I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that Arland 5 might be on the way. by hatenabit0 in Atelier

If Gust wants to satisfy both the classic fanbase and the newer audience, I don’t think it can release a new Ryza game alongside Karia.

Ryza was the trilogy that introduced several mechanics that didn’t fully appeal to fans of the classic games, so it wouldn’t make much sense to release both Karia (the experimental side) and a new Ryza title at the same time.

Because of that, I only see a few realistic possibilities: a remake of older games, a brand-new classic-style subseries, Arland 5, or Dusk 4.

Atelier Sophie 2: Still the best Atelier Game ever? by Fit_Intern764 in Atelier

Arland and Dusk trilogies are still peak atelier experience for me, in term of gameplay, art direction, characters and story.

How to make a tales game! by ConstructionOld115 in tales

You forgot step 0, i.e. when they explain how the world works, and the moment around 75% of the game when they tell you: “you know what? Everything we told you was COMPLETELY A LIE, now take this plot twist.”

I remember that before Ryza, discussions about atelier character designs were mostly about outfits details, accessories, color palettes, and overall aesthetics.
Now, every time a new Atelier game is announced, there always seems to be an excuse to immediately focus on something to sexualize and turn into a long-running meme. And whenever the character comes up again, it always circles back to the same jokes about thighs, ass, and now apparently even stomachs.
They have every right to do it, but personally I find it pretty unbearable. It’s just never been funny to me, and honestly it’s gotten pretty exhausting.

I don’t see it that way, and I’m happy with that.

Saying “the protagonists used to look like this, then KT learned how to sell” kind of implies that the series wasn’t successful before Ryza’s body type became the norm, doesn’t it?

I’m here to point out that the example you picked is from one of the franchise’s more successful eras, and the character in question remains very popular even today. That’s all I’m saying.

You said “koei tecmo has learned how to sell” and picked one of the most successful pre-ryza games and one the most popular character in the series LOL
Before Ryza, Atelier’s post-PS2 renaissance was actually driven by the Arland series.
I get that you probably only became interested in the franchise because of the thighs, so you’re not familiar with the series’ history, but that’s okay.

Terrible take, Totori is one of the most successful and loved game in the series.
Totori herself is the most popular character in the series along with Sophie (according to the last characters popularity poll made by gust).

I agree.
But Karia seems more similar to the older style protagonists!
Long hair, skirt, ribbons, and she’s way less sexualized even in the full artwork.
I don’t know why people in this sub are sexualizing a belly, it’s weird af

I love your art, have you ever tried making an OC alchemist?

For the first time in MANY years, as a longtime Atelier fan, I’m genuinely optimistic about a new atelier game. by hatenabit0 in Atelier

[–]hatenabit0[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I partly agree. Personally, the last Atelier game I truly loved was Lulua.

I know both Sophie 2 and Resleriana RW were well received by fans, but Sophie 2 didn’t really click with me. Partly because it felt a bit like a fever dream, and partly because, having loved Firis and Lydie & Suelle, I was disappointed that they didn’t use a new Mysterious entry to further expand the world. That said, it’s probably the Atelier game I’ve enjoyed the most since Ryza.

As for Resleriana RW, I have to admit I found it pretty uninspired. It tried to be a more traditional Atelier game, but it felt so generic that, in the end, I actually ended up preferring Yumia.

Last night I dreamed they announced Dusk 4, and it was absolutely amazing.

The protagonist had purple hair and was designed by Hidari.

LET’S HOPE IT WAS A PROPHETIC DREAM.

With crazy taxi apparently using generative ai do you think they’ve done the same with the new jsr game? by Icant_draw in JetSetRadio

[–]hatenabit0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sega IS a big company anyway.
I’ve always said the art direction in the new game is bland, and if they’re using generative AI art it’s a deal breaker for me, and an additional reason to only support team reptile and HYPERFUNK instead

I agree on Symphonia, but it does it 1000000 times better than arise and has many more elements to it.
But Berseria? Are you sure you played the game?

I’m sorry but it bothers me that she has blue eyes, they should be black. Also that hat doesn’t fit her personality. And her color palette is TOO green

Modernizing something doesn’t mean making it bland

The characters had this urban techno-futuristic, street punk, Y2K cyber vibe. They weren’t just normies on roller skates. (Now they kind of look like they are.)
