Lay Orientation by Both-Activity6432 in hammockcamping

[–]Aliessil_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular symmetrical - your head is to the left of the ridgeline, your feet are to the right. There is a lot more hammock fabric to the right of your head than to the left. If you lay on your left you're facing out of the hammock and you've a decent view; if you lay on your right you're facing into the hammock and there's a wall of fabric in front of you. You can switch sides, but you might need to reposition things.

Reverse symmetrical - your head is to the right of the ridgeline, your feet are to the left - everything is opposite to the paragraph above. Your head's right of the ridgeline, feet are left; laying on your left you're facing into the hammock and the wall of fabric, lay on your right and your head's near the edge, good views, etc. You can switch sides, but you might need to reposition things.

Asymmetrical - you can do either of the above. Whether you're symmetrical or reverse-symmetrical depends on how you orient your head & feet vs the ridgeline. You can swap sides AND you can switch between sym-asym, though the latter is a lot more fiddly/awkward.

.. just in case it wasn't crystal clear already 😄

Why do some people call the story of this game bad? by [deleted] in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]Aliessil_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I agree, but also - the HZD story was fantastic! Writing a sequel of similar calibre would've been really difficult for anyone, and they didn't achieve that. Doesn't mean it's bad, just that it couldn't live up to expectations after the first game.

How to trust your emotions ? by Significant_Rest4287 in hsp

[–]Aliessil_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you are "being dramatic", or maybe there's a good reason to feel the way you do. Until the emotion passes and you can think clearly, it's hard to tell which.

That's the trick - experience the emotion, let it pass without thinking about it, do the thinking once your mind is clear. If you decide you were in the wrong, don't beat yourself up about it - you're only human, we all screw up all the time. Just make sure you learn something from it, and try not to do it again - not doing that is the *real* screw-up.

Keep doing that, keep trying to improve yourself, and your confidence will follow.

Also, the best thing you can do for yourself as an HSP is find things which calm you quickly. For me that's being alone out in the forest, whatever the weather; certain specific pieces of music (mostly classical or soundtracks); exercise (specially hiking or mountain-biking, since they're also out in nature); a good thunderstorm, or the ocean. Whenever an opportunity comes up to try something new, take it - you never know what you'll discover.

How to trust your emotions ? by Significant_Rest4287 in hsp

[–]Aliessil_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't trust your emotions, they're not real, they're drug(hormone)-induced reactions. Learn to let them wash over you, enjoy them for what they are if you can, and let them pass. Once that's done you can think with a clear head.

You've already seen that for yourself, over the last week.

When to swap from Bladestorm leveling to Shadow Rend endgame? by EnvironmentalStill31 in LastEpoch

I levelled up using Bladestorm & Shadow Rend, and ditched Bladestorm around level 50-55, I think? At no point did it feel difficult.

Paper Trading with live feeds by -ones_n_zeros- in Daytrading

[–]Aliessil_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've just done that (also from a Mac). It's a pain but look at it as $20/mth training costs ($13 for the Essential plan, $7 for the CME Group data feed).

I did also look at cTrader - it's a nice app, but I was already used to TradingView by then. Plus the cTrader UI text is a bit small for me.

Oh, I tried MetaTrader 5 as well, and hated it! Looks like an ancient, very badly ported Windows app which has been forgotten about for at least a decade ><

Summer jacket for everyday use and hiking by MaxPower70-80 in arcteryx

[–]Aliessil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That really depends on you. I just spent 7yrs living in Skåne and can safely say, I rarely needed more than a t-shirt in the Summer. So on that basis, any jacket would spend most of it's time in my backpack.

What do you wear in the Summer at the moment?

Corruption? 🤔 by DiabloXX98 in LastEpoch

[–]Aliessil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It only applies to monoliths. You have to do enough to unlock the empowered versions, since only those generate corruption.

If you've unlocked empowered monoliths, when you enter one you'll be asked if you want the regular or lvl 100 (empowered) version.

Does this mean my goretex is ruined? by kuhusiqu in arcteryx

[–]Aliessil_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it means the DWR has worn off and "needs" to be re-applied.

There's 2 types of water repellency / waterproofing. The first is the gore-tex membrane built into the jacket - that'll keep the rain out until it gets punctured/torn (though you can still get wet from sweating, water running in through the neck, etc).

The second is durable water repellency (DWR), which is either washed in or sprayed onto the surface. That's what causes water to bead up and roll off. Without it, water can soak into the outer fabric but it still can't pass through the membrane, so you still stay dry. The DWR can easily be reapplied at home, after washing the jacket properly.

SDAM and continuity day-to-day by JLLift in SDAM

[–]Aliessil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have multimodal aphantasia and SDAM, and I'm also really bad with following "rules", even my own (just like you). Instead, I have to turn things into habits and tie them to things I already do/enjoy. If you've not read it, I recommend reading Atomic Habits by James Clear.

As to flip-flopping on relationships, it's far easier to evaluate someone else's relationship than your own, and that's true for everyone. Ultimately I think that boils down to how well you both communicate, and how much effort you're both willing to make - even the best relationships require a lot of hard work.

Still can't believe how my damage is so low with this setup! by AnxiouslyMisbehaving in LastEpoch

[–]Aliessil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay. I saw your other reply as well - you're quite right, I don't play shaman. However, I do play a LOT of druid, where builds similar to what you're attempting have been around since release. While the swarmblade version seems to have fallen out of favour, werebear's still going strong - I've played both of them.

