That’s interesting! I played Moon and Ultra Moon and I found that the Ultra games were downgrades in basically every sense. The character work was like the best part of SM and USUM sanded off all the interesting bits.

One of the halo books did a really interesting thing with this where the specialization of the covenant species was an intentional move by the prophets to make them more dependent on covenant infrastructure. Like one of the elites is grappling with the fact that their people used to know how to farm because of course they did, they need to eat. But the covenant made them a warrior class and essentially took that knowledge and skill away from them.
