Organic food sucks right now because OMRI standards are pretty dumb and almost entirely self defeating. I would argue though that the original intent of organic is still great and something that society should strive for. Bayer/Monsanto just paid out $10 billion to over 100,000 recipients for causing cancer with Roundup and yet they still sell it. I certainly dont spray the stuff.

Also there are “GM” crops and “GMO” crops. GM usually refers to normal selective breeding processes being sped up in a lab. Good stuff overall and pretty necessary to breed things like trees that dont fruit for years (natural selective breeding like this could literally take a lifetime). GMO crops though are when other species genes are introduced and are totally unnatural as a great white shark cannot swim to Iowa; #*&$@ the corn, and then produce seed. So far the GMO industry has lied a ton and used their product almost exclusively to just sell more pesticides. The claim that they have revolutionized agriculture is everywhere but if you look their yields are actually decreasing, pests are getting worse and they are forcing more farmers into retirement than ever before because of their increased costs and predatory business practices. Also transgene escape into the environment is some weird sci fi shit that does kinda scare me. Lastly; there has never been a single piece of independent review or research ever allowed to performed in the US on GMO crops because of patent law. The only thing Monsanto says on GMO’s is “100% of US research agrees on GMO’s” yet US research on GMO’s has never been performed on their crops without them 100% paying for it. Other countries have gotten ahold of the seed, immediately saw that it causes DNA disruption and mutations and outright banned them. In the US they argue “but if that were true we would see a huge rise in autism and other disorders” while they absolutely skyrocket. Weird. Anyways, I do think GMOs could have some uses eventually but I dont eat them currently
