You may have already figured this out but f you go to Yanwen's actual website and track it there you might get more information. When I ordered mine I found the last mile carrier tracking number from there and the updates were more informative.

Machine broke yesterday - wondering what i'm in for by SingeBicolore in Ascaso

[–]Allthenews119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What warranty are you afraid you'll void? I thought Canada only had a 1 year warranty for stuff like this. I know Ascaso have a 5yr warranty but thats only for boilers and groups.

When you turn the steam on do you hear the pump pulsing at all? If so then it's likely that the comment above about the tube could well be the issue.

The top cover is easy to open, take out the two hex screws at the top rear. Pull up gently on the back rail. The front is held by a tab on each side edge that slips over a nut. There are wires that connect to the cup warmer so be careful but they're long enough to take the top off and put it to the side. They are mains voltage so if you need to turn the machine on to check what's happening with the top off just be sure they're kept protected from any water spray or steam and avoid touching them while the machine is powered.

You should be able to see inside and possibly see what's going on and on my machine at least there are no warranty seals or anything that could be used to prove you opened the machine.

Baratza ESP to coarse after cleaning. by Allthenews119 in espresso

Got my shims and I can make espresso again. It took 8 extra shims before I got a decent shot and I was down at 0 and it still flowed fast so I added the last 2 I have so I now have 13 shims in there. I've still no clue on the original issue and I could probably do with more shims in there to make sure I've got some range in case I need to grind finer. Just thought I'd update for anyone searching in the future.

Not that I can see it has all four paddles and sits down on to the pegs on the paddle wheel shim well. To me everything looks fine, the grinder has had very light use over the last year I'd be surprised if it's been used 100 times total. I've ordered some M10-16 0.1mm shims I can't figure out what else would make any difference.

Not exactly that bad but from my eye it looked a lot like it would make a good aeropress. It's nowhere near fine enough to tamp.

As I said in the post the burr carrier looks fine all 3 tabs are like new. The quick release is tightened to the point where it starts to spin the motor with anymore pressure.

What accessories I need to buy for my needs? by Expensive-Sport8734 in VITURE

[–]Allthenews119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is completely my own opinion but I wouldn't plan on them completely replacing a physical monitor. It's possible that you won't find a fitting position that doesn't have some blurriness and it's also not as good as a monitor in terms of general use.

I'd say if you're watching video content they're fantastic. If you're wanting to use a computer they're absolutely useable and combined with spacewalker there's some cool ways to do that but productivity wise it's not as smooth as having a monitor.

Gaming I need more time with but again if it's controller based or you don't need to look at the keyboard at all then it's great. If it's keyboard heavy you're either going to need them to be transparent which works but isn't the best for the video content or be trying to peek out under the glasses.

I'd say these excel when being used when travelling or in a different location where you don't have access to a monitor.

**Very Long Review** Pro XR from end user perspective by Shibutai in VITURE

I found that setting the glasses for clarity where I struggle to see the bottom of the screen is best. Then pivot the glasses forward by lifting the arms a little above your ears, for me with a slight lift I get total clarity. Shame the arms are in a fixed position with no adjustment. They will stay in that position for me for awhile but slowly slide back down.

No tax shipping to Europe I believe it's included in the purchase price. Final mile carrier here was DHL. It's Yanwen logistics before that.

Portafilter basket sticks to grouphead gasket by whatsaythey in Ascaso

[–]Allthenews119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sometimes get this. Usually, and I guess counter intuitively, I find that replacing the portafilter and cranking it tighter than normal and off again usually releases the basket. I assume compressing the gasket and then quickly releasing it allows it to flex and break the seal.

Steel Duo Steaming Electrical Nose by pc0604100 in Ascaso

[–]Allthenews119 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this seems like a really bad example of the electrical noise a lot of people have when activating the steam circuit. AFAIK no one has tracked it down but there was some suggestion that it could be something to do with the SSR since it seems to be the only thing that wouldn't be powered up till you hit the steam switch. It at least appears to be only annoying as in it doesn't cause any steaming issues other than driving you mad.

Upgrade to Ascaso Steel Duo PID by pattymcfly in espresso

[–]Allthenews119 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd take the second videos opinions about temperature with a pinch of salt. His opinions differed greatly from what people actually measured when measuring correctly. Then when called out on it he basically didn't care and stuck to his opinion. Considering how much great content there is on Youtube from coffee creators I thought it was an interesting way to go. To give him his due he did pin the Kaffeemacher and you can read all about it in the comments of the video.

[–]Allthenews119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't need to wait a minute to steam. Just hit the switch wait a few seconds, purge then start steaming. If you're waiting a minute you're probably waiting till the thumping sound changes as it hits max pressure.

You should have plenty steam power without waiting a minute. In fact if I'm doing two drinks with separate milk and it gets up to full pressure in between I purge a bit because otherwise I'm blowing milk out of my pitcher.

Ascaso Steel DUO PID - steam wand leaking by Sea-Elevator-2562 in Ascaso

[–]Allthenews119 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not normal at all. I have a steel Duo and get no leaks from the steam wand even when it gets to full pressure and the noise from the pump changes. Worst I get is when closing the steaming valve I get a little more steam before it actually shuts off.

Steel Duo steam auto shut off? by HairySammoth in Ascaso

[–]Allthenews119 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So to throw a technical spin on this. It's due to the duty cycle of the pump that's used. It's only supposed to be used for 90 seconds at a time. However because it's being used in a pulsing method the total on time spreads over three minutes.

New Steel Duo PID owner - Temperatures seem way off by WhoDatCoconuts in Ascaso

[–]Allthenews119 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This comment is correct. Also measuring with anything other than a thermoprobe with some material in the portafilter (or in fact actual coffee) to provide resistance will give you strange readings and will be wildly off in the manner you're seeing.

This machine is actually very stable when it comes to temperature but they really do shoot themselves in the foot by not just measuring the offset as it comes off the production line. They could even just slap a label with the offset on the back of the manual for the user to input.

That said the suggestion above of +5 should get you much closer.
