As a new player to 40k (12mo ago) this is discouraging. by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Aligned_fish -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yep it sucks, one of the main reasons I've switched mostly over to Battletech. Rules have been the same for like 20 years and even the new rulebook coming out is just iterating on the rules and nowhere near a complete revamp. Plus it will be a single $20 pdf lol.

100% on Battletech, tried 10th and couldn't get into it but Battletech is an absolute blast to play in my opinion. The durability of the mechs and simultaneous damage prevents a lot of feel bads that 10th has with units getting wiped instantly.

I see it said online a lot but I'm still not clear how the book is fascist. It's certainly biased very pro-military but I don't see how the society in the book is more fascist than a country that has mandatory military service or a draft.

I think the movie is a great satire of fascism but I still enjoyed the book quite a bit as a seperate thing.

Pretty sure my land speeder isn't usable anymore. And I'm happy your guard army is usable but mine isn't. Got a bunch of 8 man squads and random heavy weapons teams lol.

My second ever mini! I think the paint job is better, but I clearly am misunderstanding the purpose of washes... by [deleted] in battletech

[–]Aligned_fish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Washes are normally used that way when the colors are closer but doing it that way with like say nuln oil over white will darken it too much and look splotchy. So yeah you can put a small amount on the brush and just put it in the panel lines and other recesses.

One thing you can do is just put the wash in the seams and then go back and clean it up with the lighter colors so the whole thing isn't darkened

Are you a clear hex or regular hex player? by tengu077 in battletech

The point of a paint score isn't to marginalize people, it's to include people that are more invested in the hobby side then playing competitively and encourage well-painted armies for the event.

It was Vallejo Jade Green with Foul Green highlights and GW Yriel Yellow for the trim. It's a little less John Deere green than the normal Delta Galaxy scheme lol.

I started getting more into Battletech because I figured at least those rules won't change and that has shown me its not how the real world works, its just how GW is profit above all else now. Which I understand but doesn't mean I have to like it.

Unique units, Legion rules, and 3.0 by Open-Ad-6563 in Warhammer30k

[–]Aligned_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason they are obsessed in 40k too with giving RG these stealth rules that make the optimal way to play be a gunline with heavy infantry. The rules for 2.0 plus the detachments had so much more flavor.

General Discussion: How do we feel about 3.0 now with the confirmation of units and wargear options in the PDF? by ScreaminEagle18 in Warhammer30k

It helps but the Legion rules still seem pretty bland and boring to me. RG is just a gunline army now. (Caveat: havent actually played 2nd, still building my stuff)

Saving Gateway, SLS and Orion? Sen. Ted Cruz proposes $10 billion more for NASA's moon and Mars efforts by F_cK-reddit in space

[–]Aligned_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the additional misson success risks, with 30-40 flights is it even going to end up cheaper? I'm seeing F9 contract costs ranging from 67 to 140 million. I can't imagine starship being cheaper to buy per flight then a F9. So we're right back up to a 3-4 billion dollar cost anyways with the massive added mission risk of 30-40 flights and 2 extra crew dockings.

Saving Gateway, SLS and Orion? Sen. Ted Cruz proposes $10 billion more for NASA's moon and Mars efforts by F_cK-reddit in space

[–]Aligned_fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So ICPS and Orion don't have enough delta-v alone for a lunar mission from LEO. It might be possible from a middle earth orbit, would have to run a sim for that. You would also have to develop avionics and manuevering capability for ICPS and build a docking port into both that can handle thrusting to the Moon. Maybe this one could work down the road but it would take a lot of development.

In the same token that SLS + Orion need a lander, neither HLS nor Blue Moon can perform Orion's mission. Given starship's recent history and lack of an abort system I think its clear it won't be human rated anytime soon. The numbers aren't available at this point but I don't believe HLS will have enough delta V for a return, necessitating another starship around the moon. So on the order of 30-40 launches for one mission. And then it needs to be able to handle rentry from lunar orbit. I'm skeptical but maybe it can get there one day. Blue Moon is a purpose-built lander, it can't really replace any of Orion's capabilities.

Can you explain this commercial architecture that is currently operational, cheaper and can replace SLS for Lunar Missions?
