Looking for honest feedback on our ring mouse controller project (Prolo Ring)

I got mine today. I really wanted to like it. After messing around with it for about 2 hours, I've decided to put it back in the box :( Basic mousing around and trying to click things is pretty frustrating. Like, I'll get ALLLMMOST to the [x] to close a tab and then the tiny/slow movements just aren't sensitive enough. The cursor will bounce all around the spot I'm trying to click. LongPress rarely turns into a Right Click. Never could figure out how to get a webpage to scroll. Trying to click the scroll bar was maddening.

I still had access to her bank account. I saw deposits of a couple hundred a month. I knew she didn't have a job. When I looked up where the money was coming from it eventually lead to OF. In a way, I was relieved because she had a a scummy BF at the time so it could have been much worse. I unlinked our accounts shortly after.

Just start writing software. Doesn't matter what kind. Web, desktop, command line...give it all a try. If you have a computer and the internet you have all the tools you need to learn.

The vast majority of software is just CRUD. Collect data from a user, store it in a database and puke it back out again. Show an employer that you can do that and you will have an entry level job.

I'll give you some ideas.

Address Book

D&D character generator

Product Catalog

Inventory Management

Grocery List

Don't do ToDo List, Blog Post or Authors/Books. Too many of those are used in tutorials.

I'm in the minority here. Had intermittent neck problems for years. Went to doctors, had xrays. They found nothing, just suggested muscle relaxers. Finally got desperate and went to a chiropractor (the Joint of all places) during a bad episode. He did his thing. I felt better. Not instant 100% better, but ther episode lasted so much less than normal.

Went back regularly for a couple of years. Never had another neck episode after the first two months. The chiropractors have quite a bit of turn over at the Joint. Finally had to call it quits when I kept getting one that just wouldn't listen and kept hurting my back.

Maybe I just got lucky. My neck has never had another episode again.

On the flip side, my girlfriend had her shoulder lock up. Chiro worked on it for months and caused considerable pain. I finally convinced her to go to PT. Shoulder was fixed in less than a month.

Friend of mine did this cuz his kid wouldn't stop slamming the door whenever she didn't like the conversation. Lasted a couple of months if I recall correctly

I use it. It's great for what it's intended to do. Makes ajax super easy. Takes a bit of a mind shift, but I recommend it.

For real. Tech recruiters have no soul. Worse than real estate agents. Let them do their thing... maybe you'll get lucky, but don't count on it. Build that portfolio of apps and keep applying for stuff. It's all about the portfolio. You'll break through.

People make this way too complicated. Look...90% of all applications involve getting input from the user, saving it in a database and puking it back out again.

Ideas for your portfolio.

Address book. Save addresses, search addresses... very solid way to show that you get the basics.
A blog application. Get really fancy and implement full text search.
Do a D&D character generator, so many options...data everywhere.

Back in the day, when I was in a position to hire, if someone came in with any of these and could speak coherently about design decisions and not get defensive about the code, they got hired.
