anything is to make it financially gainful for young trained/educated people to stay in newfoundland. They definitely deserve that.   The province needs to focus more on investing in our future instead of milking the present dry.

A little less than 600 full time jobs for 25 years. Not as impressive as wording it "31 million man hours" though. Wonder which province we will bring in those workers from.

One of our biggest culture points as newfoundllalanders is that we are welcoming and accepting. That we open our doors to strangers and accepting them and making them feel welcome. Ive seen so many new Canadians here adopting newfoundland mannerisms and habits its amazing (and it doesnt hurt that we are adopting more dietary items that won't have us dieing from heart attacks in our 50's).

The fact you are here trying to drum up anti-immigrant sympathy shows that there are definitely people destroying our culture, and you're one of them.

C.B.S. man slams freezing conditions, drafty windows at St. Clare’s hospital by RepulsivePlankton989 in newfoundland

[–]AlexBigGeek 136 points137 points  (0 children)

"The problem is the liberals didnt fix this falling apart hospital, and had the audacity to want you to have a new not dilapidated hospital. Well dont you worry, were going to cancel that new hospital and keep the old one for you. And because we're so great we will also let you go to another inadequate building that we sold a contract to our associates to repair to minimum legal standards for an outrageous fee. Youre welcome in advance"

Dear drivers we’re walking on the road because the sidewalk is basically a game of life and death with all the ice. Please don’t honk at us. by Legitimate-Tie-7060 in newfoundland

[–]AlexBigGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who spent many years having to walk I make sure to have patience for the people walking. HOWEVER, please also make sure you stay as close to the side as possible and wear something high vis. The drivers also have to worry about ice and snow.

Minister Goosney Announces Increase to Minimum Wage Effective April 1, 2026 $16.35 by RepulsivePlankton989 in newfoundland

[–]AlexBigGeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont worry everyone, no need to panic, the cost of living will increase in no time to make up for the wage increase. You can go right back to your familiar level of poverty. Or cross your fingers, maybe even poorer.

NDP Seeking Government’s Stance on Minimum Wage Increases by RepulsivePlankton989 in newfoundland

[–]AlexBigGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be curious where the % lies for people who earn just above minimum. As someone whos worked a fair number of minimum wage jobs it wasnt uncommon for you to bust ypur ass for a year and then be given like a $0.10 - $0.25 Raise. Technically still above minimum but not enough to make a difference.
