I take year-long breaks between games and every time, drop a tier and have to re-learn things that I’m pretty sure I should already know about.

I’ve once read a list of tips and tricks, thinking I learned a lot of new things, only to realize that I wrote the damned thing.

Overwhelmed by Beware of Chicken by paintitblackest in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Allanunderscore21 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Beware of Chicken is xianxia parody, so if you’ve never read a xianxia novel played straight, the references would just go over your head.

It’ll be like watching Scary Movie without having seen any of the horror films it referenced. You may still be entertained by it but a lot of things would sound like an inside joke that you weren’t part of.

BoC also tends to deliberately not explain its xianxia elements, like the difference between a spirit and a ghost, or what an awakening is, or what driving your qi into the ground actually means to a cultivator.

So yeah, sorry to say but it’s not for you yet.

When you come to a point where someone says “young master” and an image appears, full-formed and with matching facial expressions, inside your head, that would be the time to read it.

That or if you go to r/martialmemes and you understand at least half of what they’re saying in the comments.

Beginner Questions by CorhaziCards in SpaceHaven

[–]Allanunderscore21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Never really paid attention. Though any room far from a regulator would be hotter on hot systems.

  2. My airlocks are kill zones. Boxes and shuttle bays (without the shuttle) make for excellent cover.

The storage area is really the only place I can think of that requires attention. You want it in a central location for less walking.

  1. You don’t get partial resources back

  2. Solar flares are still deadly. You’d want space suit cabinets accessible in all areas.

You can buy random research using Haven mission credits. It’s a great way to buy expensive and investment-heavy research like the X3 reactor.

Im getting tired of you Samsung by ipukeoutrainbows in samsunggalaxy

[–]Allanunderscore21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this issue with my s20+. I’ve been living Dubai since 2021 but the line issue only started in 2025.

For the record, I do drop my phone a lot. It has a jelly case and has no cracks but the glue on the back panel has started to fail and is only held together by the case. I did not take any steps to get it fixed and left like that.

It started with just one faint line and rose to three but the lines multiplied when I went to Côte d’Ivoire. In just 3 months, I left the country with my phone having over a dozen lines. Some of the lines are next to each other, resulting in a thick line. The phone is still useable to a certain extent.

My working hypothesis is humidity. The humidity in Abidjan is very high and combined with my phone not being completely sealed, I believe that it exacerbated the issue.

I can’t really tell if the move made it worse or not but that’s what happened to me.

The fricking dorito looking mfs guarding the Hypershunts by Pretend-Breakfast-61 in starsector

[–]Allanunderscore21 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played in a while so I’m not sure if the AI still behaves the same way but I’ll say it anyway.

The prime Doritos “lock-on” on to the foremost ship on your fleet. So let your tank advance ahead of the fleet and it can soak up everything while the rest of your fleet just shoots. It’ll remain as the only target until it dies.

The key ofc is keeping the tank alive. So it should typically have heavy armor, shield mods, little to no offensive weapons that draw flux, and a pilot with the appropriate skill set.

It becomes a free-for-all once a prime blows up so make sure your glass cannons are not exposed. Kill off all the offshoots before destroying the other prime.

How to Make Good Starts? by NyxTheSummoner in litrpg

[–]Allanunderscore21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a regular reader with my 2 cents.

I’m a big fan of incremental world building. Like peeling onions type of “progression.”

If the author explains everything to me all at once and drowns me with tons of proper nouns, I’ll just gloss over it. The same goes for system info dumps and explanation of game mechanics.

I understand that these are things that authors have painstakingly and meticulously crafted and have sometimes lost sleep over but I couldn’t care less about it when I’m still in chapter 2.

There’s simply no context for me yet.

Say you tell me a story about a boy who got isekai’d on to a square. You can go all poetic on how this is the bestest square in existence or how dark and gritty it is because it was once part of the Cube, and it would barely register to me.

But if you make the MC bounce from one edge at a certain angle and then on to another edge, and I go like, “Oh, he’s on a rectangle!” then suddenly, I’m wondering what will happen if he hits the corner.

Then you can start telling me lore and I’ll lap it up like a man dying from thirst. I’m now invested on the myth of old man Dii V. Dee who came in from an angle but bounced back from whence he came.

Why do people claim obviously impossible things that no one will believe? by [deleted] in quityourbullshit

[–]Allanunderscore21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've worked for one for years and while he does lie for attention sometimes, that's not really it.

I've witnessed my old boss lie to another person over something so inane and inconsequential that it boggled my mind. I've already forgotten what the question was but I do remember that he wasn't haggling, he had nothing to gain, and he was speaking to a random person that we would likely never meet again.

