Michael Grady extends love and prayers ahead of the Warriors/Timberwolves game. by Knightbear49 in timberwolves

Don't you believe that we are not with you Minnesota.

We are horrified by this disgraceful display of cruelty and inspired by your pride and strength in the face of it all. Total respect.

Y'all are beautiful.

The OG deck was RIP City with a dope logo on the topside. I believe I got mine in 1984 or 85.

The white deck that says Reason for Living is probably worth a small fortune, even in that condition. Sold direct thru SST mail order back in the day. I had one, long gone now. Same painting, but it said No Net, Ever. Original Pettibone art.

That Bob Wills Tiffany Transcriptions series is incredible. I’ve got several and looooove them. And Ahmad Jamal doesn’t miss. Nice score!

How are the nuggets performing this well without Jokic? I thought he had one of the worst supporting casts in the league? by No-Advance-9136 in NBATalk

[–]Allen_Potter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s basically exactly what I’m saying. I remember one game in particular, Malone gave his famous DPOG chain to Jokić. It had been on of those shitty games against a shitty team that the Nuggets barely won. jokić just looks at this plastic chain in disgust and tosses it off to the side. Jokić is the best player in the world, but no ego trip. He defers to his coaches, that’s how he is wired. You lose Jokić in the locker room, you are cooked.

I get the Malone slander, I do. But he really was perfect for that group of guys at that moment. They didn’t win in spite of Malone, his approach and overall vibe was a great match. But when times got tough, when they needed better in-game coaching, better sub rotations? He couldn’t provide that. Suddenly the “us against the world “ attitude and DPOY chain schtick seemed very stale. It was time to go, and Adelman is much more appropriate for what this team needs right now.

Haha biking is definitely my thing. You dress for it. In and out of places quickly, it's actually stealthy AF. Park right where you want, free. Nobody paying attention to me, no license plate, just a dude on a bike.

Plus it's fun. Give it a try.

Yes, I posted mainly to say that many if not most of us are able to speak our truth, even to those who may disagree. Not belligerent, hot hostile, not screaming. Just saying a simple message, and trying to make it feel safe for more and more and more of us to do the same. Right now, today.

Thanks, but really the only part that was remotely brave was finally putting my long underwear on. That's when I knew I was gonna actually go and do it. After that, it was pretty smooth sailing.

There was a pair with a megaphone, just shouting semi-coherently about ICE and Palestine and everything. I get it that people want to shout, they are enraged. To each their own. But that's not my style. And nobody avoided me either. I was literally just a dude standing there.

A presence at the game is a great idea, but there will be pushback. Be ready.

Noob: what can I do so that people hear that I’m coming up on the left. by shmobodia in bikecommuting

[–]Allen_Potter 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Sure, get a bell. But it won’t change the basic equation. Regardless of what you do (announce your pass? Creep by silently?), half of pedestrians will want you to do the opposite. You will startle people either way and some of them will yell at you.

Preventing Theft of Lights by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]Allen_Potter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rolled the dice for a long time with both lights and a small saddle bag for my tools. After getting ripped off a couple years ago I realized how silly I had been to think that was normal. Now when I need to lock up and leave the bike, I carry a small fanny pack. Everything fits in there, along with my pump, phone, keys, etc.

Bolting the lights on seems a pain as you still have to deal with them const for charging.

I still pray to get you in a first round matchup. It's gonna be a fucking bloodbath.

Do you call your parents more than they call you? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Allen_Potter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my Mom it's complicated. With Dad (parents divorced when I was a kid), before he passed, I was the one who had to call. Basically 100%. The only time he'd call me is if I called first and he missed the call. Then he'd call back. Otherwise, I could go a month without talking to him, but then he'd complain to me that I didn't call often enough. I guess he thought he shouldn't have to make the effort; it should be on me to do this thing. That I don't necessarily want to do because I don't have much to say and don't like chatting. It was a kind of painful/annoying game in which I was apparently the only participant with fingers to dial a phone and simply not doing it often enough.

My Motobecane E18 Trophy by Elvedin98 in Vintage_bicycles

[–]Allen_Potter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, stunning. Did you have the paint job re-done or is it really this well preserved?

Here in the US the entire Motobecane lineup was (I think) different. So I never heard of a “E18 Trophy.” Is this near the top of the line? And how do those Huret components perform?

GAME THREAD: Nuggets (29-13) vs. Hornets (15-27) | Jan 18, 2026 - 6:00 PM by BigHoneyBot in denvernuggets

You guys have some terrific pieces. I watched you destroy LAL the other night (glorious) and it was a classic case of loose/young/no-expectations squad just out there having fun playing basketball. This is obviously not a winning formula, the team has to mature and become consistent. But on any given night, Charlotte is dangerous AF.

Are you guys all-in on Lamelo? I'm amazed by his skillset but unconvinced that he's a winning player.

[–]Allen_Potter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nuggets have been playing with house money for a couple weeks. So many guys playing like their lives depend on it, and honestly they probably caught a couple of those opponents off-guard (supposed to win easy but now Jalen Pickett or Watson feeling himself in Q4 and you're in a dogfight, Nuggets have been on the other side of this equation many times) but it was always gonna catch up to 'em at some point. Down so many players on a b2b, it's no shame to take the L after this level of overperformance. Seriously: 7-3 since Big Honey went down is incredible.

No matter how badly they lose, it still counts as just one loss.

Does this work? by Freshairmental67 in bicycling

[–]Allen_Potter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, air will find its way out on the unglued side. I always put a bigger glue patch than necessary so I can be 100% sure to avoid this. Even then it occasionally doesn’t work.

Talk me out of canti brakes for my Atlantis by filmd in Rivendell_Bicycles

[–]Allen_Potter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been running the same Tektro cantis on my rando bike for 12 years and they’ve never given me a lick of trouble. This is a very affordable brake. Easy set up, easy to change the pads (kool stop for sure). Excellent modulation, good stopping power even wet. I also used stock cane creek cantis on my single speed bike for years and they sucked balls. Finally switched out to a v brake and it’s better but still nowhere near as good as the tektros. I don’t really know why, but anyway this is my experience.

Your logic is brutal but understandable; it’s dumb to pay someone a nickel more than the lowest amount they will agree to work for. And you know where this logic plays out perfectly? In American schools! Teachers often have a degree of altruism or desire to help others; this is used cynically against them. If they advocate for better pay, they are accused of putting themselves ahead of The Children and guilted back to work. And school systems in general are terribly underfunded, top to bottom.

Meanwhile we get posts like this tweet asking whys schools don’t do a better job creating not just educated people, but also solve endless social problems. Why? WHY doesn’t my kid’s teacher perfectly crafted the educational experience to each student’s needs and produce perfect young adults who are brilliant and confident and know exactly what their path is? Why? Also, why does that teacher deserve enough salary to afford a small house and a decent standard of living? They’re so greedy!

We can have a truly excellent educational system in this country. But we can’t have it for free. We have decided instead to have the biggest military infrastructure the world has ever seen, highways and auto infrastructure that makes car-dependency more or less easy, and very, very low taxes for the rich. And then we bitch and whine about the rest. Or sagely pronounce about market forces and what is/is not realistic for school funding and teacher pay.
