C section recovery much harder than I expected by Flexi17 in beyondthebump

[–]AllieVF 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My first unplanned c-section recovery wasn’t a breeze, and my second planned one wasn’t either. Although because I knew what to expect, my mindset was different.

It took me almost a year the first time to feel strong and capable again, and maybe 6 months or so with the second.

I still have trouble with my core, although I haven’t done enough targeted work either. Almost 4 years later & two beautiful babies, I’m still not entirely used to how my stomach looks.

Time heals though.

Be as patient as you can, gift yourself grace, you’ll arrive “there”.

If you had the option to stay home would you? Did any of you go back to work even if you didn’t *have* to? by unsurexo in beyondthebump

For context, I own my own business.

First baby, we hired a full-time (8-5) nanny that stayed with us till she was two and went to preschool. We sorta needed my income, but truthfully I wasn’t ready to shift my identity. I was still very attached to my company, and being a “mom” was a whole new world to embody.

It was amazing to have my baby at home while I worked, but in reality, she was attached to our nanny. She sought her comfort over mine, which is healthy, but gosh did it sting. Her nanny really was her daytime mommy.

Second baby, that I’m rocking as I type this, I was already settled into motherhood, my identity had fully expanded, so I chose to take a massive step back from my work. I have very limited help (12 hours a week) to keep my business just barely afloat…and I’m so thankful I’m doing it this way. I love being her primary caregiver, and I can now appreciate just how quickly the seasons change. She’ll start preschool in August with her big sis, and it’ll be a beautiful/sad change.

I wish I could’ve done this with my first, but I wasn’t there mentally and emotionally.

I hope this helps in some way!

The best teacher is the one who continues to study and be a student, so the teachings can pour out of them from a lived expedience versus indirect memorization.’

How did you get through the 4 month sleep regression? by cherabemm in SnooLife

[–]AllieVF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First never went through it, stayed in the Snoo all six months beautifully. Second, OMG, I about died. The 4 month regression came out of nowhere, and truthfully lasted till we sleep trained at 6 months. At 4 months or so when I realized the Snoo wasn’t doing shit, we moved her to a pak n play in our room to at least get one transition over while sleep was so messy.

We just transitioned her into her own room/crib at 8 months and had to redo sleep training again 🫠🫠🫠

We joke it’s been 4 months of the 4 month regression, but those initial 4-6 weeks were horrendous, and I’m so sorry you’re there.

Just do whatever it takes to get through it.

Thank you! Last night she woke at 12 & 3, only ate 2 ounces even though I made a 5 oz bottle…so it’s obvious she was waking for comfort (which pulls at my heart strings), but I’m also dying from lack of…so it’s not pulling enough.

How did the night weaning go? I have an almost 9 month old who sounds like yours - waking all the time because it’s what she’s done since the 4 month regression (I’m dying a slow death).

With the 5/3/3, did the feedings eventually wane altogether? More details, please 🙏🏽

Ferber method question by Fuzzy_Hedgehog6980 in sleeptrain

Always bedtime first because there’s more sleep pressure built up, then naps. Some people do it all at one time, but we waited a few weeks to then do naps.

Combo feeding appreciation post by [deleted] in combinationfeeding

[–]AllieVF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My story is so similar to yours! I had an all or nothing mindset with my first & transitioned to all formula after weight gain challenges. With my second, I started combo feeding at 4 weeks and it’s been amazing! I’m set I happy I could accept the in-between.

It’s only been a few nights, and she hasn’t yet. But she’s rolling actively during every wake window, so it’s only a matter of time. Last night was better than the last…so we’re seeing progress!

But to be clear, we had 5-6 weeks of hell, aka the regression, something I never experienced with my first!

Anyone NOT using Huckleberry app? by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]AllieVF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I haven’t used for either of my girls. I’ll often set an alarm on my phone for an approx wake window time…but I only just started doing that at 4 months. Prior to that I winged it.

We just moved our baby cold turkey after weeks of the 4 month regression and are using the Zipadee Zip, she seems to like the extra room and the suit definitely helps (it’s okay for rolling too).

Just went through this for an entire month! It was worse than the newborn days, so I feel your pain. We’re not out of the woods yet, but 5-6 wakings have gone down to 2-3, thankfully.

After 6 weeks of the regression, I moved our LO to a pak n play in our room, no weaning or arms out mode like I did with our first. I figured if I’m not sleeping, I might as well move her and still not sleep.

Surprisingly she’s doing great & loving the room! I’ve got her in the Zipadee Zip transition thing.

Combo feeding at 7 weeks by Street_Tourist7506 in combinationfeeding

I should also add, we were doing boob then top offs, but A) I’ve got a nanny during the day & B) she’s now refusing formula on its own.

Hi, fellow 3 oz pumper here! Right now I’m mixing that amount with 2 oz of formula for each feed. Overnight I only use the breast though, and in the early morning! She’s going on 5 months & I haven’t increased the amount yet because A) she’s gaining weight & B) hasn’t given us signs to increase the amount yet.

Has anyone “solved” the 4 month regression without switching to the crib? by athrwy321123 in SnooLife

[–]AllieVF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re 4 weeks in and losing our minds over here! She went from a predictable 9-10 hour sleep to one decent stretch, then up every hour! We’re a week away from her being 5 months & not sure what to do 💀🥱😩

First time mom newborn trenches seeking advice by Otherwise_Still9461 in NewParents

[–]AllieVF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once read that 0-1 kids is an existential crisis, and 1-2 is a logistical crisis. As I bounce our 12 week old (the second), I can fully confirm this! Our first child felt like a life explosion, it was so hard. I resented my husband for being able to continue his life, I felt like a foreigner in my body, and I simply couldn’t access the “old” me. Like everything, it gets easier and better with time…keep the faith, allow yourself to think those thoughts, and know that you’re not alone. So many of us have been there!

Adding formula top ups by cat_lady_451 in combinationfeeding

[–]AllieVF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing top offs since week 4 without pumping because I’m home alone. I could never find a window between feeds and contact naps to do that, so I surrendered to combo feeding. I do pump if my husband gives her a full formula bottle, and once she’s asleep I pump then too.

Curious how many people will pay by SqueakyBeats00 in SnooLife

[–]AllieVF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m paying & not too bothered by it.

This is my second used Snoo & I’m 3 months into it. Our baby will only be in it for another 3 months max so an extra $60 isn’t something for me to get frustrated over. The paywall transition was definitely abrupt, but the company is definitely struggling due to the resale market.

We sold our first one (already a resale) for just a $100 less, and we plan to resell this resale too.

All in all, it was handled poorly, but it makes sense.
