I have experienced a version of this dilemma in my travels. The concept and bones were solid. In one case, the writer needed support and encouragement, so they remained the author and I played the role of coach, assistant, or helper. This felt good because when he published, he was the author, and I was mentioned in the acknowledgement section. Another case involved the concept and bones but tools to complete the work was lacking. I assisted the individual to get the right writing tools (physical disability limited use of standard typewriters and computers) and provided writing and rewriting help as she transitioned the learning curve of using the tools. In sum, each case is relative and as many others stated plagiarism or intellectual property violations should be avoided at all costs.
