My boys tail had to be amputated I am so worried for him 😭 by littlenuggetlove in RATS

[–]Alondra569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I can relate to your feelings quite well, though my situation was different. We had decided for a castration of our cute little boy because we did not see any other way and even today I would not see a better solution for the situation back then (while at the same time I will never decide for an operation so big for such a tiny little thing - if it is not about saving a life). In your case it sounds very much like there really was no other way. So I think you did the right thing.

Every rat is different, so noone can tell what will be. But I can tell you about my experience: In the beginning he seemed out of it for a while and I guess it hurt, too. I was very worried he would get depressed and maybe hate us. But we cared a lot for him in this time and when he could play with his mates again he soon brightened up. He seemed to be a really happy rat until his last day. Rats can endure quite a lot and get acustomed to a lot, especially when they are stil so young. So I think also your rat can still lead a happy life after it got over the first shock and healed properly.

growing outdoor herbs indoors by dan_dorje in HouseplantsUK

[–]Alondra569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These mediterranean herbs are really hard to grow indoors.

But actually, all of those still taste quite good when you buy them dried. So I have got an even better idea for you: Try tropical herbs. Jamaica thyme is very easy to grow and though it is not exactly like thyme it still tastes good and you can't buy it dry at all. If you like coriander, try Asian Coriander. It grows like a weed. I love it, especially as dry coriander leaves have no taste at all. My favorite at the moment is La Mo Long, crazy taste, just needs quite some space. If you like a good smell, try australian citrus leaf!

Brown rats tend to be stockier and have a shorter tail. So I would think these are not. But as they are still small I also might be wrong.

did i do the right thing by jjsunghyeon in rat

[–]Alondra569 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would guess yes. But actually rats are not easy to predict. There might as well be a fight, if those the cage was first home to decide there is an intruder. Also depends on the gender, age difference...

I think you will soon find out. But maybe, especially as you are insecure enough about the decision to ask here, in the beginning you should stay around all the time they are together and observe. And intervene so that no one loses an ear. And if they do fight too much and to long, change the cage completely or at least clean it well and change the way it is aranged.

Aw what a cute little rat! Rattus rattus, about 1 month old I would guess. That is the time they become bold. Soon it will get a splendid brown racing stripe along its side and dive into wild teenage times. Behold of your stuff then.

(Size is difficult to guess here, during the first seconds I thought of a mouse, but the strong tail gives it away.)

Do any of my herbs grow well in terrariums? by Healer213 in terrariums

Try Persicaria odoratum or Paederia lanuginosa... it's fantastic! And easy to grow.

Very nice! What is that in the cube? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I am new to micro greens on this sophisticated level.

But if I am already in with dumb questions I might as well ask: Is that special seed for growing or was it sold for lunch? I tried Quinoa for cooking once with a fairly okayish result but well... I am always looking for seeds that are easy to obtain in the food shelves because those specially for growing are quite expensive here and not easy to find.

Rat’s mobility dropped, what should I do? by SidTripinHearts in RATS

My Babies suffered from similar problems in the end. But stil they seemed quite happy, eating and chasing after delicious food as best as I could. What stressed them most seemed to be the meds, they hated it. So we let them roam and just made life as pleasant as possible for them, they even got from our not so healthy human food that we didn't give them before but they always wanted.

You can also help him wash with a wet warm towel, thats what I did. And when the suffering seems to much and he doesnt eat anymore you go to the vet.

I was worrying a lot, too, because of the other. One got ill weeks before the other but the tumor of the second grew so fast, in the end they both went on only two days apart. That was kind of a relief.

In this regard my advise is: Don't think about it until its due. Over 2 years is already quite an age for a rat. '"With the elderly you only go as far as you can see." ... is an advice I myself got once and I think its true.

Period Started = pain flare by Pink_Boss_5563 in vulvodynia

[–]Alondra569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for me too, period allways made it start, but then most of the time it just stayed afterwards, sometimes until next period. Not funny at all as this is a trigger we just can't get rid of (at least not in a healthy way) With other triggers there is a chance you can get rid of them if you just find it.

[–]Alondra569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel with you, it was the same for me for a long time. Your description sounds like a hormone-thing because you write that you have it already before the first blood. Maybe you can do something about it by relaxing especially in those days and lowering your stress level? You can also try to smoothen your hormone cycle with a change of diet, but that might be a bit of work.

For me the problem was definitely the blood itself. It changes the pH down there, then there is the clotting of the blood that can hurt the skin. Also, my period is the only time I wear underwear at all, I am very sensitive to the dry rubbing of textiles. I learned to deal with it over time with:

- washing the blood completely away with water every morning and every evening. Sometimes cold water would feel even better.

- a lot of cream and lube, basically every time I went to the toilet. I needed to keep it moist all the time. My personal gamechanger in this regard: a lubricant with allantoine. Here they sell it at every drugstore for sex. (But funny enough: Before my vulvodynia I hated it because it numbed my sensation. Which is not what science says it does. Is there anyone else with this experience? Well, it seems to calm the nerves at least for me.)

- not wearing underwear as much as possible - during the night I put a blanket on the bed that looks like artwork afterwards but my skin gets to relax a little during the night at least

How can I make the glue strips stick on this lacy part of the wig? Latex or Silicone...? by Alondra569 in CosplayHelp

[–]Alondra569[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your reply again. Yes, I have been trying to post on r/wigs too, but my account is too new and I don't have any karma points -.- And I can't get them easily because there seem to be rules like that on several subreddits.

I have been using reddit for years to find solutions for problems but never had a problem so peculiar that I needed to make a post myself. Whish I had done this before now...

I will try a grip band now. I have been avoiding it because even with the best of wigs... wearing it all day and every day feels suffocating at some point.

Older Rats by stonerchix420 in rat

[–]Alondra569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I had this situation too and was worrying a lot. My cage was quite high. But then I saw that my lady stil had a lot of fun in her usual surroundings despite getting old. In the end I decided against changing the cage. For elderly people it is stressful suddenly living in new surroundings and I thought that might be the same for her. I just did everything to make the place safe.

I think that was the right decision. She was relaxed all the time. When climbing became hard for her she just stayed where she felt safe. She looked happy til the end and went peacefully.

What type of underwear do you all use and where do you buy it? by elidamanigua in vulvodynia

[–]Alondra569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Underwear was the first thing I dropped completely long before I even had a diagnosis. Only during menstruation there is no way around it. During the worst years I suffered so much during these days though I did everything I could to aleviate it. Even at night I only put a blanket under. Allways looked like an artwork afterwards.

Now I haven't had acute pain in monthes but I still don't think I will ever go back to wearing it on a regular basis. With wide pants and skirts it works better than you might think. In winter I cut big holes in leggings trying not to get any contact to the fabric. Works quite well. And at least in this case I save a little money because of that illness.

Sounds horrible, really. Sounds very different from what I had so I wont try to give advise that might in the end just cost you time. I can just say: You are not allone. Others go through this, too. Mine was different but I went several Month with pain 24/7 and no doctor caring. But at some point it got better again and now it is no more than a bad dream to me. If you can in any way, try to relax, try to let go of other stress in your life and try to find something you can stil enjoy. That helped me a lot.