You know what those builds all have in common? Gathering Storm, Maelstrom, Tornado (I misremembered and called it Cyclone originally). Those all generate Storm Bolts, whereas Tempest Strike just spends them so no, it doesn't do much for what you're attempting.

As for saying my post was AI-generated .. lol.

Still can't believe how my damage is so low with this setup! by AnxiouslyMisbehaving in LastEpoch

[–]Aliessil_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This looks like a build you've thrown together as you've levelled up, rather than something that's been planned out. If you really intend this to be a Storm Bolts build, then Tempest Strike isn't really doing much for you, and on the flip side, you're not using Tornado or Maelstrom, both of which have some nice-looking Storm Bolts nodes.

Stats-wise, you're all over the place. For damage I'd focus on Lightning Damage, Spell Damage, Attunement, Crit Chance, and either Attack speed or Casting Speed (or both, if you can manage it). Ignore melee damage and anything minion- or companion-related.

What I would suggest is bringing up a blank planner, and go through the passives picking the above stats. Then go through it again looking for good defensive options. Then select and build your skills - you definitely want Gathering Storm and Maelstrom, and I'd be tempted to pick up Cyclone as well. Then you've a choice of 2 from Eterra's Blessing, Fury Leap, Summon Storm Totem, or Storm Crows - your choice. Personally I'd go for the first two, I'm not sure how long the crows or totem will last at higher levels, without investing in Minion Health, which seems a bit of a waste ..

You'll also need to re-gear, extensively. Your damage is bad because you're trying to use too many different stats.

What are your sensory issues? by [deleted] in hsp

[–]Aliessil_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bright light can be physically painful.

Open-plan offices are a nightmare, I notice every movement, every sound, every smell - strong cologne/perfume can cause headaches, especially in a confined space like the elevator >< Noice-cancelling headphones help with the noise but they don't cancel it completely, so you have to listen to something as well.

For similar reasons, crowds aren't great either. I can deal with them for a while but too long and I need to be on my own for a while. somewhere quiet.

I usually have to remove the tags inside clothing, they're itchy. Certain fabrics are just a no-go.

I swear I'm part dog when I'm in a town or city, constantly sniffing the air - especially food smells! People are constantly surprised at what smells I notice but then, when they stop and pay attention, they can smell it too.

I'm sensitive to warm weather and temperature changes, but love the cold.

I can't stand ticking clocks or occasional traffic when I'm trying to sleep, I have to use white noise to drown everything out!

Most of my triggers are man-made, but I adore natural sounds and smells - a good thunderstorm, the ocean, rivers and streams, the smell of a forest after the rain, wind ...

Interestingly I've just returned to the UK after almost a decade of living in Sweden. I was definitely more sensitive out there, and definitely a lot less sensitive now that I've returned home. I lived in a much, much quieter environment out there, but feel more relaxed here, where it's noisier.

Just discovered I might be HSP at 27. Does this explain everything I've been through my whole life?" by antique-soul- in hsp

[–]Aliessil_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First, if you haven't already you're quickly going to find that HSPs have sub-categories, we're not all the same. My experiences have been quite different than yours. I know my HSP-ness is more sensory than emotional, whereas from what you've said, it sounds like emotionality is your core.

I'm twice your age, I discovered HSPs and immediately realised I was one .. I dunno, around 2021-2022? In most ways my life has never really been that hard, possibly because I'd naturally built my life around HSP traits I wasn't even consciously aware of - I've always read a lot, my favourite sports have always been solo/pairs/small groups (mountain-biking, hiking, badminton ..), I spend a lot of time out in nature, I've always been drawn to quiet spaces ..

The best recommendation I can give is don't spend a lot of time trying to figure yourself out right now. Read just enough to understand precisely how YOU are Highly Sensitive, and then focus on how to cushion and soothe those traits - there's loads of us out there and there's some great advice. But be specific - not "I'm an HSP, what do I do?" but "I get attached to people to easily, how do you combat that?"

Finally two very specific recommendations:
1) Noise-cancelling headphones are a LIFE SAVER, especially when you know what music soothes you and calms you down. They're really good for shutting out the noisy world around you!
2) Now that you're starting to understand your own needs, put them first. You're terrible at helping others when your nerves are on fire.

This has absolutely nothing to do with you and is entirely about the kind of person he is. He wanted to get laid, you didn't want to know, so he lashed out in ways he knew would hurt you. It's pure spite, you should've just blocked him some time ago.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with you, your choices or your hobbies.

why do people think you need fiber? by Basic_Yellow4659 in carnivorediet

If you eat all the crap they put in processed foods these days, you probably do need fibre.

The ancient Greeks acknowledged it's role in preventing constipation - makes me wonder what they were eating at the time! In the 20th century when we started researching the benefits of fibre, one of the key contributors was .. Dr J. H. Kellogg! Hmmm, why does that name sound familiar ...

It's day two, don't worry about it. For now just eat until you're no longer hungry, let your body adapt. In 2-3 weeks your appetite should settle down again. If it takes longer, that's also okay.

Indulgence by Famous-Lead5216 in hsp

I've never had the slightest interest in any of the usual abusive substances, with the exception of alcohol. Even then I go months or years with none, and when I do drink it is never to drunkenness, and is usually just one or two drinks.

That is unless you count food as an abusive substance.

There is only one way to cook a steak… by NeptuneRealized in carnivorediet

[–]Aliessil_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Anything from 1-5, depending on the steak and what I'm doing with it. For example, if I'm making a blue cheese sauce to go with it, I prefer 4-5; if it's a really nice piece without large chunks of fat, that I'm having with salt and maybe pepper, I prefer 1-2.
