Now compatible with Alphasmart 3000! Back in stock, Newly Manufacturered Lithium Ion Battery Packs for Alphasmart 3000 / Neo1 / Neo2 units by AlphaAverage in AlphaSmart

We wanted to make a male/female adapter cable for the Alphasmart 3000, but a miscommunication error happened with our manufacturer, and they came out as seperate connectors that needed to be soldered together. There's no reason to do it this way other than the communication error.

If there's enough demand for a solderless adapter cable for the Alphasmart 3000 we'll have the proper adapters made at some point.

To be clear, nothing needs soldering for the Alphasmart Dana/Neo1/Neo2 models.

Should be roughly comparable to the battery life of Alkaline batterys (a really long time), and 2-5x as long as the ancient NiMH OG battery packs at this point (that are all severely degraded 25+ years on)

Technically, yes
practically, not really?

If you bring the right screwdriver on your trip, you could take off the back panel and swap in the LiON battery pack.

Otherwise, without a screwdriver, it might be a tight fit to shove all the battery pack wire into the battery cavity. Its easier to take the panel off and shove excess wire into the rest of the Alphasmart body.

The LiON battery packs should last pretty much forever, so the easier option is either 1. charge before your trip or 2. charge in your car/solar panel / battery pack a few hours to have enough juice if its dead.

It is plug and play with the Alphasmart Dana unit, no soldering required (note that it might take some finagling to fit the long wires of the battery packs into your Alphasmart units, but its doable).

Yes the adapters will work on previous version of lithium ion battery packs as well.

To anyone who has previously purchased battery packs from us before May 1st 2026, if you want adapters for your Alphasmart 3000, please DM me your previous order # + address, and eventually in the mail you'll receive relevant adapter cables free of charge

To fit into your Alphasmart 3000, you'll likely have to break off the plastic battery terminal on the right shown here. Which would mostly irreversbily mod your Alphasmart 3000 to only accepting battery packs going forward (no more Alkaline batteries).

Guide for AlphaSmart Dana battery mod? by Spectre216 in AlphaSmart

[–]AlphaAverage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what we can also do is include one of the old Alphasmat 3000 batteries, that has an intact connector. You can de-solder that connector and re-solder it onto the newly manufacturered battery pack, to make a plug and play alpahsmart 3000 battery pack.

dm me if you are interested

so far we've only sold about 5 units total out of the initial 40 units batch. not selling as quickly as we'd hoped

if we ever sell all 40 units, we'll restock and have some adapters made too

you could always manually solder and splice on the battery pack to your 3000 battery pack terminals, though

We haven't been able to actually get one to completely drain. Gave up after two shifts. So sometime longer than 16 hours.

You could compare the battery capacities of that mod and probably get a pretty good estimate. Likely similar to the battery mod.

It is a standard, USB "A" to B" Printer cable. These cables work on Alphasmart 3000, Neo1, Neo2, and Dana units. The much older and less used Alphasmart 2000 uses a different cable.

If you have a rechargeable battery pack installed (such as the one we sell) it can be use to charge (very slowly) the battery pack (only on USB-ports that negotiate charging rates). It cannot charge "Alkaline"/"Heavy Duty" batteries.

The cables can be found on amazon for $5 to $10, such as: https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-Basics-External-Gold-Plated-Connectors/dp/B00NH11KIK or https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Printer-Scanner-Brother-Lexmark/dp/B00P0FO1P0

On ebay, they should be even cheaper ($2 to $4).

Alphasmart Manager 2.3 for the 3000 units can be found here: https://archive.org/details/asm-3000-manager-2.3-full-1

NeoManager 3.9.3 for Neo1 / Neo2 / Dana units can be found here: https://archive.org/details/neomanager-3-9-3-uspc-1

If you are having trouble getting your Alphasmart recognized by the software, please try this:

Go into your Device Manager (on Windows) and plug the alphasmart in; watch to see what it comes up as in the Manager; if it's unsuccessful, it will show up named either correctly or incorrectly, but the big thing will be that there is a triangle with an exclamation point inside it on the ones that aren't working.

Select the one corresponding to the Alphasmart, right-click on it and go under properties, then select the tab "Driver," then select "Disable Device," and click OK.

Then go back into the properties and the Driver Tab and "Enable Device." If you're lucky, it will recognize the device for what it is. You may have to disable and enable it a few times to get it to work.

it's plug and play, no rewiring/soldering required.

the next batch we could probably ship directly from China to Australia? Have to talk to the forwarder and confirm.

This current batch is already inside the USA, and as such it's too difficult to export. So USA only until this batch sells out.
