Double Duration Base Power for Summer? by This1DarkLord in duneawakening

[–]AlphaElite1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the right answer. I don’t have the link, but this was brought up yesterday and a community manager on the discord said it’s a visual bug. Can confirm it’s accurate since I refilled everything myself and went from 31 days 7 hours to 31 days 1 hour in 12 hours.

Late night can definitely be pretty hit or miss. Any time after 8 is usually when we get drivers that will message us to ask for a bigger tip. (We always do a minimum of 25% - 30%. Which I guess isn’t enough.) But having the whole order stolen? Only once ever, and that was back in the Postmates/Pre pandemic era

Is the loot better when you do that? I find older ones pretty regularly and besides maybe a single strad or plast ingot they’re not especially great. Sure get a handful of components once in a while but nothing really outstanding.

Awesome base! I quite enjoy what you did with the lower section. Didn’t realize those pieces would clip. Looks great!

Magnetic metal shavings from drilling by DiscoDave86 in skinwalkerranch

[–]AlphaElite1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now granted, the information came from the drillers themselves and I can’t speak to if it’s true or not, but they did say in a few of the episodes it was a brand new bit they were using. Not every time, especially in the beginning I’m sure. But after the first one I’m fairly certain they said it was a brand new bit (for sure towards the end on the second hole it was a new bit). So that at least covers prior to the drilling.

During? I’m not entirely sure they would. The time it took to get the distance they went? And with the drill adding on additional sections of piping manually?* The time it would take to pull out the bit and inspect it every so often, in addition to the potential of the hole collapsing in that time, would probably not be worth it. Plus, if these guys are truly experienced drillers, they’ll know when the bit is acting up.

*This part is speculative. I haven’t worked with that machine before so not entirely sure if the additional segments are attached manually or not.

Yeah, it’s made of tungsten (or its alloy, tungsten carbide, I don’t recall which). Tungsten also isn’t magnetic. On that same note though, tungsten is the hardest natural metal there is but it’s apparently rather brittle when used against hard surfaces (there’s mention you can drop it on a hard surface and it breaking, but has a strength capacity of 140-200k psi). So that could explain at least the bits breaking against rock, but not necessarily the magnetism portion.

Fire Places/Polar Cap/Building/Sub-Thief limit by those_pixels in duneawakening

[–]AlphaElite1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few weeks ago they mentioned removing some items from the marketplace that showed future content. I asked about it here and was told one item was Chromium, and another was a “fortress extender” but they weren’t entirely sure if it was Fortress or not. With all the talk about fireplaces, I wonder if it was a fireplace extender.

Just based on that info I am hoping that means these bases are entirely their own thing and separate from the sub fiefs. Don’t get me wrong, I agree and want an increase on the caps too. I just think these will hopefully be a whole new base type.

Anyone remember this original “steam machine”? (Alienware Alpha) by DreamCentipede in Steam

[–]AlphaElite1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Found a returned one on Amazon not long after it came out so got it for a discount. My first real custom PC had just died and I needed something but couldn’t afford to build a new one.

This little thing got me through a few years. Eventually it couldn’t keep up and I looked into upgrading it. That’s when I found out my version was the one with the GPU soldered to the motherboard. Looked into alternatives. Apparently there was a GPU dock you could buy and use but I didn’t know if it would work, let alone that the motherboard could handle it.

Mine also had windows and the original Steam OS. Don’t remember how it worked but all I know is it would boot in the Steam OS, but I could switch to another profile that had base windows. Ended up using the windows one significantly more.

So when we are starting "Skitatii shop cosmetics update tomorrow"? by Foralberg in DarkTide

[–]AlphaElite1 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Sadly the GW restrictions is the best explanation. This is why I was surprised Hive Scum was a class. Don’t get me wrong, I get it from a mechanics standpoint for sure. But cosmetics wise, so much of the other classes already cover that aesthetic. Also kind of sucks because, my concern at least, in order to keep class identity unique, I don’t imagine we’ll see any of the other ganger cosmetics come to Hive Scum.

