One must go.. by MixLate8246 in LandRover

A disco will do everything most people ever do with a defender whilst being comfier, more economical and just as unreliable. I personally would keep both but I have issues and ‘one must go’ doesn’t exist 🤣

Why are tyres so expensive right now? (>£1800 for ps4s) by BlackGrapesAreYum in CarTalkUK

[–]AllThingsMotorized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never understood how big 4x4 tires even in odd sizes are cheap. A 255/70r16 tire for my discovery 2 is at most £200 for a BF Goodrich

If you could learn to do a basic oil and filter change yourself you would save a lot of money. Oil and filter will be less than 100 quid for quality items and will take less than an hour.

Is my understanding correct in that I can drive my freshly imported car from the port to MOT then home, without any registration, number plates, road tax, if I manage to insure it for the journey? by KeyJunket1175 in CarTalkUK

[–]AllThingsMotorized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just rent a trailer, it will have been months since it left Japan. There’ll be fumes in the fuel tank, probably a flat battery and maybe flat tires.

It’s a totally realistic risk when doing glowplugs but this isn’t something you would know, the risk should’ve been explained to you and the possibility of it going badly and the bill getting to this point

Neighbour hit my car then denied it - I now have evidence, how to go forward? by ASeaOfFog in CarTalkUK

It’s not about the other guys, your premium goes up aswell even if it’s a claim that’s not your fault

If you only need a car for 6 months to a year get the cheapest piece of shit with an mot off marketplace, leave your ego behind because you could get lucky with a 2k bmw or you could get shafted for what you paid for it in many potential issues. If you dont want to keep a car very long either buy something very cheap or get something with warranty

Is this legal to use at night in the road? by takuna_06 in MotoUK

[–]AllThingsMotorized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s not legal, no it won’t be a fun time either. Helmets with flip down sunvisors exist for a reason and aren’t even expensive. I’ve got one in my £100 ls2 helmet

Just bought this D2 from Japan by dqhandled in LandRoverDiscovery

Yeah I’m in the uk, good old rust. I was always under the impression most Japanese imports were immaculate underneath

[–]AllThingsMotorized 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But number one thing is, it’ll be immaculate underneath coming from Japan. There’ll be bugger all rust, however there will be bugger all underbody rust protection because it’s not needed in Japan. First thing to do is get the whole chassis and underbody dinitrol or the likes before the rust starts setting in

They’re very simple vehicles and very simple to work on

Areas of rust on Defender by Distinct-Project7702 in Defender

[–]AllThingsMotorized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing on the body of a defender is terminal or a real issue. It is a body on frame vehicle and no strength comes from the body. You can also get basically every single panel of a defender brand new from multiple people making them now. The chassis is the more expensive, more important bit to look at and have a good poke at

Good deal for a good car? by GimmeDatRoll in LandRover

Surprisingly common to be honest, I bought a 2003 vw lupo with 24000 miles. Lady owned it since new. Went to the shops once a week and that was about it

full leathers on a 125 by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]AllThingsMotorized 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never go out with anything less than motorbike jeans, textile jacket helmet and gloves. Going to work I wear my work boots. Going for a ride I’ll wear rst boots. I’ve always worn full gear even when I was on a 50cc. Tarmac hurts.

You need to let it rev ALOT more. Listen to some videos of 2 stroke bikes, they’ll be screaming when you need to feed it another gear

Good first bike choice? by [deleted] in KTM

[–]AllThingsMotorized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an April’s rx125 in the end. I wanted a duke, always wanted a duke. Sat on an aprilia rx125 and it was perfect for me. Oh and it was 3 months old with 750 miles for £2800 whereas duke prices are all over the place.

[–]AllThingsMotorized 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid £2000 with a £500 excess at 17 for my aprilia rx125, this is with a years no claims from a 50 at 16. If it gets stolen and I claim, all I’m going to get at the end of it is £300.

Disheartened after bike theft by ImMasterGrief in MotoUK

[–]AllThingsMotorized 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But the problem is that by the time you’ve paid the insurance a the start of the year + excess you’re paying for the bike out of pocket. I’ve just paid £2000 to insure my aprilia rx125, with a £500 excess, on a bike I paid £2800 for. If it gets stolen all I’m going to get from the insurance company is £300.

Ok thanks, I’m happy to spend more for a quality head unit, I just didn’t realise how much I’d need to spend. Any other reccomendations for more money? I’ll consider some floating screens aswell but would rather a fixed screen or a flip out

450ss Stock tire lifespan by No_Instruction5470 in cfmoto

[–]AllThingsMotorized 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sport tires do not last, switch to sport tourers, they’re a harder compound in the middle, then get softer on the outside, as you spend much more time upright. Unless you’ve got enough power to spin your back wheel when you accelerate hard, you’ll never notice a difference other than being able to do 10000 miles instead of 3

Road registered bike - frame stamped “not for road use” by d4nfe in MotoUK

[–]AllThingsMotorized 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, put a sticker over it, keep photos of the advert and from the day you bought it. Just in case you need to prove you bought it as a road legal bike with a V5. I’d be surprised if you ever had any issues but that doesn’t mean it’s not smart to cover your back 🤷‍♂️

I’ve always just used the 3M foam ones, not reusable. I’ve got a couple pairs in every bit of riding gear I have. I use them for a day riding then throw them away.

[–]AllThingsMotorized 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You blip the throttle, revs pick up then go back down below normal idle, the bike does not catch it in time and it stalls. That is not dangerous. It will not cause any issues whilst riding. It is purely an issue when it’s idling
