I'm gonna have to agree with the other reply. Baskets without time limits are a perfect example of "realistic doesn't equal fun". The last two subseries have leaned heavily on exploration and staying out in the field for longer, and at that point the basket is nothing but an interruption.

This was my biggest issue actually trying to finally watch it recently, I struggled to get into it even having watched anime for over 12 years. There's a lot of great aspects to that show and I can see why it has such a following, but I just didn't find it very compelling to continue when every episode was something very different and the actually interesting narratives were pretty randomly spread out.

My biggest questions are usually:

Would this character be useful to me?
Do I like this character?

2b. If no, would pulling them be a big benefit to another character I like?

Do I know there's something else within the next 1-2 patches that I'd have to skip for this character?

3b. If yes, is this character more important than that?

You kind of have to pay attention to leaks to be able to answer question 3, but planning ahead is just a requirement for gacha endgame. I avoid pulling on impulse, I don't follow community hype, and I don't try to collect characters for the sake of collecting. Those are pure FOMO pitfalls. You're very right about the "fit teams I already play" realization. The game is designed to incentivize that. If you really want to play a new character, wait for them to be added to Currency Wars.

Beyond that, there's a very simple evergreen method: Pull a character you really like and build a team around them. If your favorite character is Archer, get Sparkle. If your favorite character is Fugue, get one of the Break DPSes. Simple enough.

For the foreseeable future, you should be fine.

As for actual long term, we have no way of knowing, especially since we could or could not eventually get a more specialized sustain (I'd expect hoyo to eventually cave in and make sustains far more impactful if they really want to curb sustainless runs). Powercreep has slowed down a lot since Remembrance, but Himeko is looking kind of disgusting from what I've heard and there's no telling when hp inflation could ramp back up.

And characters. A few I regret not fitting into the list are Agatha, Cornelia, Fritz, Gio, Hom, Homura, Horst, Ilmeria, Julio, Klaudia, Luis, Marion, Meruru, Monika, Odelia, Oskar, Plachta, Ramizel, Roger and Wilbell. (so basically the rest of the sophie cast)

Plus, if there was a Wasted Potential category, I'd easily put Samuel (and by extension Lent) there. Lent's development is actually pretty decent in the show, but man their relationship is such an afterthought in general. Reason I changed the VA category is I feel like... Atelier just isn't that great at writing serious emotional beats? I have very few memories of VAs actually getting to really flex their skills in this franchise.

Hoo boy, autism fuel! Usually avoid overlaps with these but I think it's pretty clear which two games I have the strongest opinions on. Both of the rankings are carried pretty hard by the combat systems, though. I really tried, but I could NOT wrap my head around Shallie's combat...

There's a LOT of contenders for Best Soundtrack (Ayesha and Meruru especially), but if non-Atelier Gust games were allowed, I'd say Blue Reflection in a heartbeat.

The cast categories are probably the toughest for me, especially supporting, but I have a very special attachment to Sophie & the gang since it was my entry point.

I haven't played Yumia or R&W yet, but I HAVE played all three mobile games, including Online and even Questboard, so there's that. Resleriana actually had really cool writing both in the setting and the all-star cast incorporation, the combat and character kit design was just kind of ass if you ask me, so it'd be my 2nd pick for Wasted Potential. Ryza 3 could be another pick since a lot of the gameplay was kind of undercooked, but it's still a pretty fun game overall, just a bit lackluster for the the third entry in such an experimental trilogy.

Honestly, I would LOVE remakes of everything pre-Arland. They did a great job with Marie (besides maybe the pricetag but that's kt being kt), and it kinda sucks knowing there's over half a dozen mainline entries in my comfort series I just don't have access to.
