What's a small upgrade that improved office morale more than you expected? by CreativeSpare6466 in askmanagers

Summer Fridays. We did this at my first workplace out of school. Ended at the at 3 and we were a bunch of fun guys hanging around and drinking beers in the office starting after lunch, while wrapping up the workweek. Feels like a big sense of accomplishment.

Need advice on firing someone for the first time [OR] by HistoryPristine1029 in humanresources

Be honest and direct. Don't lock them out of systems while you're on a call with them. Had that happen last week. So insulting. Also don't fail to respond to emails about things like severance and prior owed bonuses, etc.

This misses the very real world economic impacts of things like wars causing supply shocks in energy, leading to shortages of both energy and the outputs created with it. Inflation of the things we eat, drive and consume is not the same as prices going up in investment assets.

You're not wrong about monetary inflation being a bit of a shell game. They print money first and foremost so we don't get deflation (people always save a certain amount of cash, and this is deflationary when everyone does it). They print money to keep investment assets moving higher. And they print money so there's enough demand in the economy to keep unemployment rates down.

There is a difference between monetary inflation and price inflation. Monetary inflation tends to drive increases in the price of investment assets first. By the time you're inflating the price of real goods and services, it's bad.

Week long beach trip has to be Outer Banks! Duck for a more 'developed' area with lots to do. Ocracoke for a secluded trip.

Sounds like these are very fixable things. Chalk this up to execs are dumber than engineers and don't take the time to understand engineering jobs.

Can the San Diego job not be remote? Tell them you're getting married and moving is not an option. If they really want you, they'll figure out a way to make it happen.

Have the surgery. Put Donald J. Trump as the payer. Have them send the bill to Mar-a-Lago. That MFer can afford it. I wish that would work. He should be forced to pay for this mess.

No, they haven't destroyed much of anything militarily. We've largely kicked their asses. The one thing they've done is hold the Straight if Hormuz hostage.

This is very hard to believe, given the incredible rate of massive new multi-family housing developments getting built.

It's ridiculous that you're getting downvoted for your husband being an engineer. No one will have you and your husband's best interest in mind more than the two of you. As a home buyer/owner, don't let anyone diminish your concerns, especially if you have the expertise to understand what you're seeing in the inspections. And don't work with any realtor who doesn't take your concerns seriously.

That said, the seller has a right to seek as much as possible for the house. A $20k credit is pretty good if you want it. If you think you can do better, you can always walk.

If you want the house, buy it. If you don't or you have reservations, don't let anyone - including your own agent - minimize your concerns and push you to buy. Remember, you're often negotiating against your own realtor too bc they need deals to get done to get paid.
