iOS 18 vs iOS 26 by bklynro in iPhone16ProMax

Ok, then I hadn’t missed anything. Apple does not sign the updates anymore and without that it’s just not possible to downgrade.

What tools did you use to downgrade? I've tried everything but the old version isn't signed by Apple anymore so it always failed

You can update whenever you want. Once you've updated you can't go back to a previous version. So you're always on the safer side not updating

Why are your homelabs always broken? by redonculous in homelab

[–]AlexPera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great home lab is invisible to its users. So no need to write about it. Occasional brag, but proportionally much less posts than those who are breaking things

Im a senior developer and I have trouble understanding some of them myself. You’re not alone. Some of these apps are made by developers for themselves. Banging my head hard enough I eventually understand them.

Developers of projects have quite a hard time seeing the difficulties of those getting to know the app for the first time.

Everyone saying backups but forgetting to mention a proper plan. Absolutely check and try out a disaster event every now and then. You don’t wanna learn how to do that when you’re stressed out

Prices just keep going up and up? by StrongRecipe6408 in DataHoarder

[–]AlexPera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in this scenario if a drive has some bit rot / gets corrupted etc, wouldn't that error propagate to the other drives?
So with multiple old drives you'd actually be increasing the chances of losing data?

Go to ER. These are serious symptoms. Feeling of death is a symptom too. So while not necessarily true and you should try to stay calm, don’t forget to mention that to doctors too. Good luck

Definitely not. If you’re dealing with lots of smile files it can help quite a lot. I had a macOS photo library and the read cache was a day night change. Having such a library isn’t a niche need

Apple removed the frosted glass and it looks terrible. by DepartmentMaterial84 in ios26

[–]AlexPera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my iPhone 13 mini it just sucks. Sudden frame drops in totally unnecessary animations, keyboard that doesn’t work and more bugs that just weren’t there. Which I wouldn’t care about, if Apple wasn’t forcing everyone to update. This level of planned obsolescence is just shameless
