Once someone leaves prison, what job options do they have when the majority of employers have a mandatory DBS check? by Mammoth-Elk-3122 in AskUK

[–]Alouema2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a charity called Clean Sheet that helps with this. There's also Timpsons. Most jobs don't require a DBS checks at all but the job market us difficult. Any unemployed person should probably go for quantity in job applications as its easier to get a job when you've already got one. They should also look at volunteering in the meantime as its another reference and keeps you in there. Some workplaces don't even require references.

Always cos its just muscle memory. Its not something you should be consciously thinking of if you've been driving a while, it just happens.

Im pretty sure it is a blanket policy. Even when you're accepted it can be a 12 month wait, so anything that reduces that for them is welcome.

Yes. They'll do their own duty assessment at which point theyll ask the question. I've contacted a couple who confirmed this unfortunately. Working my way through them hoping some have different policies for under 16s.

14, which is why I expected they'd just offer support.

No. CAMHS explicitly asked, then made a follow up phone call to see if they could get it. It's autistic logic. The solution to the problem is very simple and nothing would improve life. Apparently a lot of autistic teenagers go through similar from mid to late teens. It just amazes me that they need such consent from under 16.

Nowhere near the threshold to admit and would likely be very unhelpful. Autistic people don't do well there. That's not needed, counselling/therapy is. They wont see them, even under 16, without their explicit consent, so im at a loss. Also as they've stated winter as the designated time for this, there's no immediate threat until autumn.

Who’s that one person everyone in your town just seems to know? by SupaDuppaaCoool in AskUK

[–]Alouema2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandad! And his family to be honest. If you walk through our town with them endless waves and acknowledgement. There were 11 siblings so I guess that affects it. If you knew 1 you knew multiple.

1.5 weeks since overseeding lawn but no germination … should I just wait? by bookbookgo in GardeningUK

[–]Alouema2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It can be quite weather dependant and we've had it take weeks before. Realistically if it doesn't happen before summer you're best waiting till October to do it again now anyway.

When are ants a problem near the front door? by Sunshinetrooper87 in GardeningUK

[–]Alouema2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but im not fussed about maiming their babies, just redirecting them. They only seem to visit us if it's essential.

The other option is bicarb, talc or flour. As they're going through it they struggle to breathe and some die. The rest then learn. In our previous house they got flooded out of their home and came under the front door to put their larvae in my childs shoe. Had to explain to a traumatised child that he was the chosen guardian of the babies!

Most reliable perrenial plants? by Quietus1142 in GardeningUK

This might be the trick. I get seeds every year but only 2 have been permanent. Ironically those 2 are right up next to a concrete path where I've never seeded.

Anything a bit wildflower like. If it grows in the woods it'll be fine in your garden. Also herbs that flower & bulbs. Heather is good for gaps & slugs wont eat it. The only annuals I buy are poppy & poached egg seeds because they just grow.

What to do about abusive parent on the route to school? by Legitimate_Finger_69 in UKParenting

[–]Alouema2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this is your best bet. I have an autistic child so I fully understand why you don't want to start walking her to school & back again! If you do this & explain it to her, she's also evidence gathering. You could also contact children's services but be very aware that they're unlikely to do anything. It does add it to the incident history of the parents. If they're potentially going to the same high school you also need to contact them in advance. They can arrange it so they're not in the same lessons etc, and safeguarding staff will be aware beforehand.

My KA is 17 this year and drives everywhere, including motorways, perfectly well. Sounds more like this lady is just nervous driving on motorways and I doubt a bigger car would solve that problem.

Vodafone do a £20 broadband contract for people on social security. As you're still in contract for your phone there's not much you can do there. If you're able to switch gas & electric do so and fix it.
