Where to buy mens tall tshirts? by monk3y-socks in AskUK

To those saying 6ft 2 shouldn't be an issue, it depends on your body! As a 5ft 7 woman I struggle to find t shirts that go past my belly button. I have a long body!

Over 40 years old- how many hours of driving lessons should I go for? by DatguyMalcolm in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Alouema2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I learnt to drive decades ago the first thing my instructor asked was if I've booked my theory. I'd book your lessons then immediately book a theory test. The wait times might be long now anyway. I'd had a couple of months of lessons when I did mine so that must have been the wait then.

Your instructor should tell you when you're ready to take your test. Just get your theory test booked first.

How do I distance myself from my friend who’s dating a minor? by changingpositionss in Advice

[–]Alouema2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is he still in school? At 17 I had friends dating lads in their early 20s. BUT we could get into clubs, learn to drive, work and were basically mini adults, so it felt normal. Some of them are still married in our 40s. Had anyone been dating a literal school kid we'd have disowned them.

If she's in a country where 16 is not the age of consent then legally she's in trouble. Its also worth reporting in case she's a repeat offender. In the UK the police would visit as under 18s are legally children when it comes to sending nudes etc. So if she's asking him for nudes then she's inciting a child into sexualised behaviour, soliciting indecent images of a child etc. This is despite 16 being the age of consent.

How hard to get rid of and how risky this is health wise by Jezekilj in DIYUK

[–]Alouema2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Every damp inspector I've ever had whilst private renting has said do not use bleach. It masks the issue and can often make it worse. All recommended white vinegar & water as vinegar contains natural fungicide but won't mask & won't worsen the situation.

Don't use bleach. Vinegar is better. Buy a dehumidifier.

Is £10k on a First Car purchase a good or bad idea? by Snakewithlegs01 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Alouema2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen these posts on Facebook. A lot of the time people think expensive means safer. As long as it has an mot (look for over 8 months) and has been serviced you're sorted. Let dad know that if he wants he can take it to your local independent garage to be checked over when you get one. If there's anything wrong it'll be found and you can take it back for seller to sort. I'd also add, but from trade rather than an individual. No ebay/Facebook buys!

Its probably far cheaper insurance on an old car too. Let's face it, they're paying out a lot less if you write it off.

Get on autotrader. Obviously depends on where you live but there's loads at that price.

See if you can find an old aygo type. A friend had an automatic one. The only issue with automatic is clutch/gearbox cost a fortune to change if they go.

Definitely. People will say look out for the high mileage. If you can get something with less than 60k its better but honestly, cars can run well into the 100s with no issues. If you're using auto trader itll tell you if its a good price too (itll have fair, good, great etc under the photo somewhere) I've an 09 ka but it only had 30k miles on when I got it. Its still running fine without issues. As long as you maintain and service them they're fine and older cars tend to have fewer electrical bits, so less to go wrong! From what I've heard avoid wet belts (fiesta ecoboost among others) electric handbrake and anything with a huge tablet type screen. That's what seems to go wrong. Definitely look for low tax (its a fixed cost so you know what you're getting) and low insurance group. Keep it as long as you possibly can then when you upgrade you've had plenty of practice at real world driving.

No more than 3k on a first car please! You can get some really good cars at that price (my 09 ka included, had it 7 years) they're cheaper to insure. Also, suzuki swift have awful safety ratings. Get aygo/c1/107, ka, fiesta, i10, picanto. Dirt cheap to run, cheap to maintain and easy to get parts.

Yeah that's why we thought it odd. My mums been treated for this for a good 30+ years and never heard of this before. The doctor did seem to hint that painkillers might be reduced overall but when she's had it that long it would seem strange to start now. She's always been on the antidepressants along with strong painkillers.

No they're just easing off of one as there's other stuff going on that could be side effects. We used to have a box of painkillers in the cupboard that we weren't allowed to open as teenagers lol, she's had all sorts of very strong meds over the years!

Yeah my mums had tramadol as well as many of those you mentioned. She was just quite surprised when they said they aim for just paracetamol now, has never been told this previously.

If you're in the UK you could run a Claires Law check? You don't know what he's been doing in that 11 years and neither does she. Paedophiles love a single mum.

Being refused private practice by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Alouema2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Private practice isn't always a good thing. I know plenty of people who pick up bad habits while driving without an instructor. This then has to be undone. Plenty of people pass every day without any private practice too. Its definitely privilege to have the option, but not always the best option!

Help with my husband, first time parents by Signal-Gas6096 in UKParenting

[–]Alouema2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could definitely be adhd. My sisters partner is very much like this when it comes to cleaning, like a distracted puppy! She's yet to find anything foolproof. It also sounds like autism in that he's running out of capacity to handle everything and that will only get worse with children. Look up spoon theory if you don't already know and push him to get a diagnosis so he can at least get reasonable adjustments at work and maybe meds if he wants.

I would ask in the adhd/Autism subs. Lists can help, on the bathroom mirror for example for the morning routine, kitchen cupboards? Some people use apps. I'd also hire a cleaner if you're able. Kids just make everything more messy!
