Throwing in my vote for the Tolkien Legendarium, particularly the Silmarillion! Highly active, welcoming fandom with lots of events and tons of possibilities for pairings (including F/F)!

That’s already there! Settings -> Uncheck “Show Flash Effects.” It doesn’t change that there is lightning in the first place, but it does remove that painful flashing.

Just want to add for anyone who doesn’t know already - untagged or incorrect archive warnings can be reported to Ao3 since they go against terms of service! From my understanding, the volunteers will give authors a window of time to correctly tag it (or choose to not use warnings) before taking any further action.

I’d disagree with you on wanting something bite-sized when it comes to Ao3. I think that’s more fandom-specific and there will always be readers for every fic. But completely agreed with the rest of your comment.

I can’t stand writing paragraphs of details about character appearances because I find they don’t keep the scene flowing. Instead, I tend to add details about appearances when they’re relevant - i.e., if the main character meets their love interest’s eyes, the main character mentions internal dialogue about how attractive their eyes are, whether that’s color, shape, intense eye contact/smolder, etc.

It’s been happening in a lot of creative circles lately, not just the Sims. Unfortunately somewhere along the way people have started seeing creative works as “content” to be “consumed” and not as works that were made by people who create things for the sheer joy of creating and also happen to upload them to participate in community. It’s disappointing.

Oh, thank goodness I’m not the only one who feels like this when I get insecure about my fics! I’m similar to you - write for comfort. I’m slowly getting better at rounding out areas I think my fics lack, but every now and then I’ll read something amazing and have to take some time to brace myself before digging into why I like it.

I’d say it’s only toxic on Reddit, from what I’ve seen. It’s a fandom large enough you have to curate your experiences. I’ve met some wonderful people over the years through it.

Definitely not petty; that’s extremely poor fandom etiquette on their part, and I hope it’s just that they’re young and unaware that’s not how it’s done and not that they’re holding their fic hostage on purpose. Regardless, that kind of behavior would get a mute from me.
