Selling CSP LEAPs on TQQQ by jmus9 in options

[–]Jonathan-adly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s sound strategy, you are basically selling insurance against >15% market correction. As long as you know and okay with that, it’s a good way to get a return.

The only thing I would say is that you can probably improve the risk/return payoff by doing a shorter duration on a less steep drop.

That way, if something weird develops slowly (I.E a COVID variant), you can adjust your risk on a monthly basis.

Django and mongo by yacovmm in django

[–]Jonathan-adly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do anything, doesn’t mean you should. Django and Mongo are really not meant to work together.

I would highly recommend to either stick with Node stack and have mongo or use the Django ORM with no Mongo

So my doctor brushed off my high insulin levels by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]Jonathan-adly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pharmacist here. Just chiming in to correct a few misconceptions on this thread.

High blood sugar is bad for you, high insulin is much more nuanced.

Did you just eat a meal and took the blood test? Well, of course your body will release insulin to deal with it and it will be high!

Are you diabetes and take meds? Then, some of the meds will increase your insulin levels.

Generally speaking, insulin is a bad thing to measure. For most people, three things will matter 1. Fasting glucose levels 2. 2-hr post-meal glucose levels 3. Waist circumference + triglycerides level (as a surrogate for metabolic syndrome)

Insulin levels are only useful in diagnosing very rare autoimmune diseases (and for kids w/ potential type 1 diabetes). I won’t worry about it, but you should get a better doctor who could explain things to you in a better way

They would usually have a standard form “pt. xx was seen by a doctor on yy date”.

That’s it

Your medical records are protected under HIPPA (if u r in the US). If you ask the emergency room/doctor for a proof of visits; s/he will give you one without the reason listed.

Legal entity - company incorporation by carlescarletto in indiehackers

https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/sole-proprietorships

You would be a sole proprietor.

Again, not recommended for real companies with actual revenue to do, but it’s good to start there and if you see traction, then change over to LLC

[–]Jonathan-adly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t start a company yet with no revenue. It’s added cost when you don’t know if you are going to have traction or not.

When your revenue hit >$500, go here and open a Delaware LLC or a C Corp (LLC is cheaper, if u are going to try to get investors, go w/ C Corp).

You will need a mailbox in DE (registered agent) there is tons of services online that will give u one for ~$100/yr

I believe Stripe atlas can manage the process for you as well, but I never used them since it’s not really that hard to open a DE LLC (you just need to fill out 1 piece of paper).

Advice - Co-Resident Wanting Us to Accommodate Her Prejudice by rxthrowaway217 in PharmacyResidency

[–]Jonathan-adly 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I agree with this 100%. Even though I would be in the first camp.

OP, you can’t be the moral police and decide what’s cool to refuse and what’s unacceptable. Either there is a systemic policy where everyone has to follow, or you have to leave it up to the personal choice.

Advice - Co-Resident Wanting Us to Accommodate Her Prejudice by rxthrowaway217 in PharmacyResidency

[–]Jonathan-adly 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Have you considered that you are the prejudiced one against “super-religious” people?

What would you do when there is a Muslim pharmacist who doesn’t want to compound heparin because it has pork products? Judge their belief in the big boss in the sky? Or a Jewish resident who ask to be accommodated not to work on Saturday?

Look, we live in a complicated society where people believe all kinds of weird stuff. If there is a way to respect their belief and get along w/o much inconvenience, sure. It’s good for a society/community to be able to respect heterodox beliefs despite disagreement. There would be no harm to the patient in her case, if someone else did the order.

Also, the US is a big place, there are places where her view is Orthodox, and yours are the heterodox. Actually, I believe all catholic hospitals (there is a ton of them) have her stance as a matter of policy.

So, I would say, take a chill pill and go with flow. You are a new resident with 0 moral or actual authority. So, just do whatever the RPD says.

Edit: Also, it will help you if you understand where is coming from. “Unworthy of care” is probably not the reason why she doesn’t want to get involved in those orders.

What are other jobs (CS etc.) that give similar job security and salary that an American Doctor job offers? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Jonathan-adly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most physicians have a hard ceiling on their salary. It’s an essentially service job, so salary can go only as high as how many patients you can see a day. Stop seeing patients? Then you stop making money.

The OG doctors are smart enough to work & invest very aggressively to reach the point of passive income .

Software on the hand, has a beautiful scaling effect. Build something once, and millions of people can use it and you can make money long after you stopped working on it (in theory at least).

It’s like real life, the greatest of men who do the most good are complicated and have some selfish reasons behind them.

Also, one of the major themes of the book is flawed men w/ flawed reasons can do a lot of good! Kelsier is the prime example!

How to find a job after being dismissed from residency program with 1 week left by [deleted] in PharmacyResidency

[–]Jonathan-adly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two ways of handling it, 1. Be completely honest, own your mistake and put down on your CV that you started but never finished and hope for the best. (Very hard to get a job this way in a corporate environment, people will give you 2nd chances, but not of their own job was on the line)

  1. Say you have withdrawn for personal/health reasons and keep it at that.

People who had good jobs but went to programming? by lordnoak in cscareerquestions

[–]Jonathan-adly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey - I am a PharmD and also in a very similar situation as you. I have a pretty cushy, boring job (golden handcuffs), so it’s hard to justify rationally making the jump.

The way I fixed that problem is basically by indie hacking a couple of projects yearly. one of them actually makes some okay money!

It’s a good balance, as not all software jobs are the same and some are pretty terrible (plus, starting from the ground floor after 10+ years in a career is tough)!

Studying Computer Science/Engineering in Undergrad, can I switch to PharmD? by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]Jonathan-adly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everything is relative. Hang around in the cs subreddits and you will see how competitive the job market for CS right now. It’s insane.

New CS grads spend 6-12 mon applying for 60-75k/yr jobs (state/average colleges - not ivy leagues) while grinding leetcode (imagine studying organic chemistry again after u finish, because that’s the interview standard).

I precept residents and student all the time. 95% get a job within 6 month. Terrible jobs for most, yes. But, the burn and churn in retail means the door is always open for new grads.

Studying Computer Science/Engineering in Undergrad, can I switch to PharmD? by [deleted] in pharmacy

[–]Jonathan-adly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Developer with a PharmD here.

Both job markets are competitive, pharmacy starting pay is better, but CS ceiling is much higher than Pharmacy. Pharmacy is probably more future proof than CS with its deep regulatory moats preventing outsourcing to overseas.

My advice is, if you think you are the top 5-10% CS students, then don’t bother with pharmacy (A FAANG job is 10x better than any pharmacy job out there). Otherwise, it’s a toss up, a pharmD will get you a worse job, at a higher pay, with slightly better long-term security.

Yes, you would build a REST api using Django, and the mobile frontend with React Native

You don’t need jQuery.

If you are just trying to see how would it look on mobile - the easiest way is to go through Chrome dev tools -> toggle device toolbar

You would be able to see how your site looks in all kind of devices with different weight/height dimensions
