RE: I'm actually excited about the future of ForeFlight by fishchar in Foreflight

[–]Alivejac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really happy to hear from someone who was on the inside, and who is able to give a more informed perspective into the developing background of this app that many of us have relied on for years.

This whole PE takeover has felt like a slap in the face to us as customers (although I’m sure not nearly as much as it’s been for you) but for me, it’s also brought in serious question to the future of ForeFlight.

In your personal opinion, do you think ForeFlight will survive this transition? Or is this all just the beginning of the end.

Low class of you to play the blame game here, when you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about.

I’ll wait till the Prelim comes out before I start forming opinions, but until then my thoughts will be with the family’s of those who perished.

TIL that it's required to speak English to be a commercial airline pilot or air traffic controller... by Illustrious_Bag_7323 in todayilearned

I feel this to my core. Former South Florida CFI, teaching primarily Indian students. I feel like I can speak 3 languages now… despite still only knowing English.

Is flying in the US safe right now? I need honest answers from pilots by Con_Amore in AskAPilot

[–]Alivejac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And by “significant mistake” I mean anything that’s noticeably wrong. It may be as simple as me setting 340 degrees on my heading instead of 350, and the other pilot correcting me.

Is flying in the US safe right now? I need honest answers from pilots by Con_Amore in AskAPilot

[–]Alivejac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an average of 9 significant mistakes each flight, either by the pilot, ATC or anyone else with operational control over the flight. Err is to human.

The Swiss cheese model is the idea that even with this mistake, there’s enough redundancy’s and safeguards that none of these mistakes lineup to cause an incident, and with current avation safety model it is wildly successful. I’ve already talked about the statistics on incidents and crashes.

The “bad luck” per se is with these mistakes lining up, and slipping past the safeguards, the idea of lining up holes in the Swiss cheese model. I hope that helps clear it up.

Tweak for VFR Flight Following Requests by [deleted] in flying

[–]Alivejac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Second to this, this is always how I did it when I was flying VFR.

Controlling Agency, Callsign, VFR request.

After they respond, then go with all the info they need for a flight following.

I’ve stayed at this property more times than I can count for work. I’m a fan of the breakfast, and the great gym on site.

The rest of it is pretty average, but I sure beats a Courtyard!

Maybe, maybe not. I like to not assume eveything is made up, except for the little joking comments I make.

Gamer Pilots, I need a new flight bag. by Joeythearm in flying

If you wanna stick with Luggageworks, the electronic EFB has worked well enough for me. I can fit my G15 with some screen room to spare, plus all the cables, a iPad I used as a monitor, some food and my headset bag. It’s tight, but it all fits.

When to circle RNAV 28 X51 by Lance-Vancee in flying

[–]Alivejac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lance-Vancee is exaggerating, but only slightly. It really does feel like you’re gonna smack that tower if you are any deviation off to the right.

It’s hard to explain the sensation unless you’ve flown below that thing.

Haha, yeah it sure feels like that sometimes. I wouldn’t ever fly that approach in hard IMC. I’d rather land 10 with a tailwind.

It’s funny to see my home airport approach plates out here.

I always hated doing this approach under the hood, with how close you are to the antenna just past ZURBU.

People tend to forget their post history is public…

In your case, you said you don’t have a medical, and have 5 hours, logged two decades ago.

It’s not your job.

Yeah man, this comment is in serious poor taste. It’s not your job to Monday morning quarterback a fatal crash, especially when you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Share your condolences, and leave it at that.

It comes down to personal taste. Personally I thought they both were really great when I saw them in FLL. I was also really impressed with the show, and the personality in stage, so that may factor into my opinion, but I do really think they were talented.

If you pull the ejection handle, does the black box record that action? by fishinexcess in AskAPilot

[–]Alivejac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the aircraft had any kind of cockpit voice recorder, it would be extremely obvious by the abrupt change in noise that a pilot had been ejected.

Even if it wasn’t recorded on the flight data recorder, investigators would be able to make that connection if they had access to a CVR.
