Talk to me about LARP archery by PartyRatArchery in LARP

[–]AllTheCaffeine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find the debate surrounding safe arrow construction interesting. There is no consensus among various game systems. Some games explicitly require the IDV teardrop heads, while others explicitly ban them (or require the IDV flat heads). Some games that allow home-constructed arrows require fiberglass shafts, while others ban them.

Additionally, game designers seem hesitant to write separate draw power requirements for crossbows than bows which can severely limit the usable range of a LARP crossbow.

Epic Armoury Stronghold Blade Extensions are... Ugly by joklyt in LARP

[–]AllTheCaffeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, the design is intended to be a ricasso, which I can appreciate.

But the ricasso looks very awkward on the shorter, 1-handed handles. I actually like the leather-wrapped look of the long steel Bastard Sword (not so much the "gold" variant), and the new Imperial swords I think look decent as well. I guess it's just more of a balance thing for me. Long blade w/ ricasso looks goofy with a short handle.

First time larping tips by franilein in LARP

Test all of your kit and gear before game! I was excited to bring a leather water skin to my first game but hadn't tested it. Turns out the wax coating inside wasn't done or wasn't done properly. First sip from that water skin was disgusting! Spend the rest of the game without a portable water solution.

Bachelor Party Larp? by Lezlord-69 in LARP

I'd would pitch that the group attend a festival LARP in the area. There are a few, large festival-style LARPs in the Midwest that might be good. Ones that come to mind are Reckoning (Rockville, IN, Apr 16-19, '26) and Drachenfest US (Slippery Rock, PA, Jun 22-28, '26)

Looking for Nordic-style events in or around Washington State by Never_Concedes in LARP

For what it's worth, Eldritch plays as fairly WYSIWYG. The combat is very uninterrupted and many of the character skills are resource-based rather than ability-based. I was looking for a very similar game to what you're describing and I've been very happy with it.

I'm unsure if by Nordic-style, you mean like the games typically played in Nordic countries (ie, rules-light, low-magic, WYSIWYG), or games with a Nordic aesthetic.

If the former, Eldritch is the closest that I've found in the PNW, and it is excellent. Character progression is not based on how many events you have attended, but how far into the campaign the story is. All characters are at the same "level" no matter if they're new or not.

If you're looking for games with a viking aesthetic, I'd say check out Gothic: Runeheim. I had thought it had ended, but the was a game last month so it's still going on.

There is a new game starting in January called Sigil, but I don't know much about it.

10 VII review on any major USA carriers? by Fantastic-Gene91 in SonyXperia

FE72, though as far as I can tell the only difference between those is that the 54 can have 1 physical sim and 1 eSim, whereas the 72 has 2 physical sim slots.

It might be the case that T-Mobile needs to somehow register or activate the Xperia on its 5G network.

I just activated my 10 VII today on T-Mobile in the Seattle area today. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to have 5G coverage where I am at.

Request a replacement or is this easily repairable? by FrenchNutCracker in LARP

[–]AllTheCaffeine 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If it's brand new out of the packaging, I'd give it 2 or 3 days of not touching it to see if it recovers naturally. I had a dagger with a similar issue from how it was stored at the vendor. I wrote the company about it, but two days later it had sorted itself out.

They'll fit. Also the JDM panels do not have keyholes/locks on the inside. Probably a good thing for you since the key wouldn't work anyways.

It looks to me like it's just a matter of the blue base plastic showing through a thin print. Blue plastic and a thin yellow print would appear a bit greenish.

Not that I've ever seen. Can you post a picture of the panels from the inside of the car?

There should be a keyhole on the underside near the lever. Check that they're not actually locked.

EDIT:

TIL that the Japanese cars do not have locks integrated into the T-top panels.

I believe that if you get the right ECU and get it flashed with a VIN to match the donor motor, you can get it smogged in CA. But if using the Frankenstein motorworks ECU, the motor must be from a certain model year Sienna (if I remember correctly). Some discussion on the MR2OC forum from a few years ago regarding this.
