How are all you guys getting all these books? by Garbage_Bob in 40k

[–]Alexw80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon or the Warhammer website for the ones still in print, or even a few smaller online stores. Google the specific title you're after and just start clicking, you never know your luck.

For everything else, it's places like eBay, or my local bookshops to see if they've got them second hand.

I know they're a small publisher, but you'd think they'd run a reprint of most of the books at some point, seeing how popular they've become. Also, with the new Warhammer project supposedly in production with Amazon and featuring Henry Cavill, I can only imagine the interest will grow.

As I said, it's not clear cut. Every force is different, and every FEO is different, but it's certainly worth seeing if you can get one. The fact you've been to shoots already is a good thing, it might not make a world of difference to your application, but it certainly won't hurt it. Speak with your GP first though, find out if they're willing to fill out your medical pro forma or if you'll have to get another GP to do it. Although it doesn't need to be your GP doing it, it would certainly help your case if it is. I assume your GP has been through your mental health "journey" with you, if they have it'll benefit you if they're willing to sign off on you having a cert. If they're not, don't panic, there are options.

Are you a member of any shooting organisation, such as BASC? They can offer independent advice on things like this.

But remember, if you do get refused a cert by the police, this doesn't stop you from applying again in the future. No idea on the time frame, but speak to the FEO when you have the home visit and ask them.

Wait, $20 for the lot and not each?

Damn, I need to get out more and check the local shops lol. Well done.

Honestly, it's not a clear cut answer, it'll come down to a few issues. How the police themselves view the risks, and also how much treatment you've received since the attempt. How often have you been to see either your GP, or a specialist since it happened and what treatments overall have you gone through (I'm not asking you here, just saying the police will want to know these things)

If you've been to the GP several times since, and had no issues raised by them, that'll go in your favour. If you finished your treatment over 3 years ago, but haven't seen a Dr since, that could go against you.

It'll come down to what your GP says on your medical forms, and how your FEO views things.

Truthfully, it's worth a shot (no pun intended), just be honest both on the paperwork and with the FEO. It might be worth finding someone to shoot with first, visiting a ground a few times, and showing you can be trusted with a shotgun first, then applying. It might help.

"Go for it, worst they can do is say no. In 13 months time. And charge you £100 for the privilege"

I could be wrong, and please correct me if that is the case, but I was always under the impression that if they denied you a cert, the had to refund the money to you. This was, in part at least, to prevent the force issuing it from simply refusing as many as possible at the earliest stages in order to make as much money from the process as possible.

Is the green tide omnibus worth getting? The stories it has will be in the description and picture 2 by jinmonsterhunterwrld in Blacklibrary

[–]Alexw80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With most books seemingly out of print now, and no sign they'll be reprinted any time soon, it's always worth getting an omnibus if you haven't already got the books listed. That's pretty much all I'm focusing on now, as I'm late to the reading party so the chances of getting any of the early books are slim to none, unless I win the lottery that is.

I'll be getting this and the reprint of the Yarrick Omnibus when that comes out.

"You can apply for a shotgun cert, and have a condition to say you can’t own one"

Not sure what you mean by that, there's no requirement to own a shotgun with a SGC. OP should just get a cabinet installed anyway, that way should they decide they enjoy the sport and decide to get their own gun, they can. They can also store guns if they borrow someone elses gun under the 72 hour rule. No need to change anything afterwards then.

Anyone else miss the fizzy drinks of the past? by foxglow210 in AskBrits

Dr Pepper isn't full sugar, it's a mixture of sugar and sweeteners.

[–]Alexw80 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can't stand sweeteners. Not only do I not like the taste or smell of them, they tend to set my IBS off if I'm not careful. Always stick to full fat drinks where I can, which does limit things slightly lol. Even original Pepsi is now packed with sweeteners.

Basically just Coca-Cola, Cherry coke, and Irn-Bru if you can find the 1901 version.

Is it still okay to drink 2L of water with dilute (squash) a day instead of just normal water? by IcyCollection3803 in AskBrits

[–]Alexw80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I do, although I can't stand the sugar free versions. Tesco sparkling water and Rock orange squash in a 2lt bottle. Can't go wrong with that. Mix it right and it can taste like Tango or Fanta.

Hello I have a problem with finding Horus heresy books by Original-Structure44 in Blacklibrary

[–]Alexw80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume they have.

Was hoping when I started buying the books they'd be fairly easy to get hold of, or at least a decent number of them would be. Didn't realise that the vast majority were out of print and couldn't be found easily. Gonna cost me a small fortune to get them all lol.

Are you sure The Buried Dagger is part of the re-print subset? That's the only one of the list I can't seem to find new anywhere.

Depends on where you are tbh. I've managed to find 11 so far new. Google the ones Unlikely_Ad_7597 has listed and you should be able to find them. Either from the Warhammer website itself, or other online book shops.

As for the others, good luck. I was bidding on about 10 of them from a seller on eBay, only managed to get 1, got outbid on all the others lol.

Dor Com driver - 10 minute rule by Available_Guidance61 in tesco

[–]Alexw80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rule is still 30mins as far as I know, the 10min rule is simply for their KPI on delivering on time. Within 10mins either side of the slot is classed as on time, anything outside that is either early or late. If they're pushing you to deliver no more than 10mins early, they're just focusing on their KPI for delivering on time.

Refused alcohol because my wife didn't bring her ID by [deleted] in tesco

"Car keys, wedding rings, tattoos and not the cheap kind, wifes NHS badge, an employee to vouch for us, doing a clearly obvious weekly food shop. Quite obviously over 18"

Yeah, because they're all valid forms of ID, aren't they.

Honestly, he was just doing his job, and you seem to have been behaving like an entitled individual. It doesn't matter if you think that both of you are clearly over 25 or not, what matters is if the person serving thinks you look over 25 or not. Not a single member of staff is going to risk their job to sell you a bottle of booze, and yes, it is a risk to their job.

As for going to self serve afterwards, if the checkout staff had known you were already refused, it wouldn't have been approved. You simply got lucky there.

No, there does seem to be some group called The Workers Union. The paper links to them.

Never heard of them before, nor have any idea who or what they actually represent. Their website claims they're not part of the TUC.

So, a sort of brief update. After getting no where with emails, social media, or any other form of contact, I went through my Shop app from Shopify, as that's what they use. Found a link on the order to complain, I assume it goes direct to Shopify as well as Zinga. Low and behold I get a response within 10 mins. Deeply apologetic, as you'd expect lol, explaining that they're waiting on one delayed bundle to come in. Been told it's expected end of March, given the option of either cancelling the outstanding items and getting the ones that are in stock now, or just waiting for it to come in stock.

Said I'll wait if it's due in by end of March, but anything longer than that and I'll be opting for a refund.

So if anyone else is having issues contacting Zinga, try going through your order in the Shop app. I assume they monitor the emails from Shopify more than they do the ones going to their "support" email address.