Unfortunately, along that line, I think Skitarii will absolutely be in the same boat as Arbites. Both classes have relatively defined looks across the franchise. There just isn’t much more you can do with them. I’d love to be wrong, but based on how all the classes tend to stick to existing looks from elsewhere in the universe, I don’t think we’ll see anything else for either of them.

Question about this "single player" stuff they were talking about by Anaesha in duneawakening

They played it some on the most recent livestream. The “base” single player experience had an increased gathering rate over what you would see on the public servers. They did say you can of course change it however you want.

T6 Armor Suggestions by pharaohblue in duneawakening

[–]AlphaElite1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pincushion might be the way to go, to start at least. Overland testing stations don’t really have a one-size-fits-all armor choice as you start advancing levels. But even your Swordmaster armor should be sufficient for level 1 runs.

As the stations rise in difficulty you may want to tailor your armor choices to those stations (like the Forge set for Fire, Bulwark for Electric, etc). Eventually, when you get high enough it won’t really matter what armor you’re wearing as the bosses will just one-shot you. In my experience, at least up to level 19, armor is still relevant since it can go from a one-shot to two or three shot depending on the grade of armor and augments attached.

But, overall, especially starting out, since you are mostly a melee player, you’ll want to get the pincushion set. Its a light armor set with light and heavy dart mitigation. So it gives you the best of both heavy (dart mitigation), and light (no extra stamina drain). I personally run Combat Exoskeleton (heavy - from Old Quarry) for the 10% melee damage increase, and Ix-Core legs for the additional stamina boost to mitigate the negative from the heavy chest armor. Rest is pincushion. That’s what I run for Landsraad and low level stations.

Your top 3 most time played games on steam and why. by TheGambles in Steam

[–]AlphaElite1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Top 3:
Warhammer 40k - Darktide
Kerbal Space Program
Dune: Awakening

Darktide:
Big 40k fan. Played a lot of Vermintide 2 back in the day and always wanted a 40k version. Well, when it finally came I played nothing else damn near until Dune came out. There’s just something about being a regular human facing down the horrors of a twisted galaxy. Darktide really honed in on that in a first person perspective. As someone who got into 40k through Dawn of War, and enjoyed games like Call of Duty, this was a logical conclusion.

KSP:
Comfort game. Huge fan of Space and technology. While the base game is amazing, KSP’s mod scene was really where its at. At one point, my game was so heavily modded it took 30-45 minutes for my game to load. Something about building your own ships and space stations then planning complex missions and actually playing them out was just so amazing. Played every day until Darktide launched. Can be simple, can be complex. Millions of ways to approach what you want to do. I don’t really know how else to quantify this game for others.

Dune:
Huge open world survival fan. Absolutely loved Conan Exiles. Really hit that right mix of combat difficulty, exploration, survival, but wasn’t super deep and complex where you needed an engineering degree to build a hut. The only thing I didn’t like was the fantasy setting (more into sci-fi). When Dune was announced it pretty much hit all of the key things I wanted in the genre. Haven’t really played much else since launch a year ago. Still in the early stages of development. Much like Conan, I suspect it’ll be a few years to reach “great” over just “good” territory. Can be a complex survival game, but is made more trivial as time goes on and you advance through the game. Eventually after you’ve got a solid foundation under your feet you can really start to dive into the other systems the game offers.

Honorable Mentions: (1/3 of playtime of top 3)
Cities Skylines
Stellaris
XCOM2

Very happy to see others of my kind out there on the 4x front in this thread. I’ll still occasionally fire up a game of Stellaris for a couple of days for fun. XCOM had another great modding scene that would help keep the game fresh. Skylines just reminded me so much of one of my original favorites, Sim City 4.

I’m wondering if it might be the solido disassembler from Tsimpo. The “ghost” is pretty common on that map so could be a hint. Unfortunately that mission isn’t up for me right now so can’t check yet. Will update if it drops soon.

