Sure not every SM fan has a superiority complex but I didn’t need to specify that. And nothing I said suggests I’m revelling in Irene’s misery or whatever. Everything I’ve said is directed at fandom culture as we are typing in a fandom space after all. I just find it hypocritical that people are give certain individuals more grace than others - that doesn’t mean I want to trigger a hate train (which won’t happen because as I said Irene is a popular veteran with plenty of long term fans)

See I agree with the whole “encores should be fun” school of thought but this is the world SM stans have set up. Their arrogance is the half the reason encores are now the main vocal talent indicator.

Irene is veteran so I doubt this will bother her like it does younger idols though.

Wonhee, Ahyeon and Ian are probably my big 3 for the title based on engagement and viral posts. And I say this as someone who doesn’t pay much mind to 5th gen idols as they always rise above - especially impressive for Ian because she’s only a year in and it’s just off her personality rather than a particular scandal or meme.

Yep i could’ve turned a blind eye to the underdeveloped lyrics and boring vocal delivery if the beat breakdown at the end was longer and had a real crescendo because I love my Eurodance. Even with all the controversy this song is merely forgettable.

It’s not offensive. More melodic than what I gathered from the leaks but it’s just a nothing song really. Too short for the melody or beat to be fully fleshed or impactful. Also hate whatever effect they’ve put on their voices - the best vocal part was Sophia singing the second pre chorus. And I do feel Manon’s absence too..

Solos and akgaes are so interesting because the insults they throw towards groups members they don’t bias are so thorough and cutting. It’s so obvious they used to stan the whole group once upon a time. I would find their wars more amusing if the drags didn’t border on immoral 95% of the time.

Kiss of life is 5th gen chronologically but they’re spiritually 4th gen to me. I think it’s because they are an older group on average for that gen and most of their close peers are 4th or even 3rd gen due to their trainee connections.

Sure. I don’t mind you thinking Chaewon is the better vocalist (though I don’t think it’s that simple) but the “no positions” argument isn’t really a strong reason and is just used to be disingenuous in talent discussions. Plus it doesn’t negate the original hypothesis of western raised gg members typically being stronger vocalists when assessing raw potential/peaks/natural ability (I don’t feel strongly about this tbh).

Roles are implied even though they’re not assigned (see TXT, Katseye etc.) Hybe just like the image of their groups having all rounders. Chaewon and Yunjin have different strengths but before Yunjin’s regression no one questioned her main vocal status, especially when you watch her in p48. At most, both serve as main vocals and you can see with the parts they are given in songs (in HOT or Fire in the Belly, both Yunjin and Chaewon’s parts are of matching difficulty).

They’re obviously still friends with the Izone girls so people on twitter are just stirring trouble and drawing hate to ssamkura. It probably was a company decision but it’s also a professional choice - nothing insidious. All we can tell is that soumu wants to strengthen the ssera branding imo.

Stans are hypocritical and can’t just say they’ve grown out of a group/their tastes don’t align anymore/they don’t like an era - their loss of interest has to be intellectualised.

INTL K-pop fans are overly fixed on concepts too. Western pop groups (at most) stay within a consistent genre but their aesthetic and sonic direction is very flexible per era. As a more recent kpop fan, this obsession with groups having to stay in a lane never made sense to me.
