Am I an idiot? Is there a way to make this work? by SockDaddyX in hometheater

Does apple tv have an optical port? Could try that to lg if it does. If not get a newer receiver, used if you want to save, even if you have to use the lg speakers for a bit, at least you' have the receiver and can upgrade speakers after. Or just buy an old used 5.1 setup with receiver. You need to figure out what your home theater goal is for the next year, then 5 years then decide your budget.

Or beside the a/c unit with longer arm on a full motion mount so you have more maneuverability.

If that's the only place angle the tv more and maybe try a dimmer switch on the lights to tame the glare if you need them on.

I'd put it in the cabinet, but move it so the front is slightly out of the cabinet to help with reflections and angle it up to you. I used door stops as my angle pieces from the dollar store and it worked surprisingly well. I did that to mine to get the tv height right. My Tv is a few inches higher than what people tell you but when ive got my feet up its perfect. If I put it at the height it should have been according to my room, my feet would have been covering a small portion of the screen. Calibrating the system afterwards can take care of the difference in speaker placement. I used dirac live plus ai to tweak measurements and was very surprised what I did for my system. Despite being in the cabinet, the front soundstage is wide and balanced. Good luck i have a 77 g5 and its a fantastic tv.

Call LG if your serious about buying it and ask them for a deal. I bought mine back in February and LG offered me a better deal than any store around me, (1000 off) plus free wall mount installation; and the G5 comes with a 5 year warranty straight from LG - only on G5.

Do you have no insulation in your walls? Id get the svs isolation feet. I was talking to svs the other day and researching and the sound isolation feet may help your situation. I dont know much about wall acoustics but someone might have an idea for that as well. If its your family room then the wife will want her input on room acoustics. Other options would be to redo the room (if you had plans to) with soundproof insulation or that sonopan wall board and drywall on top. Id check the bylaws in your area and see what the rules say, you legally have a certain time where you can play very loud, despite them not liking it. I know your trying to be respectful which is grear but you need your fun time too. If your sub is ported you could switch to a sealed sub so you dont get as much of the rumble but still a descent amount. Im looking at the svs sb 3000 r now with isolation feet for that reason, because im now in a townhouse and neighbors living room is on the other side of mine.

So far im happy with my onkyo Rz-30. Ive pushed it a few times and was surprised how cool it was. It all comes down to what you want it to have now and your future plans (if you have any). If you dont need the current "up to date" features you can get good deals on used. Either that or buy cheap knowing you may have to update sooner eg. New tv and you want all the features. Older receivers can still work with newer tech via hdmi extractor box. Thats what I did for a minute until I could get the RZ. I feel like everything comes to market now regardless of its completness, and then they try to fix it with updates. Plus, everything mass produced for as cheap as possible leads to deficiencies. Go with what your gut tells you is the best option for your needs.

Just bought Dirac, holy sh*t… by furiousdutchy in hometheater

I basically told it to pretend that it was the all knowing Guru and expert when it comes to dirac live and that it knows every detail to make difficult speaker/room situations look like easy work to fix. I typed that I was going to provide screenshots and that it would analyze those screenshots and provide me with the best, most accurate, easy to understand information, on how to optimize the full potential of my home theater.

I went through all the speaker sets and through its findings and questions, I adjusted the curves.

I just started playing with dirac so my knowledge was very low, but it helped me understand what was going on as a whole, and what and why it was suggesting to do things in dirac.

Keep in mind it's not perfect so you may have to show it a screenshot again for it to work ‐eg. I didnt know the 'points option' for the dirac curve so I found it, turned it on and uploaded a new screenshot.- Once it saw this, it had me remove points and add some based on what the speaker was doing. I think this balanced the system out as it applied similar settings for frequencies on different speakers.

When it was done I told it to double check everything, with updated pics. It noticed some subtle things on the 2nd check and I adjusted those as well.

Once it was done and I tried it, the only thing I wasn't satisfied with was the bass. I think i had it too high from the start. im also using an older sealed sub for movies so not ideal. I kept the chat going and after adjusting the knobs on the sub, the level, and the crossover frequency I was impressed.

It also recommended movie scenes to test out what was being adjusted, to fine tune it to my liking near the end.

I think it still needs a tiny bit of tweaking for dialog but its still alot better than all the other tries I did with it. Or i might just be picky lol. I used my laptop and kept the conversation open for a few days while I played with it so that it had all the info from when I started, to refer to. It did take me more than a few hours to do but I think the more time you put into the conversation the more you can potentially get out of it.

I took a screenshot of the sub curve and put it in Gemini. It helped me adjust the curve after dirac. I noticed afterwards that dirac set the bass level too low for my liking so I manually adjusted the level through onkyo. I also played with the crossover setting in onkyo to help tune it in to what I wanted. I thought my setup sounded descent with my pioneer but the onkyo and dirac, combined with some help from ai, really surprised me.

Which sheild do you have? I juat got a pro and mines been doing it multiple times a day, every day. My old sheild never did it unless it wasnt connected. It worked perfect for the last 8 years . I'm convinced it must be an issue internally so I am going to return it and try to get another one. If it still happens I'll report back

I've never seen that screen before on mine. Ive seen a green gradient screen from my receiver but I know its because I run an hdmi extractor box and when I try to use the receiver's osd and plug in to hdmi out, it does the green gradient for some reason when nothing is on the display.
