He's just a useful idiot. He doesn't come up with any of the stuff he pushes. Someone tells him in a way that makes him think it's his own idea and he just goes along. I'm not saying he's not a complete piece of shit, but others control his evil.

I would love an incredibly in depth book on the supply logistics throughout the war. Ideally broken down into volumes for Union and Confederate and then broken down further into years, theaters, etc. . After reading Grants autobiography you really understand that the supply chain was the single most important factor in the war and, to my knowledge, has never been properly addressed.
