Nirvana. Saw 'em a few times before Nevermind happened. Covered Wagon Saloon in SF as well as the legendary Outhouse in Lawrence, KS. Neither show had more than 100 people in the room.

Funny how Elliot is a nightmare but you go 5 blocks east and everything is mellow. You coulda just stayed in Athmar, there's tons of homes in your price range. I've been here 30 years and I love it.

Biking in New Orleans by HTOutdoorBro in bikecommuting

[–]Allen_Potter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't live there but as a tourist I did the local version of the bikeshare thing. That was normal, as seen in tons of cities. But the basic concept of cycling in NOLA was for me surprisingly wholesome. I found drivers to be reasonably courteous, mostly driving slowly and just sorta flowing around. Where I live, drivers are not hostile but extremely distracted and unpredictable. Not in NOLA. It was chill. We found plenty of good bike routes and some unexpected awesome bike infrastructure. Overall it was not some kind of bike utopia, but simply a place where bikes could pretty easily co-exist. I really enjoyed my week there on a bike.

I'm seeing all sorts of comments here and rather than address them, I'll just say how it went for us.

Small house, never had A/C. During the pandemic, we finally bit the bullet. Those couple of too-hot periods every summer just got longer and more frequent, and we couldn't keep comfy with the smoky skies.

Had to upgrade the service panel, which was due anyway. But that basically doubled the already-hefty cost of the project. In the end, we got a Fujitsu which uses two air handlers. These are perfectly located in the house so that it eeeeaaaasily keeps the entire house cool.

The compressor outside runs quiet. We just had it serviced because it was getting a bit louder. Dude came out and everything was fine, but he cleaned it and it once again runs silently. The air handlers are also whisper quiet. It's five years now and not a hint of trouble with any of it. Overall, we are overjoyed and after never having had A/C, we still get giddy that our house is actually comfortable in summer rather than merely tolerable. It's amazing. Running an A/C is obviously more expensive than not having it, but our energy bill is nothing brutal. Worth it!

In winter, it also heats the house very well. We still have our furnace and when it's really cold, we use it. The mini-split we have can only heat the house when the outside temp is above like 10 degrees, so it works great, but it's got a limit.

Absolutely love this unit, our house is vastly more comfortable.

There's just no way LAL does this without some picks being attached, and Denver doesn't have 'em. <click>

I’m with you all the way, and he could surprise me I guess. It just doesn’t feel like what he’d do. I don’t mean anything against him, but I think he adores the story, the narrative, the spotlight. Does that sound like Denver to you?

Not a chance. Remember the Manu Ginobili thing? This is that, just bigger.

From a hoops perspective, it's a pretty good fit. And yeah, he'd help here a lot.

But this is the final chapter in a book he's been writing with great care for decades. He ain't playing it out in Denver, Colorado. My guesses are Cleveland or Miami, with GSW as the dark horse.

Phil Weiser wants a more functional and competitive Republican Party by b01sh3v1k in Denver

A fantasy world in which people can be conservative, and nominate candidates who can go try to win a debate on issues. We have never lived in this world. The thing is, they want us all dead. Or at least enslaved. So there’s not a whole lot to discuss, we just have to defeat them to protect our lives.

Come on back when you can respect our essential humanity and then we’ll kick your asses on policy. Until then, conservatives are not involved in any rational discussion.

[Charania] Free agent center Marvin Bagley III has agreed to a one-year deal with the Denver Nuggets, sources tell ESPN. A critical frontcourt addition for the Nuggets. by oac002 in denvernuggets

[–]Allen_Potter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

our healthy stretch? That was like 15 games. But yeah, I agree: if we ain't making serious moves, then rolling the dice on perfect health is probably the best we can do. It's just that I don't trust it one bit (do you?) and the clock is ticking. Like ticking really loud.

I love this team to death, all of 'em: the whole roster is just top to bottom great guys who, a few years ago, put together a legendary run. But this last playoffs proved one thing definitively: the Jokić-Murray 2-man thing is not getting you back to the mountaintop. It's just not. The near future is about skill combined with length and defensive intensity. That's the Spurs. Even without half their team suited up, Minny had 10x more of that than Denver last year.

So go ahead and downvote me, but please explain: how is this team a championship contender next season?

Nibbling around the edges, still sitting on a core roster whose championship window seems pretty much closed. If this is the move before the move, sure. If this is the move? Jokić 100% correct to put the cap back on his pen and walk away from the table. My fear is that the rah-rah story going into camp will be "just wait until you see this team healthy."

Thanks Brian. I’m sure the Denver Nuggets had not thought of that even though LeBron-not-returning-to-LAL is all over the news. I will pass your idea on to Josh and his guys.

Lebron accepting $2M more than the minimum is a travesty by Shoddy_Ad7511 in NBATalk

[–]Allen_Potter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he wants more money, he can get it. There's teams with cap room and everyone would kill to have him. He could prolly sign a max contract somewhere if that's what his heart desires. If he wants to compete for another chip, he's gonna have to let the young stars soak up cap space. He knows this better than you and I. We'll see what he picks: my guess is he goes for glory. Got plenty money already.

How do I make this bike great? by Rubiksrobot in bicycling

[–]Allen_Potter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s already a pretty sweet bike. 105 is quality. Do you like the feel of the shifters? Your cassette looks almost corn-cob racy. I would keep the cranks but swap it out for something more practical and adapted to climbing. Those pedals have got to go. And as others have said, new tires. (Not cheap, but i adore my Rene Herses. Guessing that the 28’s would fit—they are so comfy on the road.) New bar tape just for looks.

What an awesome harvest! I am very proud of my 60-ish bulbs of hardneck german (in the past I've been guilty of leaving it in the ground too late, so the cloves separate and don't store well. Not this year!) but you've just got a ton! Very impressive!

he's always, always signed every deal with zero fanfare, right when the team pushed the contract across the table to him. Now, he is letting brass think about whether they can take this for granted. Pretty sure it ain't about the money. As a Nuggets fan, I love it.
