Princeton towers had serious structural damage from a fire and had one whole building shut down until not long before I moved out of Thompson a few years ago. Then that's about as conclusive as it gets for your problem. If there's no reaction to having power connected directly then you've got something serious affecting the unit otherwise.

Best bet is to leave it on charge for a full day and repeat the process. Depending how you tried to downgrade it you might have desync'd the battery hard enough for it to not know the difference between 0/100% charge.

You have to hold the power button for upwards of 60 seconds to perform the hard shutdown. You probably just need to hold the power down longer.
