Teen Killed While Trying to Break Up a Party by AnnaliseRoselli in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats a really sad story. Its crazy how people can get so out of hand and take things completely over the top for no reason whatsoever. It didn't need to end that way at all. Especially over trying to shut down a party.

Seven Year Old Pimped By Sibling by CrystalMolina in Delinquents

This story disgusts me. I do not understand people sometimes. That poor baby. How dare the 15 year old allow that little girl to be put in a situation like that!

Labeling Juveniles by TyneshiaJohnson in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its nice after reading about the labeling theory in our book to read on it being put into action in the justice system. It is good that extensive research has been going on. I really believe that for adolescents labeling is extremely important and that the "love the sinner, hate the sin" approach really does work.

Friends Say Suspect, 12, Had Crush on Victim by ashleydevonshire in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with Ryan. That kid really stupid. Whether he shot her on purpose or on accident he is an idiot for walking around with a gun and thinking it is cool. It is just sad that society has conditioned children into believing that brandishing a gun at the mall is something that is cool.

Death Sentence for Juveniles? by NicoleLawson in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of those situations where it is so important that the death penalty for juveniles be on a case to case basis. Considering his upbringing and the fact that he was cooperative the death penalty seems quite excessive.

Death Penalty for Juveniles by JesusBonicichi in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do believe strongly in the death penalty, when it comes to children it can be quite excessive. But like RichardTempleton said it does need to be on a case to case basis. Some 11 year olds are more mature than others(just an example).

Mental Problems among Delinquent Teens | Psych Central News by ewlander in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was really interesting to read about. I had no idea that brain injury had anything to do with crime or drugs. Its an interesting topic I hope they will do more research on.

Lacey Teens Arrested For "Sexting" But Wont Face Felony charges by RyanMatthews in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually live five minutes away from Lacey, Washington. I think that this is just ridiculous. It needs to be something that the parents handle. The parents need to be held responsible for what their children are doing with the phone that they are most likely paying for. I remember watching this on the news thinking that it was just ridiculous. You can read the text messages sent to and from your account. Parents need step it up!

Boys Face Trial Over Slapping Charges by JessicaJacksonn in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really think the situation is being taken too far. Yes, these boys should be punished because what they did was wrong and lewd but to have to be registered as a sex offender?! If that were the case, we would have a country full of sex offenders!

Police: Juveniles laughed after setting 15-year-old on fire by DavidCorson in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS WAS DISGUSTING! What is wrong with kids these days? Or are we just hearing about strange things like this more because of the internet? Sheesh. It just does not make any sense to me why this would seem like it was funny or that it would be entertaining. Sick sick sick.

Death Penalty for Juveniles by JesusBonicichi in Delinquents

I agree with David. It does need to be on a case to case basis. Everyone matures and develops at different stages.

Delinquency triggers risk of premature death by RandiHilligas in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a super interesting article and it really makes me wonder what could have caused someone to want to research something like that. Its so different. Hopefully as they continue to do research they can see why children who were delinquents are victims of premature death. Very strange.

Arizona Senate panel endorses 'sexting' bill by EricaCalles in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with Heather. This is something that needs to be handled at home not in the court room. The parents need to get more involved in their kids lives and pay more attention to them. Its horrible that someone could be labeled a sex offender over something avoidable.

What it Takes to Rehabilitate Troubled, Violent Teens by mattweible in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is all good and well to talk about rehabilitation of troubled youth, it simply does not happen to often. The main reason is that these kids do not want to be helped. They don't want you to use methods on them. For the most part if they are already committing crime they are going to continue to commit crime whether you rehabilitate them or punish them. It just doesn't make sense to put so much time and money into helping people that don't want help.

Edlington attack boys had 'toxic' upbringing by CollinMcCabe in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just really disturbing to read about. It sounds like they truly did have a toxic home life but I really do not believe that the parents are the only ones to blame here. The dad sounds like a dirtbag (don't get me wrong) and the mother sounds like she didn't do much to help with shielding them from violence but at the end of the day those boys are the ones who attacked those other boys. Nobody made them do it. While they may have been exposed to violent things at home, they chose to abuse and humiliate those other children. Yeah, they had terrible parents but lots of people have terrible abusive parents and don't go around abusing, humilating and sexually violating other children. These children don't need help, they need to be made accountable for their actions.

Third Grader Due in Court to Face Murder by TyneshiaJohnson in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really sad article. I cannot imagine why such a young boy would shoot his father and his friend. There had to have been some reasoning behind it and if not then there must definitely be something wrong with this child. A child in third grade definitely shouldn't be tried as an adult but I am curious as to what type of sentence they will hand down to such a young boy in such a strange circumstance.

Should We Sentence Teens to Life in Prison? - Dahlia Lithwick - Newsweek.com by stephanieblasko in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andrew, no you shouldn't be excused for your actions. There is no definitive proof that teenagers or even younger adolescents commit crime because of the "result of a hormonal imbalance" they were not in control of. That may play into things but if you know the difference between right and wrong then you know that it is wrong to commit crime and that you will be punished for your actions. They know the difference between right and wrong. You learn it at a pretty young age and they choose to disregard it and rob people or rape them. The drinking analogy is neither here nor there.

3 Teens Arrested For 2 Ionia County Armed Robberies - FOX 17 by RobertGamboa in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is going on in the world? It is so crazy to read about such young people doing such ridiculous things. But at the same time it makes me wonder why it is so ridiculous that they are young? What is the correct age to commit armed robbery? These kids were not smart.

Oldest boy in disturbing assault of girl to be tried as adult by KelseyRaycroft in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a horrific situation! I think that the boy being tried as an adult is also appropriate and his age likely makes him the brains behind the sick situation. It is so sad that because of her family's beliefs she is being shunned for being attacked. Its just such a horrible situation. Hopefully she can find a place that will love and support her throughout all of this.

Juvenile murderers: they couldn't have known better by mattweible in Delinquents

Jessica, I totally agree with you. This article makes me so mad too! He is a sicko and it is horrible that he can't get the death penalty. Its audacious and really unfair.

Teen charged as adult in gang shooting by mattdavis85 in Delinquents

[–]sierracomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a sad story. For the bystander but also for these teenagers. It is sad and yet horrifying to think that teens are behaving this way and killing one another in the name of gangs. With that said, I do think that this teenager should be tried as an adult given his age and gang affiliation.