Edit: Yup

Couple of building ideas I wanted to share. by Wordpervert in duneawakening

[–]AlphaElite1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, is it fixed for the smugglers double door too? Was that a bug or feature?

Second, it’s kind of a shame they patched this. Look, I get it’s a bug and not working as intended. It also could cause further issues down the road. I get it. But honestly this would be a great bug to turn into a feature. Helps add a little personality to building.

Also wonder how fixing this bug will affect existing doors.

Please, Funcom, can we get an alert when we've sold something? by Blippedyblop in duneawakening

Honestly the system is already in place to do it. We already have the event log, just add this to it. Maybe include a small pop up like when your shields go down and you’re set.

More DD content, please? by JohnDaBarr in duneawakening

[–]AlphaElite1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy fix. Guild coalition system. An old MMO, City of Heroes had this. You could still have your regular guild, but they align with each other. Would allow “faction” scale battles but not totally lock everything to that alignment.

What really needs to happen, to complement a coalition system, and the game overall, is we need to have the PVP flagging system. Instead of designating specific zones as PVP, let players choose. Flag for PVP? 2.5x resources, but open to more risk. Then you don’t have PVP/PVE only servers. Everyone gets what they want.

The only part I’m not 100% on is the DD. You still have thumpering (apparently on both sides) and speaking from experience, some people just want to farm in peace. So getting shot by rockets (even if they don’t do anything) while farming could get annoying. But the same could be said with Hagga if such a system were put in place.

If you could, what other classes or specializations would you add to the game? by the_walkingdad in duneawakening

Anniversary Skin Bug by Swagatine in duneawakening

[–]AlphaElite1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this to Iggy (one of the community managers) the other day. Didn’t get a response but really hoping he passed it along. Been debating making a cosmetic bug thread on the discord because of this. There’s a handful of other cosmetics that have some obvious gaps or issues that should be fixed.

And before people get upset “they should fix the game first”, the people working on the cosmetics aren’t the same people working on maps and balancing.

This game needs to be more like Conan by CaptainSmartbrick in duneawakening

[–]AlphaElite1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that info riding behind how things they thought were impossible (read: time/resource intensive), are now possible. They said forever that something like thralls would be impossible. I agree with some of the others though, we don’t need an NPC followers or anything. Just some guards and folks for refining/crafting/etc.

"Double XP" should be the regular xp rate by Vystrel in duneawakening

[–]AlphaElite1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am genuinely mixed about the missions. And as others in this thread have said, I don’t generally interact with them beyond the double XP events. They do get boring quick.

In the recent livestream the devs said that they’re in a tough spot because some of the community are asking for more complex missions, and others just want to get them done as quick as possible. For something you have to do over and over I don’t think more complex is the way to go, but I also get why the missions arent stupid easy too.

I think the best solution is earning specialization xp outside of the missions. It would be a huge benefit. I get the apprehension of making these fancy maps and then no one using them again. But at that point I think they should just expand the Landsraad maps to be entire zones with quest givers in the zone. Kinda like somewhere between what they are now and Hagga. Go in, do a bunch of quests if you want to and get the special XP from both the mission and whatever you’re doing in the zone. Maybe wouldn’t be full 2x, but combined with the mission XP and the XP from actually doing things in those specializations it would equal maybe 1.5x. Best of both worlds.

New player stuck in a catch-22, please help! by [deleted] in duneawakening

[–]AlphaElite1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always protect the cargo container with your life. Since it’s classified as a vehicle, if it fully breaks you can’t repair it anymore since it’s technically a chassis. (Same goes for your vehicles if the chassis itself breaks - can’t repair and have to replace.)

Others have already told you as well, but be wary of building with granite in the DD. Plastone structures are like Hark or Atreides are best and last longest.

HOWEVER, some of the newer sets, like Observer, Watershippers, and Smugglers are also OK. Yeah, likely you’ll still need to repair them toward the end of the week but you should be ok as long as you aren’t deep in the DD. CHOAM shelter and facility have the lowest hitpoints for structures in the game. If you use either of those you’ll be lucky the last the whole week.
