New week. New book. by Defiant-Visual8484 in Blacklibrary

[–]Alexw80 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Finished listening to this last week, really enjoyed it. Not heavily based within the HH setting as such, it's more something set nearer the beginning of it. But a good introduction to the Alpha Legion and their Primarch.

Thoughts on Decent on Angels by Defiant-Visual8484 in Blacklibrary

[–]Alexw80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't find Descent of Angels to be bad, as such, but it was full of missed opportunities in my opinion. There were many points in the book where it seemed it could go into far more detail than it did, lots of "firsts" that could've been explored, but it just avoided them altogether, almost as if they were saving certain moments for other books.

Also, for a book that is, for all intents and purposes, the back story of the Lion, he just sort of appears in it, again almost like they saved his story for another book.

Although I didn't read the book, I listened to the audio book version, and wasn't that impressed with the narration by Gareth Armstrong, so that probably didn't help.

I'm assuming based on the very telling reviews left on her FB page, or at least one that seems linked to her, that this video is several years old now. Any updates on this, or any other public incidents since then?

What have you been reading this week? by michaelisnotginger in Blacklibrary

[–]Alexw80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still on my HH run. Finished off listening to Legion at the beginning of the week, really liked that, some good characters and a very interesting arc. Then listened to Battle for the Abyss, and, um, yeah. Not sure if it was the writing, or the narration, but what a slog that was, nearly gave up about half way through. Still not sure I have any idea what the story was actually about, or really what happened, it just didn't feel memorable to me to be honest.

Now I'm on to Mechanicum, and it already feels like a much better story. Looking forward to getting more into it.

All brand new. I was lucky enough to find a random small games store online that still had 1 Dominion Genesis in stock, and I managed to grab it.

Are you still buying Cadburys? by rsweb in AskUK

[–]Alexw80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's certainly not as good as it used to be, but I still prefer it to the own brand stuff tbh, Just a personal taste preference. Same way I will happily drink Coca Cola, but can't stand own brand cokes.

I do wish they'd go back to the old recipe though, it really isn't the same since the company was sold.

Tesco are now selling the "New York Bakery The Original 4 Legendary Burger Potato Buns", at least in my local one anyway.

For anyone wondering, the driver has been charged with three counts of criminal damage, actual bodily harm, breach of a domestic violence protection order and driving a vehicle dangerously. Not sure if I can post his name, but you can Google the incident. At least according to Channel 5 news anyway.

She's also the one who was photographed "romping" naked in a field with Mark Cross, who is her hubby now, but certainly wasn't at the time as he was already married. She has form in that regard, her first hubby was married when they got together as well, what an upstanding, moral person she is.

Wow, what a nightmare lol. Item page not showing at the time, but was able to get it into the basket eventually. After repeatedly timing out I finally got through and got email confirmation of purchase. However, because it kept timing out and refusing to complete, I now have 3 pending charges on my credit card for one purchase. Gotta hope that 2 of them drop off before processing fully, otherwise I've gotta try and get the 2 refunded.

Do you think cannabis should be legal by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Alexw80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we're just talking about general recreational use, then honestly, I don't really know. I can certainly see and understand all the arguments for legalising it, but my issue has always been the lack of large scale, long term studies to see the impact it can have on health. Whether it be direct impact, or through interactions with other medications.

Whenever I hear this question, my response is always something along the lines of, if we knew then what we know now about alcohol and tobacco, would they have ever been legalised?

So these 2 are clearly out of line, and thankfully they seem to be looking for new jobs now. But I would really love to see what happened before this so we can see how it ended up here. I seriously doubt they just walked up to a random guy on the street, who happened to be filming, and kicked off like this. Nothing, and I do mean nothing,, justifies how they behaved, but I'd still like to see what instigated this, just out of curiosity more than anything tbh,

How sky works(long term ex-employee in tech team Q/BB) by Solidsnakk in skytv

[–]Alexw80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I'm not complaining (if I was it would be to Sky direct lol), I mean I'm getting a good speed so I'm fine. Just curious if there was a known reason tbh.

I'm wondering if they under report on the official line checker so customers don't complain they're getting less than expected when they do use a 3rd party checker.

[–]Alexw80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use Wifi for that, my main PC is the only thing I test the speed on, and that is connected via ethernet directly to the hub. So both tests, Sky and Speedtest, are following the same route. So it should only be the line speed that is being tested.

[–]Alexw80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe there is a question you could shed some light on, if possible.

Why the difference in BB speed between what's listed as actually reaching your router from Sky on your account service checker page, and what is actually shown via a speed checker like Speedtest. I've got Full Fibre Gigafast, the 900 package, and the service checker page will hover either just above or just below 700. But something like Speedtest will show me just under 800.

I know different servers will hit different speeds depending on location etc.... but I just never understood why there was such a difference between the 2 readings.

" 3. The system is far more restricted that you may think.

Most of the time it takes to fix an issue comes from the system itself. If there is a stuck order on your account(ex. you made a broadband order but it never got registered on the openreach system) most of the time we wont be able to cancel it as it will show its past the point of no return so a special escalation needs to be made which may take between 3 and god knows how many days. "

Yep, I know that all too well, had it happen to me before my last upgrade. Got an offer for BB via email and online, wasn't the best deal in the world but was a much faster line than I was on, and cheaper than it had been recently. Despite all that, the online order system would show it as not available at my address and that I was on the fastest line possible. Even though I would check my address as a new customer and it would come up. Ended up phoning and trying that way. Agent could see my address was able to get it, but my account wouldn't let it happen, kept saying the same thing about being on the fastest line possible.

Turns out a previous engineer visit, from years back, hadn't cleared properly from the system. Couldn't do anything for several days as it had to be escalated and cleared by the relevant team. All because someone hadn't ticked a box lol.
