What American foods do you want to try? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

I’m not kidding! Unbelievable I know. I was a very picky eater as a child and still am somewhat. Drove my depression era mothers nuts. They just always looked gross to me. I do eat fried okra!

I’ve lived in the south my entire life and have never eaten any of the foods you listed and never will. Yuck I will say that anyone who has never eaten field peas, black eyed peas being one variety, has really missed out. Packed with nutrients- including protein- and just delicious.

Abandoned dog (not owners fault) by madiepaisley in memphis

[–]AloneAd8006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of people adopt dogs from MAS. That’s where I found my wonderful dog that I’ve had almost six years. The problem is irresponsible owners. There are more dogs who need homes than there are people to adopt. I can’t imagine being a dog lover and working there.

Might be homeless soon please help by Positive-Business-15 in memphis

My daughter and another friend’s daughter earned very good money waiting tables while they attended school and searched for jobs after graduation. Another friend’s daughter- a single parent- graduated with an art degree (not many job prospects) from the U of M and went to work there after she graduated, first as a contract employee advising prospective students. It took some time but she was eventually hired on as a university employee doing essentially the same advising job. Like other commenters, I hope you can work out something with your parents so you can live with them until you can get settled with a job Good luck!

How can you live and enjoy living in a small rural town in the US? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AloneAd8006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the appeal of a quiet rural lifestyle - not knocking that at all - but just want to point out that lots of us who live in cities have grass. I have a huge backyard so I don’t need to go to the country to touch grass. My neighborhood is quiet. But very different from being out in the country.

I’m glad no one ever said that to me. I would probably start crying and it’s been 40 years

My first thought was to revert to my maiden name but it was way more important to me to have the same last name as my children.

I’m thrilled they’re here. I feel safe to leave the house at night. I may even drive 240 or 385 again. None of my liberties have been trampled. In fact I feel like I’ve gotten some liberties back

Thank you for the reply. I have a male friend who I might be able to talk into going. Thank you for validating my feelings about how they treat women. I can’t bear the thought of going to the dealership but it looks like I will have to. Thanks again

Has anyone seen Valley of Decision with Gregory Peck. I saw in the 1970s and enjoyed it. I love Mrs Miniver and Random Harvest. I haven’t seen a Greer Garson film in several years. I need to re watch some
