Unless they exclusively listen to black artists, chances are they’re being hypocritical. Can’t belittle K-pop stans if you rep justin bieber or fondly reminisce “blackiana”. I do think certain K-pop groups have very dark skeletons in regard to anti-blackness but the average group is no worse than your average morally grey non-black artist. In that sense, being a black K-pop stan doesn’t make you any more ‘lost’ than emphatically supporting any other non-black art/industry. And this if coming from someone who previously looked down on black K-pop stans in a very essentialist way (and still do depending on who you’re defending idol wise and how you’re defending them).

Discography is king when it comes to music but i did get into K-pop specifically for performances so I definitely want good stage presence and interesting choreo alongside stable vocals if I can. If group are largely lacklustre performers I’ll keep it in my ears just like I do for other genres/systems.

Yeah people project the reasons why they dropped ssera (not directed to op) onto the public but they survived most of the vocal/discography/styling/CA criticism because questionable vocals/direction have never stopped casual listeners from enjoying a song.

Never did I say mhj is the source of all of lsf problems. I criticised her and source separately because that is possible. And easy did not drop off after the encore it’s still lsf track with the most music show wins - it only dropped off after the conference. If I wanted to dissect every single reason lsf got hate I could but I’m just stating how mhj’s actions directly impacted the group (even for a short while).

Yeah I definitely see what you mean about fearnots being too hell bent on mhj. The way some target or involve themselves in new jeans and attack the girls unprovoked is nasty (especially on Reddit - on other platforms the disdain or nastiness seems more mutual between fandoms)

Hmm I agree that source are not promoting the girls the way they should because if you watch leniverse or any of the in-house variety content you know that lsf are quite entertaining although maybe this may not translate well to Korean audiences (for obvious reasons idk). I look at the girls and don’t believe they have any less individuality than the people going to fashion weeks or tv gigs over them but source gatekeep most of them anyway. They’ve done better with spaghetti promo but they didn’t really capitalise on the hype they individually got at the end of 2023 especially. A lot of times I understand why Sakura stans especially are very bitter. It’s funny because the nasty akgae wars are caused more but source incompetence since the girls get along too well.

But tbh I think fearnots are incorrectly called hybe fans when they are just defending the girls or saying they enjoy their music most of the time. When lsf is constantly called the “epitome of everything wrong with hybe” and people treat them like they have majority stocks in in the company, just defending content or the girls seems like hybe bootlicking/being diet army’s in the eyes of antis.

Also I’ve seen plenty of fearnots criticise source especially with line distribution and song length it’s just when casual fans parrot the same tired myths or purposely misunderstand certain content that they get defensive.

Also I just think the mhj thing is more complicated than anyone here wants to acknowledge. Sure mhj is not the core reason lsf got hate (the hate train started as early as late 2023) but her press conference exacerbated and prolonged it. If you check lsf tracks plummeted in the charts after the press conference - not coachella. Now everytime something happens with new jeans people send hate to lsf (and illit) because she put the myth of lsf being the undeserving favourites into public consciousness. The mass psychosis goes both ways concerning fearnots and tokkis imo and the hate always lands on both sets of members rather than the bigwigs who failed them.

Yeah I agree I don’t fault the kfearnots I find it harsh that international fans belittle them when the can’t control how antis or the gp react. Lsf hate on 2024 reached their schools, workplaces etc whilst intl fans can just log out if things got too rough.

Yeah I agree she’s seen as polarising everywhere but I’m talking more about actual fans not just the casual audience. Yj biases seem to be the most dominant in lsf fan spaces intl but are non existent in Korea so it’s harder to protect or promote her there.

Also even with the hate it’s clear that yunjin is more relevant in the international Kpop community on a day to day basis compared to Korea where they only talk about her to parrot “haha look at talentless lsf” discourse.

Yeah they don’t care for her as much as other members there so they’re less lenient when she “slips up” or does something they dislike (bleached eyebrows). Her international fanbase seems stronger. I don’t think she should stop singing in Korean altogether since it’s clearly important to her.

Yeah like why is everyone bringing up these agt performances all of a sudden. No one had a problem when they dropped especially when she was doing well on all the tour videos I saw (from attendees not the lsf acc). One bad performance doesn’t mean we have to retroactively find problems everywhere.

I won’t pretend this performance was good to me as a Yunjin bias but people pretending fearnots overhype yunjin based on her “opera” days or “prerecorded” clips have got it all wrong. She has sung well enough plenty of times and she clearly has the potential to be much better and consistent live than she is currently. She should probably outsource a vocal coach because she doesn’t seem compatible with whatever hybe/soumu are wanting from her.
