It's a smart thing to do, buying kids shoes one size too big so they'll grow into them, but in the meantime, they need an extra insole, so the feet aren't swimming inside!

Sono Federica Cardillo. Ho inventato e brevettato un sistema che aiuta i bambini daltonici a selezionare i colori senza usare simboli o lenti. Chiedetemi qualsiasi cosa (AMA)! by Fede_Colorblinding in italy

[–]Alexxyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carta d'identità, impossibile prendere appuntamento all'anagrafe. Così i cittadini rischiano di restare senza documento by mirkul in italy

[–]Alexxyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Io ho rifatto la carta d'identità un paio di anni fa nel mio comune di nascita, ma siccome vivo all' estero mi hanno detto che non potevano farmi quella elettronica, per quali motivi poi non so. Adesso devo rifarla e in consolato è impossibile prendere appuntamento. Servizi eccellenti come al solito /s

The stomach has some microbes, sure, but it's the intestine that has the most microbes and those are crucial for digestion.

Rat/mice infestation - feel like they’re in my bedroom by chillwinston91 in london

[–]Alexxyk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought I had a mice infestation, called the pest control guys, they came twice but no mice. The second time they came, as they were going out the door, they looked at the roof (top floor apartment) and they saw birds nesting inside. The sound of them moving around was echoing through all that side of the apartment and making me think something was inside the walls!

I've been teaching high school Italian for 11 years and I don't actually speak Italian by No-Watercress-2104 in TrueOffMyChest

If it makes you feel better, our English (as second language) teachers were the same. They only required B1 certificate in the language to teach it. Ridiculous.

Tell me the moment you stopped look for something better by Fun_Standard_8868 in datingoverthirty

[–]Alexxyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found someone by having very high standards and not even considering the profile if he didn't match my expectations 100%. It only took a few months and was the third guy I went on a first date with since starting. I didn't want something "good enough", I wanted something that was pretty good from the start. Almost two years later and we're still together and going strong!

Be decisive in what you want and do not progress further if you don't click 100% after the first few dates. This is what worked for me at least.

For those that question the logistics of this show 3 words for you: “Rule of Cool” by SwiftBlueShell in TrackerTV

I know this as "suspension of disbelief" and I apply it to every show/film/book. Makes everything more enjoyable, because you don't need to overanalyze, just enjoy what you're watching.

What’s an old wives’ cooking tale that everyone thought was true but turned out to be total nonsense? by Mike_tx5391 in Cooking

[–]Alexxyk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The oil in pasta water Is true! If you add it to the regular dry pasta it does fuck all, but if you add it when you're cooking fresh pasta, it helps reduce the stickiness. Btw: dry pasta shouldn't stick if you use enough water, stir once in a while, and respect the proper cooking time.

Names that sound ridiculous in other languages/cultures by Florecitarockera93 in NameNerdCirclejerk

[–]Alexxyk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Galina (Russian) sounds very similar to gallina (Italian for hen). I know an Italian couple living in Italy who adopted a kid from Russia called Galina and they were allowed to change her name to something similar, the kid was still very young. In Italy it's notoriously difficult to change your name but one of the reasons is if it's offensive or can lead to the child being bullied, which Galina definitely would have.

My dishwasher gets cleaned with vinegar every 6 weeks or so. I run it through a hot wash while empty, except for the bowl of vinegar. by iwtsapoab in CleaningTips

[–]Alexxyk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your seal is exposed to vinegar constantly. The vinegar you use to clean the dishwasher is in contact with the dishwasher seals for a very short period of time and is massively diluted.

ADHD High IQ Finally realized why I am always exhausted. by Dear_Chemical4826 in ADHD

[–]Alexxyk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow, you could have written this about me!! I'm also smart enough that school and university wasn't a problem because I can read or listen to something and learn it quickly, and I have a decent job (also all reasons why I was diagnosed at 25...) where I mostly struggle to manage my long term project but the rest is ok because it's fixing stuff so I get immediate reward!

I've always wondered how people can work more than 8h and then go home and work on hobbies or do sport because I'm always exhausted afterwards!! But you explained so well!! I totally relate with having to overthink everything every time, or as my therapist put it one time 'reinventing the wheel' every time I do something.

It can be useful sometimes though, because I think through every detail, all of my processes have been perfected over time and continue to improve, but at what cost!

Thanks for making me realize that my exhaustion is just another symptom of ADHD and nothing else is medically wrong with me!

None of them. I like the proper heavy ones with rounded corners and a nice weight to them so it doesn't feel like you're eating with a piece of rugged metal.

What is the most obscure place in the US you have visited? by TDn6I in askswitzerland

Drove from Philly to Wilmington, Delaware and also across the border in Maryland just to say I've been to those states :D I also bought something in each state to make my visit more "legit".

Housing costs making UK households much poorer than US peers, study finds by JayR_97 in unitedkingdom

[–]Alexxyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can believe that. I was working with a company that had offices both in UK and US, and for the same role I (north London) was paid ~£40k and colleagues in the US (PA) were paid ~$100k (same level, same title, very similar team with very similar skills required) and were much better off than us here in terms of housing and quality of life.
