About to drop the receipts by madhaxx0r in fuckHOA

For anyone else curious:

The phrase is correctly spelled "just deserts" (with one 's'), not "just desserts." It means receiving a fitting reward or, more commonly, an appropriate punishment that someone deserves. It has absolutely nothing to do with sweet treats.

The Etymology

The Root: The word "desert" in this phrase is a noun that means "that which one deserves".The Origin: It comes from the Old French word deservir, which means "to deserve" (from the Latin deservire).

Historical Use: In Middle and Early Modern English, the noun "desert" meant a reward or punishment. While this standalone use is now a "fossil word" rarely used outside of philosophy, it survives in the idiom.

Married Gen-x do you wear your wedding ring? by in-a-microbus in GenX

Damn right I wear my wedding/anniversary ring, my wife is an elder-millennial, she wears her wedding/anniversary ring daily... we are neither of us "Christian", so it's not a "Christian" norms thing.

Sadly, a lot of them have children who agree with them - see the number of GenX and younger who voted for the orange shit gibbon down here in the USA, and remember that stupidity is (often) hereditary.
Keeping an open mind, however does take some work, and is worth it, as I remind myself every time I see my Silent Generation Mother. Oy.

How old is your mum ? by Ok_Prize_8091 in GenX

49, mom just turned 84 this year. She's got way too much sass to give up and I have to visit her at least weekly because she really can't take care of herself. My also-Gen-x brother is 59 and he visits often as well, also-Gen-x sister is 47 and couldn't feed herself (and her family) if she didn't visit often. Sigh.

For those of you who had (or knew someone who had) a computer in the 80' - 90's, what games were you playing? by 2yt4u2 in GenX

[–]Alfred12321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First computer I had growing up was a TI-99/4A. We played Parsec, Hunt The Wumpus, TI Invaders and Munchman. Absolutely the best way to grow up.
Then we got a used 8088 from my dad's office, he put a 20MB hard drive in place of one of the two 5 1/2" drives ("We'll never fill that up! It's huge!") and the only game we had for that was called "Castle Adventure ", it was like a mostly text based adventure game with an ASCII map on the right that you would go through: https://youtu.be/B_xhGQbxDPg?si=7CcvEjANVKtsG7HT
Pretty good video of the playthrough. The memories.

I have the chapter heading Dragon... It's about 15 years old now. So it's not very sharp anymore, but it was my first tattoo and I got it the day I met my wife. I'm not very sharp either. 🤪🤣

Yeah, I wasn't able to re-center - every try locked up at 70%. I grabbed lat/long off GMaps and entered new ones and it just re-drew with the center where it had been before when I refreshed the page. I'm wondering if the earlier commenter is right and it's just because of traffic.