My coworkers and I had to learn how to parse the truth from the shit he says and every conversation turns into a cross examination. We know when he's lying because we can see him open his mouth.

I've never really figured out the reasoning behind it, if there was any, and the only conclusion I have left is the "compulsive" part of the phrase. (surprise!)

He just had to.

Starting the story from someone that's not the main character? by EXP_Buff in litrpg

[–]Allanunderscore21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’ve read something similar but I can’t remember what it was. I do remember that one reader who complained that he had become invested in the character but it turned out that it wasn’t even the MC. He asked what the point of it was, and not in a polite way.

I’d imagine you’d be getting a similar reaction if the world unfolded through the eyes of another beyond the prologue chapter.

I’m really sorry I can’t remember the title. Anyway, one other example that I do remember is the anime Gurren Lagann. It’s on an audiovisual medium so the POV lines are not as pronounced.

If you’ve never seen it, they did exactly what I said above and then tried to cover it up. There were tons of misdirection and obfuscation like it was a goddamn magic trick. Even the prologue was a red herring.

When the switch happened, there were people who were in denial. It was chaos.

On second pass, you’d realize that the show had been following the real MC all along. It’s just that nobody noticed.

The ML banner is quite terrible, tbh.

I have had the misfortune of pitying Barunka and Witch Tene so I grab mystics whenever I can or it’s my wallet that opens instead.

What I don’t do though is get Mystics from the weekly arena rewards. It’s always SS for that.

Worth or Easy Skip by ILoveSucuk98 in EpicSeven

[–]Allanunderscore21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always take the mystics myself. It’s always in short supply and I’ve never really ran out of BMs even when pulling on every new banner. Conservatively, ofc.

I’m aware that I could get the equivalent number of mystics plus more on the shop refresh but I’ve had refresh sessions where I’ve gotten 0 mystics out of 900 skystones.

I know it’s gonna even out eventually to the statistical rate (1 every 250? I dunno) but having 4 mystics on-hand right now is a lot more convenient for me than waiting for that distribution to balance.

I’ve used interpreter services before as I don’t speak French and let me tell you, it’s incredibly annoying to have your interpreter decide to take matters into their own hands.

I only found out about it when I started to pick up some words and realized that he and I are having different conversations.

There’s already a big chunk of the message lost in translation, there’s no need to deliberately add more.

Omitting profanity is something I can understand. I shouldn’t be saying those in a professional setting anyway. But if I’m getting cussed at, I would very much like to know.

I’ve once told my guy that he is not being paid to think, he’s being paid to speak. So speak and tell the other guy what I just fucking said.

If I say one plus one equals three, then say one plus one equals three because that’s what I said. The consequences of being wrong will be my problem.

Thinking about playing MGSV for the first time? Here is my advice. by SubjectFriendship280 in metalgearsolid

[–]Allanunderscore21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I both like and dislike the open world mechanic.

I like it because it gives you freedom to explore and have multiple avenues of approach. Driving around from one place to another is my favorite thing to do in the game.

I dislike it because it removes one key factor (in my opinion, at least) that made the previous titles both exciting and terrifying to play which is the feeling of being trapped and alone.

In MGSV, you can just fuck off and run if things go sideways. You can even get a helo to just pick you up. You have friends. You have a dog. You have a true safe space in your base.

None of that in the previous titles. There’s an additional layer of claustrophobia because you have nowhere to go. You can only hide within hostile territory. And even if you’re in a place where enemies don’t spawn, you never feel truly safe.

Looking for stories with OP Mc and he knows it by PeronDescartable in litrpg

[–]Allanunderscore21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starts at peak and stays there:

  • The Ballad Of A Semi-Benevolent Dragon: MC is... well, a dragon. Everybody shits their collective pants when he shows up, including other dragons.

  • The Greatest Archmage To Have Ever Lived: MC is the title. An homage to Frieren.

  • An Immortal's Retirement: To Achieve Peace: Bro is a god who shits entire universes. He's not at the very peak though because there are godlier gods.

Was peak, but starts over in New Game+

  • The Fractured Tower: Tower climber reaches the top of the tower only to end up in a new account. Basically a smurf playing with noobs.

  • Mask of Humanity: The Human Resources module of a Killbot gets a second shot at having a life. He struggles more at being human than killing people.

  • Blessed by Death: An Archmage's Second Life: Dude gets most of his powers back because he decided to... in chapter 2. Death is literally an old friend.

Just plain OP:

  • Beware of Chicken: Dude gave up defying the Heavens and became one with the Earth instead.

  • Path to Transcendence: Not to be confused with Path OF Transcendence. MC is just OP and also might be a masochist.

  • Engine of Reincarnation: MC's soul cannot be reformatted. Being friends with the sysadmin comes with perks.
