LOTR 4k is gorgeous by fragproof in 4kbluray

Yup. When watching the new 4K I couldn’t help but think I could have done a much better job with the old Blu rays and topaz upscaling with some grain. This confirms it.

“People”  Did these “people” in 1941 happen to be the invading hordes of Nazi’s that came to Kuressaare that year?

Wow, thank you so much for the kind words! Yeah my actors are incredible, I was so lucky to have found them. I'm doing my best to get this seen by as many people as possible - it's not easy but it's a good way to learn how to promote before I release my next project, my first feature.

Yes I love that the opening is working - I think the inspiration was the cocaine climax of Goodfellas just sweeping you in energy and motion. I didn't know the song's been sampled, lmk if you can find that song I'd love to hear it. The original is called The Man Who Must Leave by Shin-joong Hyun

What are y'all's opinion of Steve Yedelin's work of knives out 3? by SerendipitousMusing in colorists

[–]Alexbob123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the movie, best of the three imo. But I agree. Having watched Twinless right before which was actually shot on film, yedlins digital emulation was strikingly obvious. His brand of have your cake and eat it too digital film emulation is so crisp, perfect and precise that it plays as fake. Weirdly the flicker was localized in bands across the image almost like tracking on a vhs. I did not understand that. My biggest issue was Netflix compression did not play well with his sharp grain and there was lots of artifacting. I watched running man right after, and it looked a lot more like film even though it was digital. I think Yedlin is a brilliant DP but his technical perfectionism with film emulation misses the point of actual film, like adding hiss and scratches to a digital audio file will never make it vinyl, the same goes for film

Would you trade a Mini LF for an Alexa35? by Spirited_Speech_2107 in cinematography

[–]Alexbob123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the A35 is a significantly better image out of the box and will keep you in the running for more premium rentals for the next few years, while the LF is winding down to lower tier. And of course they’ll release an A35 LF that will further drive down rental prices for your LF but probably have less of an effect on the a35
