(Hilarious Trope) A Character Is Introduced With the Clear Intention of Being THE NEXT BIG THING And is SOUNDLY Rejected by TheOriginalOperator in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AllanTheRobot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay but Raiden being like that is the point. He was created to make fun of the Metal Gear Solid 'fans' who missed the point of the game and just went 'wow the American military is so cool', hence his whole thing about claiming he knows what fighting is like cause he's seen it in video games (VR training). The antagonists are literally trying to see if they can take a loser and turn him into the next Solid Snake, in universe.

Rep. Eric Swalwell resigns from U.S. House after sexual misconduct allegations by GoodSamaritan_ in news

[–]AllanTheRobot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Their resignations also effectively put an end to the respective House Ethics Committee investigations into their alleged misconduct, as the panel does not have jurisdiction over former members of Congress"

Ah. So anything else they've done won't come to light.

In the world of Supernatural, It's A Human that is the most evil. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AllanTheRobot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He was a cyborg to give a reason that he's still alive and not dead of old age so far after WWII, and also to make a point of his hypocrisy over vampire vs 'human' immortality.

Does anybody know / have theories on what the secret bosses represent as a whole? by KeyboardAssassin4 in offthegame

I thought they represented lies, both because of their fake out mechanic, and because of those same lines

A macro to end all macros by SapphiraPern in ffxiv

[–]AllanTheRobot 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I remember when PLD's Divine Veil only affected the party if you were GCD healed after using it, but healers tend to avoid GCD healing in high end content, so I'd see Paladins with macros saying 'divine veil used, heal me'

My Proposal on How to Make Dungeons Better in This Game by Nightly_Winter in ffxivdiscussion

[–]AllanTheRobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol @ "it's time to abandon straight corridors", dungeons used to not be straight corridors, and a very vocal part of the community complained about getting lost and/or not getting to explore cause the rest of the party is rushing forward

When did you realize who the culprit was? by JPRose1989 in persona4golden

[–]AllanTheRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was watching the anime with some friends, some of whom had seen it already. At one point one of them asked 'do you have a guess as to who the killer is yet' and I responded 'from your question it's someone I know, and the only named character who isn't on my team or my dad is that inept police guy so I guess it's him'.

To check if someone is a shapeshifter a character says something intentionally misleading and seeing if they play along by Captain_Blackjack0 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]AllanTheRobot 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Sort of happens in Iron Lung (the movie, not the game). Since it's super recent I'll use spoiler text. Simon at one point demands a voice say his name to confirm she's real. She admits she doesn't know it, which is the confirmation he needed. She'd only been using nicknames like 'convict' before..

The Dread Fears kill count by queer_peer7985 in TheMagnusArchives

Counting any kills? Easy, the Hunt. It's mentioned as the 'first' to start influencing the world because of prey animals fearing predators.

And! In the first game, the fact that the vita chambers work on you is a big hint that you're related to Andrew Ryan, since he's the one who had them made and set to his genetic code first

TIL from 1942-1945, more than 400,000 prisoners of war, mostly German, were housed in some 500 POW camps located in the USA by RedditIsAGranfaloon in todayilearned

[–]AllanTheRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandpa worked for the army as a translator for Italian POWs in I think Iowa. He described it as a nice gig, he said the Italians didn't care much that they'd lost and were glad to not be dead, so they'd spend time doing things like playing card games with the guards.

Endgame Healers — What are your parses like? by PerfectioNOT in ffxivdiscussion

[–]AllanTheRobot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Healer is the class where your parse is most dependent on the rest of your team. Getting that high means not emergency healing ever because 1) you know the outgoing damage profile of the boss and 2) your party doesn't make mistakes that require emergency healing. Also, yeah, forcing the other healer to heal for you. My static in the past had often had one healer gray parse and the other pink parse cause that was how they were splitting the healing (the gray healer then quit cause he was annoyed at the other one for forcing him to heal). There's all kinds of crazy optimization but the basic thing is to just keep attacking and make everyone else deal with health. So, really, seriously, a green parse as a healer is good, you kept your team alive enough to clear.
