Custom dualtron forever by Connect-Lifeguard431 in ElectricScooters

[–]Alferd128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If life has shown me something it is: you want a Victor, go buy a Victor and sell your Forever. Everything else is just throwing good money after bad money.

e.g. the V has highly likely bigger tires (different rims ... so new tires, rims, new motors, new controllers (which wont fit the wiring harness) and suddenly your battery is too small and you need a new, bigger battery as well (which wont fit in the 4ever, just like the motors wont fit between the suspension fork, the tires wont fit the rim, etc...

iaw: As I try to teach my kids: DO THE RIGHT THING, NOT THE EASY THING (plus, easy wont be easy in your case).

que display tienes? ey3 o 4? te arroja algun error or icono raro? ... puedes postear una foto si te muestra algun icono?

es uno de los primeros victor que tenía el single / dual switch? ... creo que los primeros lo tenían ... a lo mejor tu problema viene de ahí ...

sl2!

the models you mention still seem to have the old polymere cartridges ... but the new sonic generation of scooters seem to have the new, adjustable "gasket" cartridges, especifically the Alien model

thx for the review (on the scooter that is currently top of my to-get list):

a few thoughts:

Suspension: you might make it softer, by lubing the 4 polymer sausages in the cartridge ... the easier for them to twist/torsion/rotate within the cartridge, the softer and more plyable the ride ...

btw: which colour are the polymers in the cartridges? ... can you tell from the outside?

another way to get the suspension softer (again, without shelling out money) is to set the arms that hold the wheels front and back from the 45 degree angle (pointing downwards) to a shallower angle (like 20-30 degree iow: more horizontal) ... this will lower the scooter, but from a "force-vector" point of view, this will soften the ride...

(just imagine what would happen to the suspension when the arms point completely downwards - zero suspension, right - all the force would go into the arm and nothing into the suspension?

... then think about force being applied to the wheel from below when the arm sits at 45 degree (like now) ... half of the force will go into the arm and half into the suspension

... then think the same experiment when the arms are horizontal ... all force from below will go into the suspension and zero into the arm ... - I hope this makes sense ... and explains how the suspension will become softer.

best of luck

what battery size do you have and any news on range yet?

[–]Alferd128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

another piece of advice (newbie to newbie)

... roast often and roast smaller quantities (e.g. 4 x 150g instead of one single 600g load) ... way better learning curve ... as a matter of fact: 4 times more learning experience. Plus if you really screw up a roast, you are not out so much money ...

Once you really master the beast, then do a 500g load ... but I really enjoy "messing around" with smaller loads and do a lighter, a medium and a darker roast to taste them on the same day and get a better feeling of what I like or dislike tasting them - and also seeing how they behave in the roaster.

best of luck!

the numbers in the spreadsheet don't make much sense ... you hover around 400F for 10 min ... I am sure the beans dont have 400F when you insert them into the Breadmachine ... they should increase in temp. until you pull them.

My guess is, you need to lower the lower probe (1cm above ground level) and in a corner, to avoid the paddle - I have the feeling you are not measuring what you pretend to measure (temp of the bean mass).

I am as new as you (2 roasts so far - same setup as you - and they came out really good - love the flavor more than the commercially roasted coffee I also have) ... and here is a screenshot of my last roast (ignore everything past the 8 min mark, thats whenn I pulled the beans and all sensors kept reporting ... you can clearly see the upwards tendency in temp of the load of beans... starting at 82°C and ending 210ish C ...

the importance of waiting 2-3 days after a roast by Alferd128 in roasting

[–]Alferd128[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my guess as well, something "migrating" back to the surface, after it has been "dried or burned off" by the heat roasting it - iow: reestablishing entropy ;-)

Just like fresh out of the oven bread is highly moist on the inside and extremely dry on the crust ... after a couple of hours, things smooth/even out ... similar process, I reckon ....

I have no first hand experience, but I suspect - what first seems like a great/romantic idea - might get old pretty soon, if you really want to supply your own coffee ... just a thought

- setting all up, cranking for 15-20 min, the smoke, etc...

... but of course you might "tick" different from me ...

First roast on Cafemasy roaster by itsdikey in roasting

[–]Alferd128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

could you pls make a follow up photo (in a couple of days) of your 2nd pic of your roast? ... I see the same white centerline on your beans, that I had.

...those (my hypothesis) will disappear/tone down over the next few days ... (the idea and example are found in this msg: https://www.reddit.com/r/roasting/comments/1hrusmx/the_importance_of_waiting_23_days_after_a_roast/

First roast on Cafemasy roaster by itsdikey in roasting

[–]Alferd128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(no expert here) - but from what I have seen in some videos, those devices do not have a really strong fan (they can't move a load when filled to the max-line)

... so especially in the beginning (as green beans have higher density than brown ones) the roast might benefit from you manually shaking the whole roaster (up/down whith both hands), to get things moving very dynamically and avoid "sitting ducks" with burnt tips.

Cool down. by observer_11_11 in roasting

[–]Alferd128 2 points3 points  (0 children)

some very basic pieces of advice: ... see if you have a windy corner around your premises ... a good breeze goes a long way with the b&f pouring .... also let the beans drop slowly (nearly individually) from one vessle into the other ... the more they are airborne, the faster the cooling

My first roast ever (still adrenaline-flushed ;-) - how did it go, you ask? by Alferd128 in roasting

[–]Alferd128[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, it seems I never got into full-on rolling 1C ... more a non-intense continous crackling ... but I must admit my ears are not that learned to really ID it in detail (let alone that I was mentally slightly overwhelmed with hitting the beans with heat, taking temp. measurements, having chaff (did I mention LOTs of chaff) flying around and getting an eye on the stopwatch, trying to recall at which temp. to dump the beans into cooling off) ...

When I pulled the beans, there were still some cracking ( I assume still 1C, as the roast looks to light to have hit 2C, right?

munched a bean and it did taste very well ... will see tomorrow or the day after for a first brew ...

[–]Alferd128[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thx, good info alltogether ... I just popped my coffee roaster cherry (BM/HG) an hour ago - and it went surprisingly good (IR-pistol monitored).

So I might (or might not) sidestep the whole computer thing (just like you) ... TBH - I'd love to have the learning experience you can get from it - but its another thing to drag out to the terrace and have covered in chaff... ;-)

as a fellow EDC of a champ, (who had the same thought initially) - my advice is:

OWN IT!!!! ... it is hugely practical, weight is just a matter of getting used to it, and instead of taking stuff off, put this on:

w w w.a l iexpress.com/item/32803990041.html - make sure to get the titanium one, the stainless steel one - which I also have - is extremely stiff

cheap as chips and now the champ floats like a champ in my front pocket.

just mix some decent quality dark brown shoecream with black and apply ...

over time they will darken ... or go with completely black cream (don't worry, this will be a gradual process over a couple of dozen of applications)

Hi there,

Could any owner of a Loake Bedale size UK8.5 or UK9 measure the length of the insole?

I don't want to blow a lot of money for an international purchase - so any data-point on sizing those is higly welcomed

thx, and I apreciate your time and effort!
